FFS we should sign the new Firmino instead of the old one

No midfielder over the past two seasons has been directly involved in more Bundesliga goals (scored & assisted) than Roberto Firmino (44).

Roberto Firmino has executed the most through balls in the Bundesliga over the past three seasons (27). So precise.

Pretty good given he's just 23.

This guy a striker or midfielder?
Definition of a Brazilian attacking midfielder. Of course he can play as a false striker or on the wing but with that kind of creativity he needs to see what's going on before him.

Way better idea than Gaitan.

Which means that he's a great dribbler?

Would be a good piece of business if true. 18 million isn't much for a player like him.

We could transform him into a false 9 and play without a striker. Possession football at its best.

What usually happens in this situation is that we will be looking at him holding a Madrid/Bayern/Barca/PSG shirt in two weeks time.

I like him, I watched a few Hoffenheim games last season and saw his last 2 outings for Brazil and he's a quick, incisive attacker who I could see becoming a prolific goal scorer. Hard to get excited though as the Gundogan and Schneiderlin rumours started with the same type of assertion and evaporated.

And the transfer boom bust cycle begins...
True but the thing is this time we could really use a player like him, especially when we got Europe in mind.

He would be perfect against all the less known but still cunning Champions League sides when you know we can lose some points in a group stage. It's the kind of player that one of his through passes could set the match for us.

For 18 mln Euro it definitely is worth the gamble, especially that people have been rather impressed by him recently, he can play on a wing, no?

I'd take him in a heart beat. Great player.

Hoffenheim have signed up a young 20 year old Brazilian CF which could be argued is his replacement. Hoffenheim are pretty certain he's off this summer.

He's got great technique.

2. Roberto Firmino
Hoffenheim’s hard-working Brazilian forward has been the best kept secret in the Bundesliga for the past couple of years, but now, after scoring a rather outrageous “no look” goal against Chile for his national team, the hype around his talent is only likely to rise.

Firmino is in so many ways an ideal Van Gaal attacker. Not only is he a dangerous opponent in one-on-one situations – winning 56% of the 193 take-ons he has attempted in 26 appearances in the German top flight this campaign – but his defensive contributions from the front make him well-suited to the tracking back expected by United’s “total football” focussed manager.

Firmino has won 43% of his duels on average for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga this season.

So far this season, he has made 28 interceptions, 22 clearances and 58 successful tackles (from 147 attempts) while mostly playing as an attacking midfielder or wide forward. On top of that, he has scored six goals and provided seven assists from a total tally of 53 chances created.

Firmino’s defensive actions this season.

His strike against Chile also hints at a kind of self-assured arrogance under pressure that United fans adore from their players.

With Wayne Rooney likely to keep his role upfront, and Juan Mata now looking able to man the right-flank as the team’s newfangled “false right winger”, Firmino could be the ideal candidate to play as the team’s hard-pressing “shadow striker” from deep; the role played to perfection at Ajax under Van Gaal by Jari Litmanen.

Can play all across midfield and upfront apparently.

He could do the Mata job indeed but personally I would see him more in a Coutinho type of role but his technique makes him universal attacking asset anyway.

So, he's gifted on the ball AND a puts in a lot defensively? I'm sold.

When a "highlight" video of an entire season consists of two minutes of him losing the ball time and time again, it's hard to maintain your excitement.

That's strictly not true.

He's a #10 being utilised as a CF by Brazil. He's played as a Left Winger a few times by Hoffenheim, but it's not his best position by a long way.

Correct. WhoScored;
Position, Games, Goals, Assists, Rating
AMC, 27, 6, 9, 7.89
ML, 2, 0, 0, 7.2
FWL, 2, 1, 0, 7.71
MC, 1, 0, 1, 7.71
FC, 1, 0, 0, ,7.65

Lowest rating of 7.2 though

Through balls are definitely a strong point, by the looks of it.
Seems to be a lot of playing into space on the break, though.

The maker of the video has 39 subscribers. I'd try checking out some other videos of him.

Hmm.. If he's a 10/LW/ST where would he play? We've got too many 10's already, just bought a LW so that only leaves the striker position. Does he have potential to play as a real #9?
