I love how he ran straight to the manager after scoring his goal, didn't he do that with Ferguson? He would never have done that with Moyes.

yup, he went to hug fergei.

agree that a fit robin van persie is arguably the best CF in the world. his technique is just unbelievable at times. i'll back him to play until he is 42!

Holy crap he was good. With van Gaal in charge and no Moyes stinking the place out with his negativity I can see him scoring 30+ goals again next year if he stays injury free.

Fantastic performance. We need a system next year that utilizes his ability more. He plays as strictly a 9 for us and he has much more to his game. He's the most talented striker I have seen player for us.

That is the best header i've seen in my life. The second best header ive ever seen was also scored by RvP.

The most unothadox finisher in footballing history. There's never been a striker like him before.

His CV may stop people taking in hiw good he actually is. Amazing footballer.

We can play like that. All we need is a brute of a centre back a la Stam, vidic and bruce and a defensive midfielder. Then let Nani play in the Robben role.
Hopefully now everyone should see that RVP is clearly our best No9. No more talk of Rooney or giving Wellbeck more opportunities.
RVP is without doubt world class and has proven to be the prem's best goalscorer when kept fit.

It's kind of annoying seeing him tonight. No way anyone can convince me now that he was trying last season.

And how robust has he become? Getting clattered from all angles and blasting through challenges like they weren't happening. If you accumulated some of those challenges into last season, they were worth about 10 years in the physio room for Van Persie.

Imagine if we get him and Rooney playing at this intensity next season. Jesus.

Robin van Persie's header was 17 yards, the longest headed goal measured at a World Cup since 1970.

#Bromance.

Everything about his first goal was perfect. The timing of the run, the pass, awareness of where casillas is and the connection he got on the ball.

He was world class tonight. Worked really hard for the team and took his chances well. A fully fit and motivated RVP can get is challenging for the title again. Amazing player.

Interesting that when van Persie scores an exquisite goal for his national team, United fans do nothing but shower him in praise, but when Rooney scores an exquisite goal for the club they support, many only seek to find ways to bring him down and claim poor goalkeeping or luck.

When has Rooney taken the current world champions apart? I think Rooney is a top class player, but he's not as good as Robin. And even though it was perhaps not in the best interest of morale for Scholes to come out with the comments he did, I didn't disagree

Van Persie has been in the form of his life for Holland in the last two years. Must watch video. He's cut from the same cloth as van basten

His first was just fecking incredible though wasn't it? It's one of the most beautiful headers that I've ever seen... I'll never get tired of watching it.

Yeah, the header was ridiculously good, one of the best I have ever seen. For some strange reasons, it immediately reminded me of this:

Personal vendetta - part 482

Pity he didn't put that amount of effort and passion playing in a United shirt last season. Still new season new manager, clean slate and all that.

What a header, definitely one of the best I saw, every part of the execution was perfect.

Effort and passion won't bring you far without a well-functioning system. Actually at the highest level it won't bring you anywhere without a well-functioning system.

I think it might be the best I've ever seen. I can't think of any that match it for skill and athleticism.

So glad I woke up for his match this morning. That first goal is the definition of a classic World Cup header. Hopefully he brings that smile back to Old Trafford.

Interesting that when Van Persie does something brilliant your first thought is to talk about Wayne Rooney.

This is why I love the World Cup. As weird as it may sound, I just feel like if that was the PL, he would have chested it and hit it into the corner.

It was like when DiCaprio saved Jonah Hill's character in Wolf of Wall Street. He just snorted a massive line and said '&$!* it'. This was no different. I still can't get over that goal. Madness :wenger::drool:

Edit: Also, when fit, is the best centre-forward in the world after Ibrahimovic, for me. Majestic technique. Should have had 3 or 4 tonight, and was very unlucky with that right foot volley that hit the bar.

For those mentioning that he didn't try last season. Let's remind ourselves that the whole team have basically been outed for the same thing.

Moyes didn't fit and the players didn't even attempt to adapt.

Shitty when you're paying good money to see these players but sometimes it just happens.

Expect a lot different next year.

End of discussion. Effort and passion is futile talk, and those criticising solely the set up will be proven correct next season. How people can expect elite forwards to perform in the style of Victor Anichebe is beyond me. Football players at this club don't refuse to try; there is simply no reason for them to act like that. The reality is that they were ruined by coaching staff that just aren't cut out for this level. Good to see Robin in form, anyway.

Agreed.

Yes we need a well-functioning system/ strategy but we also need players with the requisite technical ability to put it into practice.
Effort and passion will be a given if the players buy into the system.
LVG apparently has all of that with his national team. I think RVP will play a vital role in convincing our present players to trust LVG.

Robin Van Persie scored the Netherlands equaliser last night, he as ever, was understated and humble about both his goal and the result.

"We told each other at half-time to keep going,"Van Persie told BBC Sport. "When we scored at 2-1, again we didn't stop and went for the third one and in my opinion in the end it could have been eight,

"It was a brilliant goal to be fair. It was a bit of a gamble but before I received the ball I saw Iker Casillas off his line. It was sort of a header but a lob. A lobbed header and a great goal."

 @ "to be fair"
