I don't like them but they have turned things around, it's a well run club nowadays.
Hiring Arteta & sticking with him has given them consistency. They were such a mess at one point but they set out a plan & followed it. Lots of clubs could learn from them. Their scouting is top drawer !!
It would not surprise me at all if they win the the league this season

Have Arsenal been in for him from the beginning or is this a knee-jerk tournament reaction?

Any chance at all to get this lad, we should take it. He is a very, very good young centre half, clearly has pedigree, he'll be one of the players to build the new azzurri.

Over Yoro? No. Over De Ligt? No. Over Martinez? No. Over Branthwaite? Only because of price.

Seems a bit injury prone. According to Transfermarkt, he’s missed anywhere between 15-30 games a season through injuries from 2020-2023. Last season was definitely better for him.

He also had a complete ACL tear of all ligaments in one knee when he was 16 I believe. That will have cost him some pace and movement.

Bologna is holding out for more cash and a sell on fee. Basel really did a smart thing here selling him with 50% sell on clause. They sold him for very cheap but knowing he would go to a higher profile league to a club that would likely sell him on. They have kinda used Bologna here a bit, but they shouldn't complain too much either. They are still making a bunch.

They did the same thing with Zirkzee, if these "smaller" clubs want to sign good young prospects for cheap (Calafiori for €4m & Zirkzee for €8.5m) then they need to accept high sell on clauses, which they gladly did, not push the selling fee up to puh that cost onto the buying club.

Either that or pay a premium for these talents to begin with like every other club has to, you can't have your cake and eat it.

Arteta really wants him at LB. The amount of money Arsenal have spent trying to sort out the left back spot with various signings. They might as well go to AC Milan and pay whatever Milan want to get Theo Hernandez out of there. Left back slot sorted for next 5 years then.

He dumped that smoking hot girlfriend of his with the insane waist to ass ratio?

Eh millionaire footballer, he won’t struggle with attractive romantic interests.

I do hope family/lovers announcing transfers like this doesn’t become a trend though

Turns out they're breaking up because someone posted a video on TikTok of Calafiore cheating on her with some chick at a cruise.

"I hate you Zubimendi! How could you do this to me? With that girl!!!! Good luck on your $50m transfer to Manchester United on a 5 year contract, here we go confirmed. Medicals scheduled for tomorrow"

"Check for STDs".

Will slide in at left back. White, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori is the perfect balance of physicality, height, strength and technical ability. Hopefully we add Merino to the midfield.

We conceded 28 league goals last year. We the aim should be to get than down this year closer to 20. Which is basically conceding 1 goal every 2 games - it can be done under this manager & the way he sets up the team.

Its undeniable now we are one of the best biggest and most physical teams in the league with ball winners and dual specialists all around the pitch. If often gets overlooked, however numerous Arsenal journalists have leaked Arteta is obsessed with players who can 'win duels'. Basically players who will win more of their fair share of individual contests, whether it be a 50/50 ball, two players contesting an aerial ball, or not allowing your man to pass you. If you have players who can do this all over the pitch, it adds up over the course of a game. Even our 'finesse' players like Odegaard, Saka, Trossard, Martinelli, Jesus are known for their pressing and work rate. Haavertz is notoriously strong in the air and is another ball winner - he sticks those long legs in the tackle. Havertz defends from the front, and also allows us to go long to bypass the other teams press. The ability to go long and retain the ball is so important, as if you lose it you just have more defending to do. Yet people make their mind up on Haavertz on the basis of his 1v1 finishing :nono:.

Attack as a unit, defend as a unit.

I kind of hope it does. More entertaining than Romano

4 CB’s in defence… Revolutionary, never been done before in the league.

I'm fairly sure Mourinho has managed it at some point

I know we had 6 defenders in one game where we tried to hold on to the lead. Actually Fergie has surely done it too. I'm gonna say between Silvestre, O'Shea and Wes Brown playing full back we've definitely had an all centre back back line.

This might be bordering on the weirdest transfer we have ever been involved in. Multiple clubs involved is never a good thing either.

Who else is involved? I was under the impression this was pretty much a done deal to Arsenal.

The last I read Roma were thinking about taking Basle to court to make sure they got some percentage of some sell on or some nonsense like that.

Havertz should be judged on more than just defending from the front. I agree with the rest of your post, though. Arteta has done well creating a side physically powerful players in both stature and intensity. Over the past two seasons Arsenal have become very comfortable at batting away the weaker sides in the league – you very much beat ‘the teams you’re expected to’. It probably is the one main thing I am envious about with your team – very rarely do you lose the physical battles or the midfield duels to random midtable sides across the league.
