Predatory in the box tonight but thought his overall play wasn't his best; his touch and hold up was lacking at times. Still, what a start to his United career. Scoring for fun and long may it last.
I thought he was excellent all around in the first half, and really showed that he's about much more than just the goals. In the second half, he turned off a bit.

Dont remember the name of the poster who claimed Lukaku is a poor footballer. But my advice to the guy is to watch again the pass Lukaku made to Martial before he scored his 1st goal. Poor footballers don't make passes like that.

That was a very Pogba-esque pass. Reminded me of Pogba's pass to Rashford in Mikhi goal against Anderlecht last season.

Excellent combination between him and Martial.

Lukaku isn't the most skillful on the ball. His stepover is a proof of that, his poor first touch that overran the ball is another. He's a goalscorer and a very good protector of the ball to bring others but he lacks finesse.

All I'm saying is he's not a poor footballer. He lacks finesse, sure, but he's not some wood who just knocks goals from close.

His hold-up play seems to be improving all the time. There was a chest control near the end that Fellaini would be proud of. That’s the most exciting thing about him. Banging in a goal a game but still very much a work in a progress and joining United seems to have triggered a burning desire to constantly work on his game. Great stuff.

Beast of a striker, very impressed with his pass leading to the first goal..quite some distance with his right foot also.

Just hope he stays fit for the whole season because he could be the difference finishing 2nd or 1st.

Shame he never got a hattrick but there keeper was on good form even though he conceded 4.

Minus any potential League cup games, we have 20 games left this Calendar year. He should hit at least 20 goals in all comps by end of December.

curious to see if he can keep up his goal a game numbers.

I couldn't really care less if he doesn't have the best first touch, or is the most skillful.

He puts the ball in the net. 10 goals in 9, with an assist as well. He is the perfect partner to Martial/Rashford.

It's not like like he lacks finesse in general though, that touch when Martial fizzed a ball into him which led to his volley and Akinfeev's reflex save was delicious. For me, it's more when he has a bit of space he overruns the ball, it's like he's thinking about what to do and forgets the ball is at his feet.

Let's just say it's a bit unpredictable his touch. He can do interesting things just as he can make us laugh.

Morata is way more intelligent with great pace he said
@Jagga7

Stop discussing Morata in here. There is a separate Morata performances thread as well as a Morata v Lukaku thread. Use those.

Been fantastic so far and the one thing I criticized him for so much at Everton was his work-rate but I thought he did that superbly, especially near the end of the game where he was near the corner flag and won a free-kick for us.

The only thing right now to prove to everyone is can he do it in the big games against the top 6, but I think with the supply we give him he'll be well able to perform.

He looks like he needed this big move to get himself going and I have been very happy so far, first touch or not couldn't care as long as he's banging in the goals for us

He uses his strength and height excellently and without clambering all over the defenders. And it's nice to have someone good at heading again!

Aside from obviously scoring, there is some of the stuff he does which also impresses me. Some of his hold up today was great. But his right footed pass to Martial before racing into the box to score was great.
Also expecting the defender to miss it for his second, made me smile. (that is defo not a goal last season lol).

Hes only 24 as well which means we should see him get better and better under us.

I don't often agree with Steve McManaman, but he hit the nail on the head when he said Lukaku can make any average cross into a decent cross, as evidenced by his two goals today.

Actually that desire to improve himself has been there for quite a while, I think. I watch quite a lot of Everton and I thought he was improving year on year with them, his general play in particular. He came across as someone who worked hard at improving the weaker aspects of his game. That trend has just continued here, though that's rather impressive itself given one might have expected him to take time to adapt to new surroundings.

That header was mad, basically off the back of his head but still with power, great precision.

Pretty damn impressive that we're not even out of September yet and he already has 10 goals this season.

Both are brilliant players doing very well.

Kane has won the golden boot for the last two seasons, so it's understandable. It's not some English conspiracy.

Never said that, what I meant was that Kane gets all the plaudits because he is English and Lukaku isn't. He narrowly beat Lukaku to the golden boot last year. Doesn't mean much. Cech beat De Gea to the golden glove in Van Gaals last season by one more clean sheet so it doesn't mean too much.

Lukaku and Kane are both very good players. I wasn't knocking Kane, I was just saying why he gets all the plaudits and Lukaku doesn't.

Rom is almost Hernandez/RVN/Vardy crazy 3 some love child runs as hard as Vardy always on the right spot and scores all sorts of goals.

I would say he is better than RVN in this form with more pace and strength BUT lets see if he can stay consistent all season.

He is certainly better with the ball than he was made out to be and he has quick feet for his size that touch to set the volly was not the work of a poor player at pace.

It feels like he's already scored more headed goals this season than we did all of last season. It's probably not true but it has to close.

His passing today was possibly the best it's been all season, and it'd hardly been bad up till now - that ball through for Martial before the first goal was perfect, followed it up with a great run and finish too.

Slightly surreal that but for a missed penalty he would have scored in his first 9 games for the club. So many players go to big clubs and just can't get settled in and then we have this guy who is playing like he has been here for ages

The guy has been an absolute beast since joining us. His hold up and link up play in the first half was fantastic to watch. Second half he's wasnt at his best, but still had a couple of chances. If Mikhi and Martial stayed till the end, he might have had his hattrick. Amazing start to his career at United, hope it continues.

What I like about him is his confidence. He might have missed a sitter and might be having a bad game, but he keeps trying harder and demands to get the ball. Doesn't go into hiding. Him and Matic have been pretty much perfect signings for us.

There's no way he was on this level at Everton. His passing, run into channel, hold up play, and little flick here and there are very good. He'd cost at least another 50k more, if he had shown all of those at Everton.

The true test for likes of Kane, Morata and Lukaku will be how they all fare in the latter stages of CL, or in big league games and international football. All three are very talented, first two more technically gifted but Lukaku has more power.

Mentality and effectivess in big stages will be the differentiating factor but right now just please to have a young goalscorer at his peak who can stretch sides and the most wonderful thing about him so far is that he has carried the side at times and we haven't been that free flowing in attack and he still looks dangerous.. he's not overreliant on service, he himself makes the attack look more penetrative. Think if we somehow managed to get Rash and Martial either side of him and it clicked - would be scary.

He's been the difference compared to our last season. A clinical striker who is hungry for goals.

I think we could've stretched to that.
