Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is reportedly ready to reignite his interest in Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.

The Spurs boss brought Ferdinand through the West Ham academy during his time as manager at Upton Park and Redknapp remains a big fan of the England international centre-half.

Redknapp made a move for Ferdinand last summer but was told the defender was not for sale, but he is ready to try his luck again.

United have plenty of options at centre-half, including possible new boy Phil Jones, and Redknapp is ready to test their resolve for Ferdinand.

It is unlikely that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson would let Ferdinand go without a fight but he is believed to have an interest in Spurs playmaker Luka Modric.

Redknapp does not want to see Modric leave but if the midfielder decides to request a transfer or force a move, having conceded that a transfer is not out of the question this summer, then the Spurs boss may try to force the Old Trafford side to include 32-year-old Ferdinand as a makeweight in any potential deal.

If true he really is a massive transfer muppet, not a chance.

Does 'Arry solely want centre-halves that can only play every other game?

Would you be interested in that player Harry?

-"Aaaaaa, well you know he's a Manchester United player and I don't want to comment on him. But to be truthful we had a bid rejected there."

"The transfer window is awash with rumours!! SSN covers the activity perfectly I must say....can't wait for all the crazy #movement to start" - Rio

They can have Berbatov for Modric. Rio is still essential.

he also did try to sign phil jones. in fact he will try to sign all the players that are linked to some of the big premiership clubs.

Why would this guy leave united and go to Spurs

Could we not just have a stickied thread saying "Harry Redknapp interested in every player in the world. Triffic, lads."

One more season and I could have seen this happen.

Harry is a little bit mental methinks. I wouldn't buy him at his age, although he still has a big part to play with us.

He confirmed a bit ago that he made an attempt in the Summer just gone. With us signing Jones it wouldn't surprise me if he wanted to test the waters again.

I don't want Rio to go because he's top class but he's not as good as he was, you can see he's lost a bit of mobility due to his back.

The crux is I'd rather he stayed but I think we'd cope just fine if he was to go. We saw this season the Smalling - Vidic partnership has lots of promise.

I dont think we'd have made it through the two quarter finals against Chelsea without Rio in the team, there will be a time though where we will need to look to the future and make a big decision over Rio probably while we can still get a fee for him as well

That's not just yet though

No chance. Rio-Vidic are vital to our success, particularly in Europe.

We also saw that it's still not a patch on the Rio-Vidic partnership. His leadership and communication along with his ability means he'll stay here until he retires, I reckon. Our other centre backs don't have that and won't for a few years yet.

Ronaldo
Beckham
Heinze
Tevez

They all tired of winning.

Tevez got tired of being a massive cnut which must be exhausting.

However, he couldn't figure out the actual reason for his exhaustion as he's a spastic.

Bless him, at yet he's still struggling on with it; that's his 'never give up' attitude in full force.

Meh, a mere flash in the pan!

Seriously though, I prefer Rio as a defender to Vidic. Each are as important to the team as the other mind, bit Rio's style is rarer, more refined, I respect that.

Regardless of who's the better defender, Ferdinand's absence proved he's one of our - if not the - most important player in our team. Sorry 'Arry, would be 'triffic signing for you, but not a chance.

Q. If this was the only way we might get Modric, would you be ok with letting Rio go?

I've not noticed any drop in performance level whatsoever, which is what matters.

No chance he's leaving. About as much of playing for Tottenham next season as I do.
