Not really, no, that's why I told you to phone Sony. What cables are you using again?

I'm out of warrenty...i have the launch model(found that out when i rang them)

Tried using the HDMI cables and the standard Ps3 cables....still no audio

trying on various LCD tv's has lead me to believe that my ps3 for some reason ain't outputting audio whatsover.

Can still play games but unless i blare some music while doing that its farely rubbish really

Right, I think that your settings are fecked. Get out the RCA cables that came in the box. Link them to some sound producing kit. Go to audio setings and tell it that the sound is going out that way. Then come back.

Nite Elvis

I am pissed by the way....you won't get this level of argumentative stubborness from me again i reckon

It only happen once in a blue moon

That may take a while

But i'll try it and get back to you if you don't mind

otherwise it works like a dream as allways

I fail to see the point of you being here, but we'll let that lie.

Sorry for interrupting your internet, Sir.

It's a review on the recently released 80GB PS3 Console.

I didn't really think it was rocket science, but then again, you are a bit of a thick twat.

Yeah... i was able to comprehend that from the title. I just fail to see why we need another debate on the PS3, when essentially it is the exact same console with a larger HDD.

fecking hell some right cretins in here.

I own a 360, prefer a 360, but my comment in here (not my first one, that was myself winding Elvis up late at night) is not aimed to derail the thread. There's no need coming in here and complaining about another PS3 thread, I enjoyed the article and gave me some useful information about the new PS3.

I will probably purchase a PS3 myself once I leave uni in the summer, all be it mainly for the blue-ray , GT5 and Wipeout. I will eventually (probably) also use it as the media centre for my house/flat as admittedly the technology inside is superior to that of the 360 by a fair way as well.

The reason I have a 360 instead is I prefer the gaming experience I get on one, and before I'm questioned, there are two PS3's within the flat I currently live. I can't answer why I prefer playing on the 360, I just do, its just a matter of personal choice. On that note how about we leave the PS3 lads to discuss their machine in how ever many threads they see fit (yes, this did deserve a new one), we can argue 360 V PS3 till death, it's been done on here many a times, I could write an essay on the matter, its that's well done, also there are probably 1000 of articles and discussions all over the net about the matter. So lets leave it out and all play nice.

fanboy.

To be honest, the PC is better than both. If there's one redeeming factor the 360, it's that it's got the Orange Box and now Left 4 Dead. The PS3 has got the Orange Box, but it's much less supported than the other two.

Of course, the 360 L4D is basically a port made by former Halo-guys, so the moral of the story is "get a PC so you can play proper Left 4 Dead".

And has a far more limited breadth of games.
No.

Are you some type of Valve fanboy?
Yes.

I'm also a right to vote fanboy, free speech fanboy and women's suffrage fanboy.

It's quite funny how you try to pull off this "wise man" persona when it comes to the console war, yet you manage to still come out with some of the best old cliches against PC gaming. You're clearly a fanboy yourself, and if you can't recognize that then that's your problem.

That's quite simply nonsense. Name a quality title for PC in every genre that has been released over the past 12 months.

If I can't recognize what? The thing that you fail to realise is that PC gaming is niche and only for very hardcore gamers or nerds. The reason for this is that being stooped over a keyboard and mouse with your face less than 2 feet away from a screen is not a context most people would find themselves comfortable with. Most people wish to play games in a more relaxed context, which is why Wii is finding itself so popular. The figures speak for themselves in that PC games hardly ever chart the top 40. PC gaming is elitist, uncomfortable, expensive, and riddled with piracy. You yourself show (by the only games you bring up in your argument being Valve games - the 1st person shooter kings) how limited the range and scope of PC gaming is.

Jesus christ you people need to stop this feckwittery. If you're going to argue about anything then argue about the SOFTWARE. You know the stuff that actually makes a console.

EDIT: I just read page 4 and I see the argument has shifted slightly to towards the software aspect.

Strategy: Red Alert 3
FPS: Left 4 Dead
MMORPG: Wrath of the Lich King
Simulation: Football Manager 2009
Sandbox: Spore (far from the game it should have been, still a good game)
RPG: Sacred 2
Space fighter: X3: Terran Conflict
Racing: GTR Evolution
Sports: FIFA 2009

I'll grant you, fighting games are these days purely a console thing.

And that's just the past couple of months. Now you do the same with Playstation 3.

I choose to ignore your senseless rant, but I just had to nitpick on one point. Namely your ludicrous (yet not at all surprising) suggestion that PC Games "hardly ever chart the top 40". That's obviously not true, but again, I'm not surprised that it's something you would latch on to. If nothing else, the fact that these charts don't take into account digital purchases (which these days are in the majority for some games), brings shame to your accusation.

I must say, though, you seem to get very upset whenever someone tries to knock on your precious PS3 fantasy. For someone who is so vocal about fanboys and "elitism" (ridiculous accusation if I ever heard one), you jump very quickly into long, boring tirades.

Oh, by the way, you don't really have to name all the new games for the PS3, because I simply don't care what you have to say. You're a bit of a joke, like the old senile granddad everyone tries to pretend isn't so senile, but that's fine. I'll go back to my elitist, expensive and uncomfortable PC games, while you can keep banging on about how good the PS3 is.

SOFTWARE. You know the stuff that actually makes a console.

This is not entirely true. Without the hardware you can't do the software. Is Wipeout XL/2097 a good a game as Wipeout HD? Maybe it is on certain levels, on others it isn't. I know where you are coming from however, because say the SNES version of Mario Kart is the best of the lot. All I am saying is that advances in hardware can add things that software alone cannot.

And that's just the past couple of months. Now you do the same with Playstation 3.

I'm not a heavy gamer, and have not been for a good 15 years. I don't support PS3 in the way it may come across. I mainly talk from a hardware or more abstract perspective. In fact, I never used to even get involved with game threads at all (you very rarely find me in a thread about an XB360 game for example). The only reason I even started (and now can't stop because these threads are fun) was the amount of shite that was being talked about PS3 around the time of its launch. The hardware junky in me also got me interested in PS3 because of Cell, which was the first major move to do something different and exciting in the home computing space since Amiga.

Class thread :D

Im also going to have to come out of the closest as a BioWare fanboy, I blindly defend and overrate every single one of their titles.

Yeah... i was able to comprehend that from the title. I just fail to see why we need another debate on the PS3, when essentially it is the exact same console with a larger HDD.

If you can't 'comprehend' it, why don't you stay out of it?

Good post.

That was fun!

I think you and I made it what it was.

We need to organise this. A thread maybe?

Definitely, I'd be up for it.

Weaste what do you make of the news that Sony have almost halved their production costs? Do you think that is maybe the reason we are seeing consoles available from 299 Euro's across some European territories?

The iSupply report you mean? Well, they have always been guessing. Didn't they first predict that the BOM was around $850 per unit at launch? Now they are saying that it's $450 or something along those lines? They will be off the mark slightly with that, and I'd expect that it's a bit lower - they have no real clue how much it costs Sony to make their own components (Cell, RSX, BD Lasers, etc.), but I think that $450 probably on the button after shipping and retailer margin is taken into account. The other problem here is that they are using dollars as their benchmark and not Yen.

However, that said, with certain bundles for €299 seen in Europe (when the RRP has been €399 all year), there is something going on there, but with the pound so low - almost at parity with the Euro, I can't see a significant price drop in the UK at this time.

Both Cell and RSX are now on the 65nm process, with Cell going into 45nm production early next year, which should filter down by summer into the retail units. It's then that I think we will see a big price drop (under 200 quid, under 200 Euro - XB360 will not get much cheaper very quickly), as they will redesign the internals of the machine quite seriously; it will not require anywhere near as much cooling (which has been stepped down for the 65nm RSX in any case), they can reduce the power supply, BD drives are constantly getting cheaper, they will continue to merge silicon, etc.

Driving on, when RSX gets to 45nm, they then may start thinking of sticking the Cell and RSX on the same die, and moving towards a slim model two years down the line from now I would think (So, Christmas 2010 at 129 quid).
