Not worth posting anything negative really about him today, wasn't the easiest to come onto and was more about defending than attacking. Tbh not that dissimilar to the Spurs game when he came on....

Looked really poor. I honestly think Glen Murray would be a better squad option than him at the moment. He can't do anything right nowadays, looked a bit slimmer but that's about it. We may well have to call time on this purchase.
How about the fact that he scored in every game he came on so far?

Excuses, he hardly moved. He won one header and made a clearance, otherwise was awful. He doesn't deserve to be in this 11.

He is one of the tallest players in our team but does anyone actually remember the last time he won a header from goal kick or long ball? I certainly don't, he always jumps 2 seconds too early.

Started lumping balls when he came on. We simply stopped playing. Can't judge him on that.

Excuse. No need to make one and not suggesting or said he should be in the starting 11, just coming on with 10 mins left isn't easy to suggest he was awful. Clearly currently he doesn't fit the way we are now playing but equally not sure why people are queuing up to put the boot in. Hasn't he scored in the last 3 games?

Imagine being Lukaku right now, it can't be easy. The manager who brought him here and trusted him is gone, he's dropped to the bench and only comes on for 20 minutes, sees a young player doing things he can never do and score great goals. All this while having issues with his fitness and form.

No doubt. Murray is old and slow but his touch is better and in the air he is a bigger presence

He did all he could do in the circumstances. By the time of his substitution, the midfield had dropped about 10 yards into our own half. Nobody could have impressed in that situation.

It was a nothing appearance.

The Mourinho mindset is still in the players heads. Whenever Lukaku comes on, the team drops super deep and hoof everything to him.

Granted,he seems to always come on when we against it,but the players need to improve play when he's on.

He too needs to turn himself around. He is poor at the moment.

Can't be easy earning millions a year. I feel for the lad.

Actually he was better today than against Spurs. He did run about and he did clear a chance too.

I’m sure when he looks at his bank account he will cheer up.

I keep reading that we started going long when he came on. i have a few questions;

1- Does he not encourage that with his movement? If he makes the same runs Rashford makes, why would his team mates want to change tactics on their own?

2- Say we did go long as a tactic, Are peoples expectations of him so little that he is excused of being able to head the ball to a team mate?

3- A player that has a bad touch, cant hold up play, cant do knock ons with his head and doesnt run channels - this is a player whos strength the teams needs to play to?

It's difficult to judge his performance when he comes on for the last 20 minutes.
I'm sure when he starts or comes on early like against Newcastle he'll contribute.
He's not the most technical player by any standard, but he will score goals over the course of a season if he's in form.
Hopefully his head doesn't drop with him being on the bench.

Did a good clearance but it was the usual. Needs to be pressing more. He should have loads of energy when he comes on but he just didn’t offer much more than that clearance. I don’t think it’s lacking confidence. I just think he hasn’t snapped out of Mourinho tactics. Should have been busting a gut when he came on. As it is, he hasn’t made a case to start the next game Imho.

I'm a huge critic, I think he is literally awful as a footballer. But you can't blame him in that game.

What good can he do when his team are hoofing long balls up to him while he's getting marked by two defenders? If he some how manages to take an impossible ball down head height and control it, one of the two defenders will wrestle him while the other takes the ball off him.

You could also argue that if they played the ball low and hard to his feet up top, he would just feck it up with his first touch and lose possession either way, though.

we need to win games before lukaku comes on.

Because it isn't like he came of the bench to break the deadlock less than 2 weeks ago.

It is amazing how eager some people are to tear this lad apart. He was on for a few minutes to press the defenders when our lads tired.

Every forum needs a dog to kick, Fellaini, Lindelof and Pogs get a temporary reprieve until we lose a game but until then, it's Rom even though he's scored in 3/4 from the bench. Might not be the answer at the mo but he'll have a part to play. He has his limitations but play to his strengths and he'll score goals.

Accept what? He will keep fighting and working hard to get back into the first eleven like everyone else.

Do people think Romelu is just going to sit there and say “ok, I’ll just be a bench player” after working so hard to reach United in the first place.

Why would he accept it? If Rashford hits poor form while Lukaku is in good form then he can get his place back.

Beyond that, Solskjaer isn't the permanent manager. So even if Solskjaer decides that Rashford will start ahead of Lukaku no matter what, a new permanent manager might see it differently.
Has no business to start over Rashford whoever the manager. We should get rid as fast as we can cause his value will go down with time.

How about the fact that he scored in every game he came on so far?
How about the fact that most of the goals he scored with us were meaningless and indecisive ? He scored mostly when we were leading already. If he was more clinical Mourinho might still have his job.

Very good cameo this time, more please.

Showed hunger, chasing the balls even if the chances is low, hassle defenders constantly, and oh he sprint and sprint alright, clear difference when he run hungrily or just lazy jog. Dropped deep to help defence many times and he bring a fairly good effort in post play at the right wing side as the team is struggling this time second half.

Doesn't matter if he don't score, this is the minimum he can and should do every time, the goals will come, he's just that talented in getting goals.

Yes he seems to get it right this time. Ran and blocked and hassled the opposing players.

If he can fit in and play a part under OGS it's a bonus as I think a lot of United fans had kind of given up on him, his contributions in the big games were minimal at best under Mourinho. He is going to be behind Rashford and Martial for a starting place, possibly Sanchez as well if he attains full fitness and starts playing to his best in the next few months.
It really is strange to think that Mourinho couldn't see past Lukaku and Martial and Rashford both largely struggled under him, his comments like "you ask Lukaku, Lukaku, why always Lukaku - you see why now", when he had given the other two a run out and basically suggested both were no use seem laughable now.

Last season Martial used to come on with 10/15 mins left and tear up teams.

So much protection for Lukaku perfomances!

Hindsight is an exact science....

Think he'll stay next season because of a potential change in manager again, but if Ole stays i could see him wanting to leave.he doesn't strike me as the type to want to be anything but playing every game, which hes not good enough for here.

With what I've seen so far under Ole's reign, he's a bit of a square peg in a round hole, doesn't have the pace off the mark to trouble defenders, his hold up play is lacking in technique, and some of his passing is poor. I was slated recently for suggesting that Arnoutovic would be a better fit in this team than Lukaku, in fact saying Lukaku was twice the player that Arnoutevic is, but Arnoutovic appears to be quicker, has better control, technique and can finish with either foot. He also can play centrally, left or right, and also sets up other team mates who are in better positions. The only thing that I believe Lukaku is better at would be his heading ability, but as we're set up to attack quickly, and on the counter, this would not necessarily be a must.

Wish no personal travails on him of course, but his two game absence last month was one of the best things that happened for our season. Things could have been so different otherwise.

We need to stop making him play with his back towards goal. Lukaku was never such a player.

Puzzling to see why we are reverting back to hoofing the ball to him to hold up play.

This is said so many times but you've got to realise half or more than half the reason is down to the player's own game intelligence in terms of movement, recognition of space, touch, ability etc.

I'm sure it might be with tactics too i.e maybe OGS tells him 'occupy the centre backs and keep them on the back foot' but all strikers have to play with their back towards the goal. They are the furthest player up the pitch and naturally become the focal point for most of the attacking interplay. We can't absolve him of this responsibility simply because he's bad at it. He can still make off the shoulder runs and drop (play a pass then move on) etc but he's happy to stay there due to insert reasons here.

The difference between a hoof ball and a through ball is sometimes when the player playing the ball recognises the attacker making the run AND whether the attacker gives that option in the first place. And in Lukaku's place, he's happy for the whole team to move up to his neck before offering an outlet.

Lukaku isn't a target man for sure. But even when he is running in behind his dribbling is poor. He over does it and loses control. His touch is very limited. That Rashford goal against Spurs he would never have scored. A striker like Aguero turns a bad pass into a good one. Lukaku does the opposite. Aguero for his size is also more of a nuisance. Lukaku will score goals but he has goal droughts. United never should've signed him. I still believe we can recoup our fee is Woodward doesn't act like a buffoon. Higuain is older and was purchased with minimum resale value by Juve. Morata is another bad deal. The only issue with getting rid of Lukaku is Woodward will have to sign a striker alongside a RW, CM, Fullback and a CB in the summer. I'd be surprised if he can deliver 3 players.

So Woodward hasn't signed more than two players before?

I'm getting excited at the thought of Real Madrid buying him, I hope it happens
