He really is the complete package you'd want from a striker, his hold up play and overall technique is among the best in Europe IMO.

Nice start for him considering how turd he was in his last tournament.
Nice start for him considering how everybody kept talking and talking that he was so bad last tournament, while really, he wasn´t bad at all.
He just didn´t score "enough". But what's enough, we made it to the finals, that´s a brilliant team performance. You can´t complain that your striker scores too little if you win every single match up until the final, World Cup is the biggest stage of all, teams rarely get trashed so everyone can come on the scoresheet to give your striker some nice stats.
He was pretty bad considering his usually high standards, his finishing was awful at times. Again, it's a seemingly different story this year.
Best #9 in the world.

When fit I would maybe only take a fit (!!!) Aguero over him among all the strikers in the world, but that's it. Noone else!
Aguero gives you that surprise package in his immense dribbling abilities and trickery but I think van Persie just edges him in everything else.
I would take Van Persie over Aguero, but only just tbh. I think Ibra is a good shout though.

Can't believe he was being forced out last season, also can't believe Rooney makes more than him.
He is clearly one of the best strikers in the world.
I have watched many times the clip of his brilliant diving header for the Netherlands v Spain, and still not getting tired.
It is not only skill (which is top) but also a show of his gut and determination/judgment trying at a distance like that using his head. He is strong and skilful and courageous... Just amazing.

I still can't believe his first goal. How many players would risk a diving header from that position when your team is 1-0 down to the World and European champions in their opening match of the World Cup. He had all the time in the world and should have brought it down and slotted it home. It's nice to remember that we still have players like RvP, who are too good to do just normal things. Beautiful.

Only as far back as a couple of months ago the general consensus on here seemed to be that he was petulant and we should sell him so we can play Mata behind Rooney. Now the tables seem to have turned and RvP is the best thing since sliced bread again and Rooney is shit.

He was shit at the last world cup because he was coming back from a long term injury. RVP is class when fully fit.
Not a fan off Moyes, he praised RVP at start off last season and if I think he called Rooney his "side kick". During the season he always started RVP when fit. He left RVP go to holland for treatment he stayed there for quite sometime, even Van gaal mentioned this helping RVP's recovery.
Moyes wanted to play a certain style of play which RVP was not interested with, but for Rio to suggest that he become "sideshow" or unloved is a bit..exaggeration.
Well, Rio might have used the word "love", but he's almost using it as a metaphor (similar to being "treasured" or "trusted"). I think Rio was right. If a player did not feel he's "needed" by the manager (not being the main man etc), he is bound to be disappointed. Moyes treated Rooney like a VIP, which is weird.
Read again what Rio said, and I think it sums up.
"The manager, David Moyes, was talking up Wayne Rooney and forwards need to be loved. And I don't think he felt that love last season."

That 'is his injury a blessing' thread should be in the classics.
Why? He and Rooney don't play well together, lacking in dynamism. Most supporters believe Van Persie to better, and he is, but if Moyes were still in a job then things would be different. Thankfully they're not, he's gone, but getting the best out of Mata was and still is never going to happen while the other two play up top so one must step aside or play in a very different role. Under Moyes, it was always going to be Van Persie, rightly or wrongly.

RVP has all the attributes of a really great striker. I like his personality as well. Definitely one of my favourite players.

Little interesting thing i read in a dutch paper. At the age of 12 Robin was stuttering and was refered to a speech therapist by his GP. He was refusing to go until his father(Bob van Persie) told him "What if you need to speak to the press when you become a footballer?" That was enough to convince Van Persie and he went the next day to see the speech therapist for treatment. Turned out to be one of the most articulate players in football

I'm always surprised hearing stuff like this because he always comes across as an intelligent person in his interviews.
The same half who were defending Moyes to the hilt, and blaming the lack of quality in the same team that won the EPL when Moyes was the only change from the previous season.
