Have been one of Lukaku’s biggest critics based on his general ineptitude this season, but he’s been incredible so far at this tournament, and it’s clear Mourinho’s killing him, in the same way he is Rashford, Shaw, Martial etc - it’s at a point where it makes infinitely more sense to just replace the (mis)manager with someone who can play the football that’ll get the best out of them than lose or misuse them.

He has got better as a player yet Mourinho is killing him?

I really can't understand how anyone could have watched him play this season and watched him before that and come to the conclusion that he hasn't improved.
The people who matter believe he improved. That includes Thierry Henry, people at Manchester United (including "the killer" Mourinho) and his Belgian teammates.

I definitely think Mourinho isn't getting the best out of some of our players and needs to buy the right players in the right players to allow players like Lukaku to replicate his Belgium form for United. He can't watch this world cup and see Lukaku performing like this and then fail to address wide areas ie another fullback and winger. We have all the resources to be able to buy players like the ones Belgium has and get them to play to Lukaku's strengths. I hate that we use him as a target man and just pump aimless balls into the box with 2 central defenders on him waiting to clear the ball. He has all the capability to score goals at the same rate Ronaldo has been doing for years and he's shown that for Belgium. 23 goals in the last 20 games.

If Kane would've won some shite in the last few years and dragged his team to those results, that would've put him half a level before Lukaku. Atm, both are easily overrated strikers that haven't accomplished shite in the game. I would say they're kind of equal, but hey, Kane is English and it;s impossible for this forum to think level when speaking about their beloved English players
I am one of Lukaku's biggest supporters and advocates, but it is not contentious for people to claim that Harry Kane is "better" than Lukaku. It certainly isn't because of any English bias on this forum (users come from all over the world). People make that assertion based on objective striker statistics, which would indicate that Harry Kane is better than Lukaku.

I don't think both are vastly over-rated. If anything I think both are under-rated. Kane plays for Spurs. He has never played for a big club so expectations are not the same for trophy accumulation as they would be if he made a big move. Lukaku has only played one season at a big club (Chelsea aside) so trophies will come with time.

Good game from Lukaku today.
I read that he is the first player to score 2 goals in consecutive matches in a World Cup since Maradona in 86.
40 goals in 71 matches for Belgium now.

:nono: Lukaku is a donkey with no first touch and we'll never win the league with him as our striker.

inb4 @Lukaku's first touch
The sad thing is, many rivals mock us for having Lukaku. The top rated comment on the daily mail in match report was one making fun of Lukaku's first touch. People fixate on stuff like that out of bitterness and to put people like Lukaku down.

The reality is he is an excellent, intelligent and ever-improving striker and we (United) are lucky to have him. So is Belgium. If he stays healthy and Belgium go deep then he has a true shot at the golden boot.

It's alright. Chelsea and Arsenal fans mocked him while having 3rd tier strikers like Lacazette and Morata.

Spurs fans never needed to mock him because they were admiring their own striker instead of making fun of others out of jealousy and bitterness. City fans have already felt the wrath of Lukaku so give him the respect he deserves.

Funny how you randomly threw in this useless crock Shaw into these bollocks.

Ah sorry....you said " that's peculiar"..... I presumed you were unaware of the situation I was referring to

Nah, I thought it was peculiar you wanted Lukaku to save himself for the WC ;) As a United fan I’m thinking club > country

Lukaku is a different player to the one we signed. He is the finished article.

All credit to the player and to Mourinho for working with him and keeping faith.

With the changes being made in midfield, he will take us to the title.

Not with Young and Valencia as FBs. Man can only do so much.

I don't agree with this at all.
Lukaku has had 5 shots in two games for Belgium, he's not exactly having chances laid on a plate for him
He's also more involved for us IMO, he's not dropping deep and being the reference point for Belgium that he is for us.
This post also screams I'm wrong about Lukaku but I'll parlay my criticisms onto another agenda so I'm kind of right anyway.

I really like him. Him and De Gea are the most likable players in our squad for me. He's so likable on and off the pitch. Has his shortcomings but still a top striker and has a great will to improve.

We're not using him to his full potential yet due to our rubbish delivery. We need to find a solution for this.

You are too optimistic if you think some people watch football of other clubs. I even doubt they watch the same game going through match day thread and post match...:nervous:

He's improved by an incredible amount this season, silly to claim otherwise. I give Thierry's influence all the credit. :wenger:

Except that Henry (Belgium assistant manager) has stated explicitly that Lukaku has improved his game since joining Manchester United.

Womp womp.
Aye. It’s obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes that he’s improved massively since joining us. His all round game is on another level.

Read some reports that he has ligament damage in his foot after the last game?

Always terrifies me when you hear “ligament”.

Anyone else hear anything?

I'm from Belgium and speak dutch. He should be okay according to the interviews after the game. They'll analyze it tomorrow. Martinez probably will rest some players.

I don't post often on here, but I'm proud. The team is better than in 2016.

Lukaku has improved significantly this last year. Beast.

Yeah I remember when he signed had a Liverpool supporting mate was saying he can’t “trap the ball” it just sounded like the usual media garbage that’s repeated. He’s a goal scoring machine and his all around game has evolved and he’s an intelligent hard working player. He’s getting hated for being the things people said he wasn’t.

Since 23/6/2017:

Lukaku 17
Messi 6
Neymar 4
Griezmann 5
Müller 1
Sanchez 1
Sane 0
Sterling 0
Icardi 0
Aubameyang 0

I always said that as long as you create chances, he will score. He is actually anvery complete striker and if we fix our attacking play next season he will flourish

Maybe those greedy gits should concentrate more on supplying the genuinely class striker in the team?

Seeing as his first season under Mourinho ended with him scoring the most goals he’s ever scored in club football, followed by looking a much improved player for his country (an improvement commented on by the Belgian manager) perhaps the real issue here is your dislike of the manager making you criticise Lukaku far more harshly than his performances deserved?

Thanks for that. I’m also enjoying watching them play.

Belgium was probably just not ready in 2014, but are looking the business now.

Good luck!

Very glad to see him doing well.

Hopefully he keeps it up. I was never a big fan of his, but that article of his recently on the players' tribune and his strive for improvement has won me over.

:lol: Why are Spurs fans so salty, he is praising the greatest striker for Belgium, hilariously precious.

Feck me. The Twitter Spurs fans are almost as unbearable and as some of those on here.

Their last trophy was a League Cup in 2007/2008...

Their last trophy before that - a League Cup in 98/99.

In 26 years they've won 2 League Cups.
