I've not read any posts on here but I imagine a lot of people will feel identical to how I feel, which is that it's hard not to be excited, because it is Robin Van Persie after all, but I would have much preferred to see us go for a midfielder.

I have shared the same feeling, however I think that RvP will improve our first XI whilst I'd be happy with a CM/DM merely as a backup/squad option.

In general I'm not opposed to the club's strategy of signing players who are too good to turn down (RvP, Jones...) even though we have other good players in those positions. As opposed to signing players who somewhat fit the bill in a certain position we want.

It's gonna feel weird seeing him in a United shirt, but these are exciting times! On the one hand, interesting to see if he can gel with Rooney. On the other hand, he'll hopefully take some weight of Rooney's shoulders. If either one of them gets injured/suspended or loses form, the other can easily be paired up with Welbeck or Hernandez, and we won't get the feeling that it's a weakened strike force. Nice!

feck Hazard, Lucas Moura. They are little twinkles who have made extremely stupid career decisions. Pure short-term thinking and I hope they both suffer for it.

This guy is the real fecking deal. The signing we've all wanted since Ronnie left and I bet the players are buzzing from this news.

To be fair, Chelsea isn't a bad place to after, after Manchester United.
Aside from living in London and earning a bigger pay packet, he IS going to the CL winners. Chelsea have a good team, and with the investment they have and are continuing to put up, you can't help but feel that it's only a matter of time before City, United AND Chelsea are going to break away a bit from the rest of the league, especially if FFP isn't very successful.

Chelsea is one of Europe's current elites; they have had a great decade in terms of winning the PL, and doing well in the CL; they are one of the top teams in terms of CL quotients; they are also in the PL like us.

Of course, their team is weaker than ours at present, especially with the new players bedding in, but they are definitely one of the top 3 teams in the PL, and one of the top 6¬ teams in the world.

PSG is nowhere near.

I'm still hoping for Rafael to get #2 and for Young to give up #18 for Scholes
Young to give up #18? Why? It doesn't even matter for Scholes which number he has.

Fans care about numbers more than players do.

Remember when everyone used to talk about how lethal Ruud and Henry would be in the same team? Rooney and Van Persie is like a lesser version of that. Still a striking duo noone can match, though.

A lot of our players get accused of not doing it against big teams. Anyone know Rvps record vs the best?

Not sure if this has been posted.

I guess this guys last name must be Van Persie....

Skysports reporting that the deal must be completed by 12:00 if he is to play against Everton.

So I guess we'll see him with Fergie around then

Aye, probably at 12.20pm, at our pre-Everton press conference.

I don't think I saw this video posted yet

Nothing amazing/new, but we've got the pictures, might aswell have the video too :D

United officials driving Van Persie to a medical in an Audi.

Chevrolet will be pissed.

The quality of most (!) of his finishes is amazing... one goal is better than the next! Such a fantastic footballer, I can't believe he is signing for us!

I was just about to post this. Some absolute breathtaking finishes - most of which I had completely forgotten about.

Almost 1/3 of that video was goals from last season.

Makes you think...

My bet would be #9, considering fergie didnt mention berbatov when speaking about the strikeforce at his disposal.

This signing is another error by Fergie. It is so reminiscent of the signing of Berbatov. A superb player, but not needed by the club at the time. The arrival of Berbatov disrupted the trio of Ronaldo, Rooney, and Tévez, which had worked so well the previous season. I fear the arrival of van Persie will similarly upset the balance. It is unfair on Welbeck, whose progress has been sensational. I also struggle to see how Fergie will fit Rooney, van Persie, and Kagawa into the same team. It is also a huge fee for a 29 year old player.

Despite these concerns, I cannot help but be extremely excited because of the player's quality.

Ferguson has always said that its hard to judge whether a new buy would fit in. Berbatov was never going to disrupt self-confident players like Ronado, Rooney and Tevez. Each had their own style and its always a case of complimenting each other. Berbatov just couldn't adapt his style.

The potential arrival of PVP is certainly not unfair on Welbeck! Its Ferguson's job to pick the best team and its the players job to deliver their best performances and for Welbeck that means scoring goals, something he still needs to improve on at top level. The same could be leveled at Chicharito who too failed to deliver enough goals. But, they're both young and hopefully, will improve. Having someone of the calibre of RVP can only improve their education.

Doubt SAF would be so disrespectful plus fans would be pissed walking round in their new shirt with #9 Berbatov on the back.

I'm guessing at #32, I'll have a quid on it.

They would deserve it for buying a new berbatov shirt when hes clearly leaving
