Rojo's dangerous tackles.

I don't want to derail the thread and I'm not understating the severity of Rojo's challenges or defending him, I'm just purely saying that he ain't the only one who has a rash challenge in him. I think you'll find that most leg breaks and serious knee injuries weren't caused by two-footed lunges. Scholes used to scythe people down all the time and some of his challenges were reckless and potentially dangerous.

Not trying to be argumentative but genuinely curious - how many times did Scholes injure an opposition player directly through a foul tackle in his career?

Isn’t Rojo the same guy who tweeted a picture of some overdone toast? Clearly he overdoes everything.

And how much does it matter that the refs all believe he's "due" for 6 games off for the 2 tackles (they missed) plus all the publicity he got on TV last week for grabbing a handful of shirt (alla Smalling) in the area, that was also "missed"?
My money is on a retribution-red by the next ref who gets half a chance.
Can't bench him though we need his grit if not his 2 footed-tackles.

Yes he was, and much worse. He could have easily ended a couple of careers with some of his challenges. Let's not pretend he was just mistiming the odd slide.

We're talking about twice in two weeks with Rojo as opposed to a handful of times over a 20 year career with Scholes. Nobody could argue that Scholes wasn't a horrific tackler at times, but we're talking about Rojo playing with fire in consecutive weeks and miraculously not being sent off either time. At this point, referees will be looking for this kind of thing from him and I doubt he'll be as lucky next time it happens.

Not many, if any but that's not the point. How many times has Rojo injured a player too?? That's why they're called reckless and dangerous tackles. Players are booked or sent off because their challenges could have injured a player. Zaha was alert enough to skip over Rojo's challenge but it was still a bad challenge. Scholes went through the back of players on a regular basis.

Well if the tackles were as dangerous as you say, and were made so often then you would expect that over the course of a long career of scholes, he would have caused many injuries. In my opinion Rojo's tackles were more dangerous and shouldn't be compared with Scholes.

Why has this turned into a Scholes vs Rojo thread?? I'm not comparing Rojo's challenges with Scholes' or anybody else. The simple point I'm making is that yeah Rojo has made two rash challenges (not denying they were bad or dangerous as they were) and now all of a sudden he's some sort of thug and dirty player? People are making more of it than they need to. I guess he's an easy target seeing as so many people hate him on here.

I only used Scholes as an example as he has lunged in many times with reckless tackles during his career. And I can't believe you would say that just because he never injured anyone that you're ok with this? They were still bad tackles. That's all I'm saying. It's not that difficult to understand.

Well Rojo never injured anyone either or got red cards, so it's all good.

Should really stop this kind of "tackles".

It's just stupid and very dangerous - he should have a chat with Luke what a double leg brake means to a player/human.

He's doing a great job lately, however, I do not want to see stupid tackles like this from a United player. Thank god nothing serious has happened so far.

He has been making these tackles for a long time tbh, still remember his first Manchester derby where he made a similar tackle and ended up dislocating his own shoulder.

Referees will be looking at him very closely now. If I was Jose he wouldn't play the next game because the next even semi dangerous tackle he will 100% be sent off.

He's a ticking time bomb.

But he's done well filling in. He's a decent CB but a terrible LB and I can't believe 2 managers have played him there.

Smalling is better bit I'm happy to have Rojo as a backup. Credit to him in this makeshift back 4.

Very disappointing he didn't get sent off for such a tackle the second time in a row. I do hope the moment he does get red for such an action won't be when he's snapped a poor guy's leg in half.

Agree 100%, taking aside the tackles in questions deserved a red card and Rojo is his own worst enemy, you just know the next 50/50 challenge he is in he will be sent off ( picturing an away game, crowd booing every Rojo tackle and players overreacting after tackle).

Rojo is not underskilled. He is probably our most talented defender.

He's playing like his life depends on it. Thats what we need more of. Who cares if he's rough? Nobody said football was easy... too many primadonnas in the game these days that are afraid to jump into tackles and get tackled themselves. Rojo is a joy to watch.

I don't like the 2 footed tackles, but I love his grit and tough defending. Attackers will definitely be weary of him.
If I were an opposition fan, I'd be cursing the fact that our attacker may need to go up against Rojo. In fact, I'd be downright scared of Rojo (causing injury). So, I am just glad he is on our team.
As a biased MUFC fan: when I see our player playing hard (ie. not merely counting down the 90 minutes, as we saw so many do last season), I have to support that player. Rojo's doing a great job right now.

In addition, the incident against Palace wasn't that bad and deserved a yellow.
The tackle against Baily was worse, but few are mentioning this.

Seriously, the two tackles were analysed side by side on TV soon after ... I am as biased as any United fan but Rojo's was way more dangerous - Howard Webb was very clear in his BT analysis - two footed, off ground and therefore not in control = excessive force & serious foul play.

It was a straight red whereas the foul on Bailly was more like the Nani sending off v Real a few seasons ago. Catching someone high with one foot inadvertently because you are watching a high ball and they beat you to it. Nani's was never a red and nor was that Palace player's challenge on Bailly - yellow cards in that situation. But Rojo's tackle is a potential leg breaker and a sending off.

All players know this and he needs to cut it out of his game before someone gets seriously hurt

I agree that he does play with his heart on the sleeve. Even though I'm still undecided on him as an ongoing squad member I can not deny his passion for the club every time he steps into the pitch and I respect him for that.

I also don't mind having a defender who has more chance of injuring an opposition player rather then himself or a teammate.

It's not brave to jump in with two feet like he does, it's the opposite.
