Fair enough if you still don't like Sunny after numerous goes. All I will say is that the first season isn't really a true reflection of the show - in fact I'd say the first four seasons are basically a different show. I still really love the early seasons but they basically take the South Park route of poking fun at hot-button issues and
risque subject matter - racism, gun laws, abortion, child abuse and sex offenders, disability, Jihadism, welfare, "trannies", religion, North Korea, underage drinking and alcoholism, etc. - only without any kind of nuance or subtlety. Like I said, I enjoy the early seasons just as much as the rest of the show but there's a slight lack of respect for the subjects they're dealing with. The writing seems to approach each topic expecting the jokes to turn up by default because "lol abortion" or "lol terrorism". There are flashes of maturity in the early seasons (The Gang Gives Back, Sweet Dee's Dating a Retarded Person) but it's only by season 5/6 that the transformation is complete, where the show really starts making an effort to turn the joke squarely back on the five main characters. The jokes come not from the subject matter they're dealing with but from the gang's inability to cope with basically anything that requires a remotely sensitive touch, and they always lose out because of they're incapable of understanding even the most basic of social decencies. After season 5 the show comes at subjects like blackface, racism, homophobia, rape and sexual abuse, sexuality, weight gain, gun laws, etc. without skipping a beat when other shows just wouldn't dare touch them. It's definitely not as sharp as it used to be in terms of producing laughs every minute (although on current form, season 14 is on track to be their best season this decade) but it's a far more mature show now and has been for a long time. If you ever fancy picking it back up again I'd start from season 5 - when it makes the jump from 4:3 to 16:9 - and see how you feel. If it doesn't work for you by then, it never will, and that's fine!
