Reserves v Chelsea 18/04/11

We've done United a huge favour by banning Norwood from the caf. He's been on fire ever since.

Paul Scholes played for United's reserves tonight. He was wearing an Oliver Norwood mask.

Really pissed that I missed this match, I've lost touch with the reserves a bit this season :(

Norwood's performance is getting more than a bit over-hyped IMO.

I can see the Scholes comparison in that he smacked a lot of passes with his laces the way Scholes likes to (the backspin he put on the assist to Obertan was a thing of beauty) but his touch, control and manipulation of the ball in tight spaces was nothing like watching Scholes.

As datura said in the other thread, give him time, space and runners to pick out then he looks great. Remains to be seen if he can get the rest of his game in order.

Completely true, well said. I've praised him in some of the threads from a couple of matches ago too but that doesn't mean that his overall game is in any way developed enough to be drawing such comparisons.

At least 4 of his Scholes like passes were lofted into the corner where for some reason Chelseas right back just didnt close down. Dont get me wrong its great to see a United player with that in his locker, its whether he can do it on a real stage that matters.

I don't think anyone's really getting ahead of themselves regarding Norwood's performances - pretty sure the Scholes tweet was tongue in cheek, I certainly retweeted it as such.
