That was close! On the break, Hilton outpaced, ball cut back, stiker beats Tate and strikes at goal but Steele gets down well to make a great save.

TBH I only saw a glimpse of the replay of the goal because I was cooking my dinner, but I've got it noww, so I should be ok for the rest. :)

Nardiello's touch is awful btw.
 
Williams has another good strike on goal, and then another under pressure, but it went into the side netting.

Another good team move leading to a chance. The lads are playing good football.

At the other end Tate makes a good saving tackle.
 
Great movement by the lads, all hungry for the ball and prepared to run around the pitch to show for it.
 
Chadwick is playing in a more central roaming role like Beckham does sometimes, since the substitution. There's no doubt that he's the best player on the pitch.
 
Another great tackle from Tate - he sure can tackle, great timing, knows exactly when to come out and break it up.
 
Mark Lynch (15) on for Kirk Hilton. Great performance by Kirk, more crosses put in than I've seen GIggsy ever put in, most of them pretty close, just too low or too near the keeper though. Defensively ok, not quick enough though.
 
Turner for them heads on goal from a cross after neat work on the left, but easy catch for Steele.
 
A lovely turn by Williams in the left corner to leave two defenders for dead, then hits a poor cross/shot in.

Pugh off for a number 16, didn't hear the name, but fecked up within a minute of coming on, to be rescued by Tate.
 
oooooohhhh cracking shot at goal by Rankin after a great move involving Nardiello and Djordic, but straight at the keeper.

My MOM is Chadwick, constant menace, involved in everything and he lasted the full 90mins.

Ahhhh seems I've made a big cock-up earlier, cos I've just seen the replay of the goal - it was Matty Williams who setup the goal from the right and then played it square to Nardiello who cracked it in. Funny though that Williams had by far the better game because Nardiello didn't do much else. That'll teach me to take my eye off the ball I suppose! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />
 
Luke says he hopes to make his mark this season and get some games, he recognises that at his age he needs to be involved. I hope he stays fit, because he's a terrific player, very influential, totally comfortable on the ball at speed.

After watching all the replays, the move starts with Chadwick on the right, who passes the ball into the box where Williams takes it while holding off a defender and then squares it to Nardiello who traps it and then sweeps it into the far bottom left corner.
 
good game I thought, pacy and flowing. The ref didn't give us anything though, perhaps becasue Djordic was looking for FK/PK's too often..

Chadwick had a good game, seemed to quieten in hte 2nd half though, perhaps becasue he was on the opposite side of the pitch so I couldn't see him so much ;)

Tate had a strong game as always, as did Williams. Luke Steele performed well when called upon.

Overall a better game than saturdays, should have been more than 1-0.

To tidy up a few things:
Mike Phelan is stand in Reserve team manager-the post is actually described as vacant! Why McClair has been demoted to under 19s Manager after winning the league last season I have no idea? :confused:
Davis is on loan at Swindon and Webber at Watford. Luke Chadwick had a bad injury and missed most of Pre Season. Even so he was a GIANT
tonight beautifully balanced aggressive running and kept it up the full 90 minutes although he looked puffed on occasions after a run.
LOads of Nationwide managers in attendance, Brian Horton, Port Vale,Dennis Smith of Wrexham, Cotterell of Stoke and of course SAF and Carlos with the full coaching team in attendance also.
There will be 4 extra reserve matches this season with Birmingham and West Brom added to last seasons teams.
Comments on individual players:
Luke Steele, had a quiet game as United dominated but what he had to do looked very assured. One Schmikes type save after54 minutes when a rare West Brom break let Collins through with an open goal at short range. Luke made himself huge and saved with his foot.
Lee Roche good solid defence-he is very quick!
Also made some brilliant overlapping runs a la Gazza or Phil.
David(New No 2 haircut)May had a super game marshalling his young chicks and nearly scored a goal!
Alan Tate looks ungainly but made some tremendous headed clearances from long kicks upfield by their goalie. I made a note that his distribution wasn't too good after he gave the ball away twice -and he never faltered after that! He needs a lot of polishing yet though. Compared to Wes or O'Shea he's an infant.
Kirk Hilton has been injured for 18 months. tragedy for the lad. He is now 21. He had a terrific game , solid in defence and again those lovely defence penetrating overlaps. What an engine the boy has.
Chadders , MOM and a class above everyone else on the field. Nice to have him back.
Darren Fletcher, good game without being outstanding. Bit of a sulker though.
Djordjic was just himself. I think midfield is his best position. Slight tendency to over elaborate. Got caught dribbling too much at times, and lost possession.
Danny Pugh was terrific. Showed the self confidence brought on by his recent elevation to First team footie. Some lovely dribbbling skills to beat opponents and some great crosses. United have 4 or 5 good natural left footers in the junior ranks!
Mattie Williams- set up the goal for Nardiello and worked hard throughout without really threatening . West Brom were defensively excellent .
Nardiello was disappointing apart from his well taken goal.
Subs:66 min Rankin on for Fletcher, had one superb Scholsey type shot that the goalie fisted away. Showed good promise.
70 minutes Bardsley on for Pugh saw little of the ball. 82: Lynch on for Hilton. immediately made some good runs down the left flank. Muirhead didn't get on but we know all about him. neither did the goalkeeper Lee.
Next match: away at Everton 4th September.
