Roger Federer

Some old school video in good quality. A clutch performance from Fed when he just won Wimbey.

magic..pure magic... probabaly the best sportsman out there ATM..atleast in the last year... some of the tennis hes played this last year has been absolutely brilliant... iv watched alot of sampras and agassi, but this guy if he can sustain it could match sampras's tally of grandslams...and maybe even surpass it..
Everything about him is right.. huge forhand, good backhand, wonderful passing shot, hits winners from the back of the court, can change the pace of the rallies, good volley etc .. the only thing he can work on is his serve... the only times iv seen him look in trouble is when his serve falls flat and the opponent begins to attack his second serve... But what i also like is the way he carries himself on the pitch.. the other day on match point he got a bad decision, everyone knew it was out...but he got on with it.. dont know how one can hate the guy

Hewitt actually had a 6 or 7-1 winning record against Federer before this year. However they've played 7 or 8 times this year, and Federer has smashed him each time (I think the last two matches are the only ones where Roger hasn't won a set 6-0).

Federer has been my favourite non-Aussie tennis player since I first saw him years ago when he was just Martina Hingis' partner at the Hopman Cup. The pure natural talent and athleticism was there for all to see, and over the last 2 years he's shown that he could blow Sampras' record of Open titles out of the water. Simply the best all-round tennis player I've ever seen, he doesn't have a weakness.

They fecking called it.

Calling Federer as a future great is my claim to scouting fame. Like I mentioned in that old post, from the moment I saw him in the 2001 Hopman Cup where he was a relatively unknown guy partnering with Martina Hingis, he was my favourite non-Australian tennis player. The pure talent was mind-blowing even then. It took him a couple of years after that until he really started imposing himself on the tour, but he was always great to watch.

The Tennis Podcast did an hour long career review, mostly from David Law's perspective as someone who followed him closely from when he was 16. Good listen.
