Replacing Casemiro

Angel Gomes.
Amorims midfield will always have a ball winner and a playmaker. Ugarte and Bruno, or Ugarte and Mainoo is the main pairing. We need backup for Ugarte, not just any talented midfielder, and not the playmaker where we can also backup Mainoo or Bruno with Eriksen.

I think Gomes on a free would still be worth having. Could fill in for Mainoo and also the attacking midfield slots.

I’ve just realised I’ve posted this in the Casemiro replacement thread, so not really relevant.
Haha yup! But I agree, on a free it'd be worth adding to the squad, even if he's not physically suited to the Prem and not necessarily an ideal fit for Amorim. He's talented enough to make it work and he's a homegrown talent which we need to keep at the core of the club, even if as a squad player.

It’s not worked out for him at Juve. He has had a few minor injuries but he isn’t getting any game time and is supposedly hoping to move back to the Premier League.

With Juve being heavily interested in Zirkzee, this could be a good opportunity for us.

Are we even interested?

Baleba looks like the most guaranteed success, he’s already toying the PL opposition. Definitely a player that needs closer watching.

Caqueret looks class, perhaps some weakness as an all rounder, but he is very agile, breaks up play and can transition the play between midfield and attack with passing or ball carrying. He looks like he’d slot in with Amorim. It also sounds like PL clubs are sniffing a bargain, so he could quickly be a guy we regret missing out on.

Ederson seems ok, he could play with Ugarte or replace him. He seems like a great ball winner and industrious, abit all action. However invhis highlights im not seeing any visible elite ability compared to the opposition.

Gourna Douath seems pretty static, like a fixed 6 who can liven up. He looks capable as a single 6, but believe his play style is too slow.

Plus we probably get his missus in the deal too

Baleba is great but suspect is going to be north of 100m. I can see Brighton wanting Caicedo type of fee for him as well.

Scream it from the rooftops my man, because this is the correct answer.

For a cheaper version but with experience already in the league, got for Mateus Fernandes. He is only 20 and he signed for Southampton for only 15M from Sporting, so he might have some connections with Ruben already, I'm not sure. But he is a quality CM that could add youthful energy alongside Ugarte. I don't know if he is as skillful as Kobbie in getting out of tight spaces etc, and I love Kobbie as a youth making a huge impact, but Fernandes can play a full 90 minutes which Kobbie can't manage. My dream signing is Carlos Baleba, but he would probably be around 100M based off recent history of Brighton selling CMs. I imagine we could get Fernandes for much cheaper and he is a quality young player.
I like the suggestion of Mateus Fernandes. He has shown some great potential for Southampton so far, and he could do a decent rotational/backup job right away. Signing him now gives him time to bed in for next season(s).
Question is how much Southampton would ask for (and if they still think they have any chance of avoiding relegation).

EDIT: did get a handful of cameos as a 18 year old under Amorin in Sporting, before spending previous season on loan at Estoril. Could be a positive that they know each other (or not judging by some ETH signings).

It's got to be between Baleba and Ederson but we will not be able to get either in Jan. If we sell Case in Jan, then a loan bid for Luiz would be a good idea. Also, if we also looking at younger profile that can develop, Hugo Larrson and Dario Essugo would be good shouts.

Not one to rush. Little to play for this season. I’d rotate Collyer until the summer if that’s what it takes to get the right player

We foolishly let PSG have a free run at Joao Neves whilst we spent stupid money on Mount, but I wonder if by they’d let Vitinha go? He’d be perfect next to Ugarte.
Actually we funded PSG to sign Neves by buying Ugarte. Mount was brought the season before this one.

He doesn't play so it's not really a priority
I hate this line of thinking. He should be playing, giving us an additional midfield option but he hasn't been good enough. Same as Rashford. We need options, we can't keep letting players go then simply not replace them, that's how we've ended up with the mess up front that we have done.

If United were in a battle with a few teams to qualify for CL/Europa then a replacement would be needed asap.

But sitting in 13th/14th makes it less of a concern. Just sell him and worry about replacing him in the summer.

I agree with this. If Casemiro goes, it's a backup for Ugarte we need. I'm not sure if Mainoo could do that for a handful of games or Collyer with Ugarte was suspended for example. Haven't seen enough of Collyer.

If Ugarte picked up an injury that kept him out long term, even with Casemiro in the squad, we'd really struggle.

Baleba looks like he would inject much needed athleticism into this team, fergie would get it done...let's be like that again.

Angelo Stiller at Stuggart.

He's not quite a number 6 but rather a number 8, would play the Mainoo role rather than Ugarte/Casemiro. Karazor is more defensive player of the two in midfield with Stiller.

Palacios at Leverkusen would be my dream number 6 signing. He's not only extremely combative in midfield but also is very good on the ball for a defensive player. Would fit in really well with our current formation since it's the same formation player at Leverkusen and he is doing really well in it. What I also like about him is that he can play with Ugarte or with Mainoo depending on how we want him to play, given his quality on the ball he can play as an 8 with Ugarte as well.

Would be expensive, around 60-70m, but would be worth it.

Douglas Luiz on loan. In the summer, if the loan works out, then buy him, if not the find someone else. And add Angel Gomes to replace Eriksen.

Dario Essugo is the Sporting wonderkid that is supposed to be the next Casemiro. Not sure if hes ready but if he is then him and Stiller should be shrewd signings

I think we maybe do have to look at someone like Essugo, as much as I like Baleba he would be very expensive and we are also going to need to replace Eriksen in the summer. Given all the work needed elsewhere in the team I think spending 80m odd on any individual player is maybe too big a risk.

It’s a tough one, but there must be an academy player we can train to give the ball away?

I wonder if the plan is to pair the casemiro replacement with Ugarte. Would be a bit odd given Ugarte + Mainoo and Ugarte + Bruno seems to fit the Amorim midfield profile already. Unless we plan to move Bruno to the 10 position fully

Douglas Luiz with an option to buy seems like the best solution. He still has legs and knows the premier league well.

Hard to see many midfields that could outwork and out muscle an Ugarte Luiz partnership.
