I think RVP is just relishing living his dreams atm.

He's almost had the majority of his career ruined by injuries, and when he was fully fit as last season, he was playing in side that couldn't challenge for the title. This season at United, he getting what he originally wanted from arsenal. He's a topscorer in a team challenging for the title.

Look how close the ball is to his right foot when shooting. Every part of that goal was brilliant, but I just noticed that he didn't really have much room to work with to shoot and it just seemed to just hurl a boot at the ball and yet it's still incredibly accurate.

Majestic player to watch.

That's exactly what I was thinking, the ball was really close to him and he still struck it perfectly. Great, great goal. The touches and the finish were sublime. What a player, what a goal. He deserves silverware.

Definitely having a Ronaldo-like effect. When Ronaldo was at his very, very best - I believe he scored against every team in England over the course of one season (be it in the League or a Cup, like I think his CL Final goal against Chelsea completed the full set).

Van Persie has been on a similar run for about two years now. Ever since coming back from injury in January 2010 (and still finishing second top scorer in the League I think), he has scored almost every week, regardless of opposition. Total dominance over the League.

Looking at the clip he did everything on his right foot, but is he not left footed?

First touch = Right foot.
Second touch = Left foot.
Third touch = Left foot.
Fourth touch (Shot) = Right foot.

But yes, he's left footed. Hard to tell at times though - that shot he pulled off against City that hit the framework that lead to Young's dissalowed goal was on his right.

You're right, his first and last touch were indeed on his right foot, quite remarkable when you consider he is left footed and that he showed quite an exquisite strike on his so called "weaker" foot.

He's been scoring scorchers with his right for a good few years now but for someone so with so much talent in his weaker foot he's always favoured his left an awful lot for everything else. Seemed to me in the last 18-24 months he really worked on that side of his game because I remember him being very one-footed when he first came to the league.

I assumed he was right footed but just realised he is really left footed, the fact he takes our corner from the right side proves he is predominantly left footed.

He can't be far off from being two footed.

You assumed he was right footed? Seriously? It's almost as if some people on here had never watched this guy over the past 10 years.

RvP's last 76 Premier League games: 63 goals and 26 assists.

His improved tremendously on his right in recent seasons. You're right - he was extremely one-footed when he first arrived on the scene.

I think it was it was vs. Liverpool (might have been Chelsea or actually both) where he scored a brace on his right foot. A proper scorcher too. Must've been a couple of seasons back but from then I realized his right foot is not half bad.

And he also scored this goal vs. City on the half turn with his right which was a fecking class goal (might've been the game where Adebayor ran the length of the pitch to celebrate).

EDIT:

You can tell just by watching him run with the ball that he's not truly ambidextrous. Very few players are, despite it being claimed of anyone who can dribble. But he's basically as two-footed as a one-footed player can get. He favours his left but he can still do almost anything with his right, as his many wonderful right-footed goals attest.

I think he scored a brace against Chelsea last season with his right, both great goals, and then the year before he scored another screamer with his right v Chelsea again. He still clearly feels far more comfortable on his left side but when it comes to striking it he can place it exactly where he wants it with his right. I'm absolutely certain he couldn't have hit that curling strike v Chelsea on his right three or four years ago so fair play to him for that. For me wrapping your foot around the ball and curling it exactly where you want it is by far the hardest skill to master with your weaker foot. Perhaps the fact he was so good at it already on his weaker foot meant he already knew the perfect body shape to strike it that way and it's just a case of getting the right contact but I've always found it near impossible.

I disagree with that bit actually. Speaking from experience I always found it easier to curl it with my left and I could both pass and shoot much more proficiently that way with my left as opposed to the straight hit technique which always seemed nigh on impossible to do with my left!

Definitely easier to curl it than to whack it good head on.

Some people argued, in the newbies i think, that is left foot is as good as Messi's. Does anyone agree with this?

Hmmm. But it's everything else that is connected into working the foot. That's about as technical an argument I can muster

It's incredibly difficult to tell, Messi is amazing at shooting but I think RVP is better when it comes to trapping the ball with his left foot.Messi is a dribbling genius and his passing is better than RVP.
Overall I'd go with Messi's left tbh

Thinking about it you're right, you're far more likely to see someone cut back onto his weaker foot just outside the box and place it rather than smash it into the top corner. I always found it relatively easy to just ping it with the laces into the far corner myself. When it comes to passing it's much easier to side foot it rather than ping it but I could never wrap my foot around it properly to get the right spin on it. Say you're lofting it 40 yards in behind the defence on my right I'd curl it every time but on my left it's no contest, I'm striking right through it.

Exactly two season's worth. Which makes you wonder how many league games he's missed in those two years. It can't be more than three or four.

Since January 2011 (two years) Rooney played 65 league games, scoring 43 goals and assisted a further 19.

I sometimes feel that owning the two best players in the league should be against some rule or other. Most of the other times I just grin.

Some of you plonkers not being able to tell that he's left footed

You know those in swinging corners he does every game? Or free kicks, penalties yadda yadda.

I checked, he's missed two premier league matchday squads since the start of 2011.

 you need to stay in more and watch more football, but yeah his shooting is pretty decent with his weaker foot

How could anyone have watched him play all these years and still have even 1% doubt about his stronger foot is beyond me

I have to admit, i was a little skeptical when we were linked with Van Perise at the time but wow, what a signing he has been for us and for me, he is easily the signing of the season.

He has been suberb and been our best player so far this season and is scoring goals for fun.

He is the top goalscorer with 16 goals ahead of Ba, Michu and Suarez who all have 13 goals.

His scoring stats have been pretty impressive so far this season.

League - 16 goals in the 18 games he started in and 3 sub appearances.
Champions League - 3 goals in the 3 games he started in and the 1 sub appearance.

Well yes I've always found finesse rather than force on your weaker foot more demanding to master, and for example, a lot of folk will say they strike the ball sweeter when volleying off their weaker foot. That said, the two skills I find hardest with the weaker foot is a chipped finish (or a Poborsky-style-scoop) - particularly when running at any sort of pace or with the ball moving across the body quickly - and an outside-of-the-boot pass.

Hmm the chipped finish is definitely hard - come to think of it, scoop passes are not bad to be honest but a scooped finish at pace would be. Outside of the foot isn't that bad imo but i guess it varies on the individual, it is rare to see top ambidextrous footballers use outside of the foot off either. Doing freestyle skills is also very hard with your weaker foot.
