Rio Olympics 2016

Jess hasn't set a PB in any of the events so far, can't see her matching her PB in the 800m next. Thiam has set a few PBs so far though so I think it'll be silver for Jess.

Yep, im agreeing with this but would be so happy to be proven wrong by a champion like Jess.

Ruptured elbow ligament for Thiam. Surely will effect her running, even by a tiny margin.

I'm just hoping.

Not sure it will tbh. Fingers crossed though.

Silver for GB in men's swim relay thanks to Peaty, that guy is an absolute machine.

high jump and Javelin won it for Thiam.

Just 21. She's gonna boss this for years to come.

Thiam performed so well and is only 21, congratulations to her and Belgium.

Swam a monster leg. Erased a 1.5 sec USA lead and gave the a slight headstart. But US had 4 good swimmers and it made the difference.

Absolutely. All our swimmers did us proud but like you say, the US had 4 very good swimmers and we rely on Peaty to pull us back into contention to hope that we can hold out in the lead.

Next Olympics we will be there or abouts again, we've improved vastly of late.

Phelps is basically a fish in a man's body.

Ched Evans says hello Ennis-Hill.. The nerve of this broad was too much. Go ahead, take your name with ya..

She said she'd want her name taken off the stand if Ched Evans signed for Sheffield United.

Stupid to bring it up here and now though. Stupid to bring it up at all tbh.

Are the Aussies disappointed with their swim gold medal tally?
Otoh, I don't remember the Scandis doing so well in the past. Their women been great to watch.

The girl I know set a canadian record during the 4x100 meter medley for her backstroke! Canada ended 5th even though she was first for her bit I think. Still a huge achievement even without a medal. Crazy that the one girl is 16 years old and won 2 medals already.

Inevitably gets brought up every Olympics but seeing Phelps get a 23rd Gold...there really are too many swimming events. A tally like that is only achieveable in swimming.

I suspected that Thiam would win the heptathlon after her long jump.

Another games of KJT throwing away a medal. Consistently good and then does something terrible in one event (or in this case Javelin and Shot Put this time). Should have got top three here. gutting.

Even so Phelps is miles ahead of anyone else in the all time medal count. The all time individual medal table also indicates that gymnastics is also a discipline conducive to attaining a high medal count.

There's no doubt he's amazing and one of the greatest Olympians but it still strikes me as a record that can only be attained in swimming. 16 of the USA's gold medals so far have come from swimming, Britain couldn't get that sort of figure from rowing or cycling for example. Usian Bolt will be regarded as one of the greatest sportsmen ever but it'll be tough for him to get into double figures for gold medals let alone 20+. It just seems to me there are too many medleys, relays, butterfly etc.

I do enjoy the swimming events though, it's one of my favourite parts of the games.

Oh I agree but that is why the UK needs to up its game in the pool.

There certainly seems to be something in the butterfly and freestyle having similar requirements.....I don't see many breastrokers doubling up and medalling, or even making many finals doing events that aren't their speciality.

I mean I can't quite say with certainty, but the breast always seems to be the weakest slot in the medley, and Phelps is so far off the world record, forget Peaty's, which he's 5 seconds off, but he was 3 seconds off from what the record was when he did his PB in it.

His PB's in the freestyle and backstroke, at the time of him doing them, were very close to the world record. Similar patterns with other guys.

Doesn't help that 100-200-400 is available in every event too, probably should drop the 200 in the swimming. It's so easy to double up that it's not even considered all much when people do it, unlike Usain doing it or MJ doing the 200-400, actual feats, you felt you were witnessing something great, because you were. Like, I already fully expect Peaty to transition into a 100-200 guy by Tokyo rather than the 50-100 he is now.

Won more medals after 8 days (30 to 29) then London but 4 less golds
Was always going to be hard to win more golds than London but we have been very competitive in all events which is good to see. We should probably have even more medals really, so many fourth places.
