Rodri | Man City player | Ballon d'Or winner

Should be looking to move on to Madrid or Barca if he wants true great status, especially once Pep goes

Well deserved, and the team that wants him so badly made a great impression throwing their toys out of the pram on the biggest night of his life.

Vinicius robbed. How is he Balon d'or winner when he's not even been the best PL player

How would Vinicius be when he wasn't voted the best player in La Liga...

Ah living vicariously through another club on the day you sacked your manager and are appointing another one. Go you!

Madrid are deserved CL winners so I don't know what that's supposed to prove to me but good try, do you think I'm gonna be angry the best team in Europe and deserved CL winners won the CL? Oh no.
You got me, really rattled my cage by you not knowing Bellingham and not Vinicius was La Liga player of the season. 2 points for you for lack of ball knowledge (thats almost as many as your club).

When was the last more underwhelming Ballon d'Or winner? Maybe Cannavaro?

Rodri was clearly City's best player in the timespan the Balon d'Or covers.
To suggest that he doesn't deserve it because British based voters gave Foden some home cooking is a weak argument.

Absolutely loved real's boycott. That is how you get a response from the whole squad after 4-0 loss to your biggest rival and then your player missing out on a deserved trophy. I bet everyone in that dressing room is charged up to prove everyone wrong in this season.

Dude lost one game last season for club and country and easily the biggest difference maker in football right now. It's not underwhelming.

Fabian Ruiz played better than him in the Euros...
Maybe, maybe not but that's not the criteria for this award, is it?
Rodri was the outstanding player for arguably the best club team in 2024 and which is a far greater sample size.
He was officially Player of the Tournament at the Euros too

Do people even watch football anymore? How is Rodri, a rock without which the mighty City start crumbling, a holding midfielder with 24 g+a in a season and the best player of the Euros is underwhelming? He's been the best player in the world for 2 seasons now.

The answer to this is frightening. Most young people only watches highlights.

Rodri is the epitome of that great quote that was orginally about Busquets; "if you watch the game you don't see Rodri. If you watch Rodri you will see the whole game". Except that you have seen him quite often anyway, smashing in a clutch goal from nowhere outside the box or driving his team forward when his attacking teammates has failed to find the space. Best player I have ever seen at City without a doubt

Again more brilliant work by City in the transfer market, there weren’t many people talking about Rodri before he moved and now he’s a ballon’dor winner

Bit of a sickener really they’re taking every possible record aren’t they, they haven’t had a winner before this

Yeah, sucks to see a City player win it. I was bigging Rodri up before he moved to City, calling him Busqets-esque, but I still didn't expect him to become this good.

Ok the contrary it's a well deserved ballon D'Or winner. Rodri is a phenomenal midfield player and he's been the best player in the world at what he does for a couple of years now. Vini as an attacked isn't Ballon D'Or level, and he doesn't do his job on the wing as well as rodri does his job in midfield. He's basically the perfect holding midfielder, combined with ridiculous consistency, clutch moments, while being a humble player who doesn't go out searching for the lime light. Gotta respect that.

Remarkably, Rodri also went 74 games - and 475 days - without experiencing defeat for club and country during the past year, with the run coming to an end in the FA Cup final against Manchester United last May.
Nice that he got to experience that defeat anyway..

That's probably debatable. @giorno @carvajal?

Vinicius is probably more important a player for Madrid than Rodri is for City no? City aren't as strong this year but Kovacic and Gundogan are able to fill in because City are a machine under Guardiola's system.

Take out Vinicius last season and whilst they had Bellingham and Rodrigo, I think they would have been severely weaker over the course of a season. I think the only slight would be consistency but considering he was vital with many impactful moments in their league and CL wins, I'd say his contributions rank equally or higher.

Both probably deserve it but I wouldn't have one over the other by much.

Mbappé could play left wing at the same level as Vinicius or generally higher over the course of their careers aside from last season. Don’t think there’s anyone who can play DM as well as Rodri in the world.

They seem to be doing just fine without him after everyone said differently. Great player but City will win the PL easily again.

No, I kind of agree with that assessment actually, on a general level, and City are hilariously worse off without Rodri, even with Gundogan back on the team. Last year the difference was really stark

The BdO ultimately, it came down to best player in UCL vs best player at Euro 2024, and they went with the Euros. Which is fair enough, though I disagree with it. Vini's run through the CL was better and he was a more decisive player than Rodri was for Spain
