Match day thread was embarrassing.
A 10 for me just to give him his due. Coulda, shoulda had 4. But Pogba and Moss decided to leave him on 2.

Strong performance, 2 well taken goals. Clipped the ball well towards the end, beat Mee, rounded Hart and had Mee barge into him to deny the hattrick.

Didn't know what's more funny - caf posters saying "no excuse he'll never be a world class striker" or the ref missing a blatant stonewall penalty.

Really tough performance to rate. He led the line well, grabbed two goals although on a plate (header was nice to be fair). On the flipside some of his decision making wasn't great and his finishing is atrocious, which can cost us when not playing a blunt Burnley, as we've seen.

Lukaku has won us the game and at the same time risked losing it for us. If he was as prolific as Van Persie was in 2012-13 he'd probably be leading the race for the golden boot right now. Can't criticise him too much because ultimately he's been the match winner but if he makes it 3-0 that last 10-15 minutes is much less edgy.

Mixed feelings. He got the goals that won the game but they were on a plate for him. Fluffed far too many chances where he had time to think, as has been the case this season so far.

Wasteful asual. Got all the attritubes to be the best striker in the world but his finishing let's him down. Just makes the wrong decisions when on goal. The first 1v1 in first half should have hit it low through keepers legs instead of dinking. Second 1v1second half should have dinked the keeper instead of hitting it low. Third 1v1 second half pointless step overs instead should have rounded the keeper.

He simply is not good enough. I do not know why gets the MOTM? For a player who has missed so many chances how can he be the MOTM?

Not saying Lukaku is world class but you obviously don't watch enough football to realise that most top strikers miss easy chances.

I thought he was awful.

Two easy finishes, and countless misses that were put on a plate for him. It was bouncing off him in the first half and he only looked decent in the second because he has top pace and had loads of space. I still think he's a bit lazy, or at the very least not sharp or busy enough. He's not good enough for a top level club.

Was very good today. Clear that the incentive of a hat-trick really spurred him in that second half, and I’ve love it if he played as aggressively as that all the time.

Brilliant match from him which could have been even better if he had a bit of luck with the ref and the finishing. Should have had Mee sent off twice by the end. Made a lot of really good first time lay offs to Lingard and Sanchez today which is probably the one thing he is criticized for most. Should have had a few more goals, but even still a brace is nothing to complain about.

He had a terrific game, destroyed their CB's. People worry too much about numbers. I prefer this Lukaku, missing chances but affecting every part of the game to the stationary, passive good finishing version.

Imagine scoring 2 goals but still solidifying the fact you aren't a top striker. Could have had 3-4 today and probably 6 for the season so far with the chances he's had.

Got us the 3 points today though so whatever...

Am not sure how to rate him today. Great performance in terms of pace and power. Defenders were bouncing off of him. But didn't finish the chances. Still would give him a 8/10.

He's wasting chances like there's no tommorow
2against Spurs
now 2 against Burnley

edit:
make that 3

I agree with that. Too often he’s standing waiting for things to drop rather than making the moves to be where the ball is going to drop. Doesn’t make enough runs across and into the 6 yard box.

He's missed an absolute sitter in all 4 games so far. The types that are inexcusable. Nobody is perfect, but he's been missing far too many chances. Could have had 4 today and his misses costed us in the last few games.

Anyway, overall was much better today I thought and played with aggression.

Great game, could have had a hat trick so easily. More than his goals, I love his workrate.
He misses easy chances way alarmingly too often

Don't know why he's getting criticism for not converting his 3rd when that was a clear penalty. He showed incredible speed to get ahead of the defender, pulled a beautiful 'Ronaldo' style step-over to round the keeper and then was clearly obstructed.

Good and bad, but much better! The goals aren’t always the most telling thing, but today he wanted the ball more and tried to find room instead of standing absolutely still like he often does. Two good goals, the first being a typical Lukaku-goal and the second happening because he keeps sniffing about after the first chance is gone. Also much more interested when he didn’t have the ball, ref. point above - which is needed to create space for other players.

Good game, his best in a very long while.

His linkup play was fine today. The only fault you can have with that performance is the one on one towards the end - even then a smaller player is probably getting a decision there. Hart made a good save for his other opportunities. Had some very good crossfield passes.

The problem is if he has to do much work for the goal himself while on the ball, it doesn't go well. I don't think it's 'moaning' to point that out, after multiple instances in this game and more in the last two.

You avoid that obstruction by firing into the net when alone on goal though, I guess that’s the point. You either go right or fire, don’t give the defender a chance to catch you by stopping and going the opposite way of the ball’s path

He was superb today, a constant menace.

All top strikers miss chances and scores goals. I want him missing more, as it means we are creating them.

Feels strange saying it when he scored two goals but he was terrible, even without the countless misses. He just doesn't move. He makes no runs, he never offers options other than dropping deep, and he is never in the box in time for quick passes. Every time anyone has the ball running at the defence he is there just stood still in front of the defender marking him.

Tell me that isn't referring to the chance where he did round the keeper before being fouled? I mean surely you're not trying to criticise him for not doing something we literally all just watched him do?

You're reaching a bit here, if he doesn't feel he has the angle then he's within his rights not to get fouled

I dont know how a Monday night type of analysis on this hasn't been done on him. I see it all the time.

Yes he was strong and held up play well but RVP, RVN, Chicarito, Rooney etc would have had 5 goals at least from the chances today.

I just can’t wrap my head around arguments like this. So utterly pointless. A player from 10 years ago may have scored a chance today? What the feck is the point of saying this? Bar peak Rooney, none of them are even close to strong or fast enough to get half the chances Lukaku does in the first place. It’s not fecking Fifa on Playstation where you can just replace one attribute on a player.

Ruud would be awful in this side because he’d get no service. Same for Chicharito. Rooney was not the clinical finisher that he’s been made out to be in absentia, either.

Might be ok against Burnley but didn't go very well against Spurs.
