Could we play a Ferguson 4-4-2 and have him as a right forward with Sanchez as a left forward.

He looks good on the right so he could then drift there whenever he has the chance.

Something like:
De Gea
Valencia cb cb Young
Lingard/Mata Matic Pogba Martial
Lukaku Sanchez

Used it in FIFA, doesn't work

Did brilliantly for the goal, but he could really do with better service at times. Sure, his overall play isn't always up to standard but he keeps banging them in. If we could improve the supply to him his figures could be scary

Did very well for his goal and still hitting better crosses in from the right than anyone else.

Sorry his goal was hit and hope and in the end was deflected in, I'm not having this composed finish talk

Still the most important thing is not how he scored but that he did score, again and continuing to end the season strongly

He's starting to show his real passion, perhaps finally settling in. Early season he showed a lot of frustration signs understandably the pressure is big playing as our striker.

 Love it!

Hes showed his passion from day one. Go take a look on his reaction at Southampton when the ref blew the whistle for full time back in September. Hes given his all from day 1 and got no love

How was it not? Someone else may well have just whacked it at the first opportunity and straight at a defender... Which wouldn't have been surprising in this game where we generally lacked composure.

Well-taken goal, took his time to think about it and placed it well.

Completely agree with this. He waited and waited for an opening, it didn't come, so hit and hope.

I'd just about be able to believe Messi could see a split second opening through 5 players, and use it. But sorry, not Rom.

Happy at the end result ofc!

No, Zlatan or even Rooney would have hit it the first time. Give him the credit he deserves. Far more important in our win today.

I love watching him celebrate. Really gets my going as a fan. Must be the most emotive player we’ve had for a while.

Fantastic mentality and work rate. How can you not like him?

Wasn't really in the game but popped up with a goal, and the few times he did get on it he had some decent link up (like for right before his goal before Sanchez's shot that hit the bar). Great composure for the goal though. First half was annoying as feck how we kept trying to be so intricate and play everything right through the middle and basically didn't give him a chance at all. 2nd half he got more in the game with us actually playing with width.

He is working hard out there and playing with pride , well done to him so far.

Lukaku bleeds red

Absolutely love the passion he plays with for the badge on the front

Good goal. His link up play with back to goal though is frankly horrendous at times.

I think it's hard for him to find his role in the team and likewise hard for others to play with him.

As a midfielder, ideally you only want 3-4 things from your striker.

1) Hold up play whether that's to feet or in the air.
2) Running into space i.e channel or on shoulder of the defender.
3) Making purposeful runs into the box.
4) Score goals.

He does a mixture of these but it's all very inconsistent, which is much like the team.

There was one instance in the 2nd half, Pogba had a shot and he had a go at him for not passing; in reality he wasn't really in any space or had any movement to receive it. Lukaku's game maturity is more like 'just do everything you can to get me the ball', which is basically try to force feed him. That's not wrong but your other players, who are more technical and prefer using general footballing intelligence make passes based on reading their team mates' movements. That's also not wrong but one yields a foundation to do something consistently because duh it's logical to play the game reading patterns and flows, whilst the other is just individuality.

Love it. LOVE IT.

He absolutely is up for it as well and I think he can emerge as a real leader going forward. Can see him becoming captain in the next few years. His goal was total class (bit of a skanky handball in there but we'll allow it) and he worked his balls off for the team all night (all season). He will grow to be some player for us and I will enjoy watching every minute of it.

Has had a very good debut season, made big strides in recent weeks too. A big European goal would be great for him now, like a winner versus Sevilla.

Got my MOTM last night, I’m enjoying his passion and will to win and I love seeing those celebrations, looks like he really means it.

Good stuff from him since the end of January. I'm really warming to him and I hope he reaches 30 goals.

His goal scoring is one thing but he’s really started to impress me with his all round play, he’s working hard and starting to link up play and chipping in with assists.

Considering we don’t exactly calve 5-6 chances a game he’s done really well, he’s feeding on scraps for the majority of games.

You should be called overcriticalanalysis. :p

He does all those things you mention. Can he do better? Yes, every player can. But his improvement over the course of the season has shown he’s not one to rest on his laurels.

We haven't been playing to his strengths but lately he's been given the ball to feet more which is allowing him to use his physical attributes to good effect.
His last 4 goals show this

The average he is going at, 35 is a possibility. I have been defending him on every social media outlet I can because I know he is the best we could have bought in the summer. He has so much to improve but his attitude, determination, passion and the desire to win is what makes him better than players with more ability than him. Being mentally stronger than anyone on the pitch can help him go places and he is not just living a dream, but actually justifying his critics why he was brought in. Wish Martial, Pogba had his kind of mental toughness because they would have ripping apart the league with their abilities and Lukaku's mental toughness.

Regarding his goal, it's hardly hit and hope. He had the ball on his feet for 6-7 seconds with 4-5 bodies in front of him in a tight area. Not many strikers would have waited as long as he did. Yes the goal was deflected but there was no space for it to go in without touching anyone else. Definitely not hit and hope like some of his critics are saying here.
