Replacing Casemiro

Carlos Baleba. I know we need someone who can come in and take over immediately. So this may be bit early but I really want us to look that guy. He is good .
He's the right guy. Unless Ederson is cheaper than go for this dude, he's young and prem proven, which we need to try and get back into buying.

Douglas Luiz with an option to buy seems like the best solution. He still has legs and knows the premier league well.

Hard to see many midfields that could outwork and out muscle an Ugarte Luiz partnership.
Not followed how him at Juventus but I always thought he was a good player. I think he could partner Kobbie or Ugarte well. Similarly, if they are both out I think Luiz is a better fit to play with Bruno or Eriksen in CM than Casemiro.

I would still prefer the first choice combination of Kobbie and Ugarte but I think Luiz provides an option for credible competition and at worst a competent back up that could replace either one of those two in the midfield.

As the Swedish Rumble explains, with a 4 year deal Casemiro's 70m transfer fee is amortized at 17.5m per season and with a wage around 300k/week (15m/year) his yearly cost is probably over 32.5m per season. The cost for a 100m player signed to a 5 year contract 200k a week contract is 30m.

We have to get him off the books.

Not sure who.

But we shouldn’t have any difficulty to find replacement because Casemiro is on 350k p/w wages. If we get rid of him for good means we are freeing that 350k pw from our bill. If his replacement is going to be 100k pw max then we have 250k p/w to spend for transfer fees. We usually pay transfer fees in 5 years instalment so 250k p/w is equivalent to 65m transfer fees. I’m sure there are lot of midfielders we can sign for that budget. Although, I hope we don’t spend them all on midfielder.

Since we already have our regular midfielders to build on (Ugarte & Mainoo), I don’t think we need special top class player to replace Casemiro. I’m hoping someone who offers physicality, can play in high intensity game, and very good in retaining possession especially capable to handle the high press. If he has good passing ability, that would also be great bonus.

Some deal with Zirkzee going and Douglas Luiz coming would be fantastic for us.

Baleba or Ederson plus Angel Gomes on a free would be solid business but would only be feasible in the summer realistically.

If we sell Casemiro now as an interim we could try and get Douglas Luiz on loan but I expect Juve will want an obligation to buy in there.

A random left field shout if we’re desperate would be a loan for Mario Lemina from Wolves the rest of the season. He fell out with Gary O’Neil at the end of his tenure and lost the captaincy + his spot in the team. Could be an okay stop gap if Casemiro leaves this month.

Last resort which I’m not totally against would be to trust Collyer with some more minutes.

It makes the most sense. Zirkzee will hold great value for Tiago Motta, whilst by the sounds of it Luiz hasn’t settled.

Plus PSR wise I’m sure we can agree something that benefits both clubs. That’s the only reason why he’s there in the first place.

Scream it from the rooftops my man, because this is the correct answer.

For a cheaper version but with experience already in the league, got for Mateus Fernandes. He is only 20 and he signed for Southampton for only 15M from Sporting, so he might have some connections with Ruben already, I'm not sure. But he is a quality CM that could add youthful energy alongside Ugarte. I don't know if he is as skillful as Kobbie in getting out of tight spaces etc, and I love Kobbie as a youth making a huge impact, but Fernandes can play a full 90 minutes which Kobbie can't manage. My dream signing is Carlos Baleba, but he would probably be around 100M based off recent history of Brighton selling CMs. I imagine we could get Fernandes for much cheaper and he is a quality young player.

There is no way a Prem player is the "cheaper" option in the market these days. Prem clubs have too much money to be tempted into selling for cheap.

At a club like Southampton I would imagine a lot of players have relegation release clauses in place which could facilitate some cheapish fees. Not for definite though, and if he is playing well enough for us to be interested I'm sure we wont be the only club and without a release clause we'd probably be looking at 30m minimum.

Not against an obligation to buy for Douglas Luiz, he's only 26 so would give us a midfield partnership of a combined age of just 49

Which is cheap these days! And most importantly Mateus Fernandes is a really good young player, and Southampton must surely know the writing is on the wall so why not try to cash in in January?

Was that the one who scored against scousers?

Douglas Luiz was brilliant at Villa so him coming in on a 6 month loan with an option to buy is the one with money tight, if we even got £20 million for Casemiro then I believe that shows a profit as far as PSR goes with amortisation plus his £350K a week wages gone to which is another £28 million over the next 18 months.

He's not quite a number 6 but rather a number 8, would play the Mainoo role rather than Ugarte/Casemiro. Karazor is more defensive player of the two in midfield with Stiller.

Palacios at Leverkusen would be my dream number 6 signing. He's not only extremely combative in midfield but also is very good on the ball for a defensive player. Would fit in really well with our current formation since it's the same formation player at Leverkusen and he is doing really well in it. What I also like about him is that he can play with Ugarte or with Mainoo depending on how we want him to play, given his quality on the ball he can play as an 8 with Ugarte as well.

Would be expensive, around 60-70m, but would be worth it.
Palacios is a great player for this system but the injuries are a worry.

Yeah would love for us to be one of the Premier League clubs interested in him

May be petty, but I'm not up for having that shimmying bellend at the club. I'd rather take a chance on someone with bigger potential, like a Salzburg style signing.

Douglas Luiz on loan seems like the best option atm. If Casemiro is even to leave this January of course…

Seeing as we’ve had the dabbing pricks in Lingard and Pogba who were all style and no substance I’ll be fine with Luiz shimmying, with PSR being so tight we’re going to be going with loans or cheap deals unless we get cash from both Casemiro and Rashford which looks unlikely

Yeah Saudi interest gone too quiet again
For what it worth

From the article:
- It is not the first attempt to reunite, they already did it at United, but CR7 is clear and wants the Brazilian at his side, either at Al Nassr or... in the United States.

- Cristiano Ronaldo is considering several options for the future. One of them is to continue in the Saudi League but with a reinforced team, capable of fighting for the title against the powerful Al Hilal and the reborn Al Ittihad of Benzema, Laurent Blanc and Ramón Planes among others. Among those requests or wishes that the Portuguese player intends to have in order to make a champion team is the reunion with Casemiro, with whom he shared a dressing room for five seasons at Real Madrid.

- Solutions are being sought (for Casemiro) and his friend CR7 can provide them, as long as he finds that necessary point of motivation to continue in Saudi football.

- the option of ending up in the United States ( for CR) has appeared again. It won't be easy, but what seems certain is that he intends to live a third moment alongside Casemiro, who was his guardian, in the best moment of both at Real Madrid, including the Champions League. They were happy and they want to be happy again.

- In Riyadh they are confident of keeping the Portuguese under their control , but they know it will not be easy and to do so they have to propose something attractive for CR7 and that means having Casemiro at his side.

Yeah, we could maybe get Douglas Luiz for £25m or a double deal with Alisha Lehmann for £200m Seriously, a loan swap with Zirkzee probably suits all parties. Motta says that Luiz is a great player but needs time to get fit. I read between the lines and felt was on the outs. I may be wrong. A decent loan with us would raise his value again for probably a PL return (likely NOT with us). Let’s face it - he’d probably get a lot of games as a rotation option with Mainoo and Ugarte. He can play a more defensive or attacking CM role.

As for a more hidden gem option, maybe Neil El Aynoui of Lens? Was meant to be class last season and was gonna sign for Monaco last Summer but had an injury. Injuries maybe still an issue so probably not a wise move for us right now. Others may include Merlin Rohl of Freiburg, Pepelu of Valencia and Amir Richardson of Fiorentina (6 ft 4 beast).

Season is a right off, if he wants to leave now i'd be all for it with letting Collyer getting more game time this season. I wouldn't be panic buying and revaluate things in the summer with the right signing instead of bringing in some average players now. Zubimendi or Hjlumand comes to mind. Its not going to be a quick fix but a project over the next two seasons.

Is Douglas Luiz a long term option?

I wouldn't be against a 6 month loan with an option but not obligation, he will be on big wages at Juventus, clearly either has injury issues, or just fallen out with Motta.

The main question I ask is he going to be a 1st choice going forward, as we have rumours of Kobbie wanting more wages and are we going to annoy him buy giving it to a rotation player.

For me if Casemiro goes, get him on loan if he doesn't work out, bring in a long term target, my preference would be Hjulmand, Zubimendi or Stiller, as Wharton injured but also to expensive in the summer.

Unfortunately due to our FFP restrictions, we might have to take opportunities like this and be cleverer in the market.

I think we maybe do have to look at someone like Essugo, as much as I like Baleba he would be very expensive and we are also going to need to replace Eriksen in the summer. Given all the work needed elsewhere in the team I think spending 80m odd on any individual player is maybe too big a risk.

Yeah I agree. We've got so many needs that we can't afford to pay what Brighton would want. Going for Essugo is probably the best bet, he provides backup to Ugarte but could also play with him as well. He's getting more comfortable with his passing

Agreed, I would go with this approach, bank any cash we get for Casimero, play Collyer when needed (and is Gore anywhere near ready?).
This window we should only spend wisely and save bigger rebuilds for the summer.

Spurs could be one to watch on this, mind you neither of us can offer him Champions League
He needs game time. Not UCL. He'd easily get game time with us and we both benefit. He'd get in the shop window for UCL sides. We'd get back into a good position on the table. Heck if it went swell we could " then get hitched"....

No from a quick search it was Cameron Archer that scored against Pool. Mateus Fernandes reminds me of Herrera a bit. He is a young number 8 that constantly wants the ball and is always looking to buzz around and get involved, from what I can tell.

Think he was the one who set it up
