This actually feels EXACTLY like a shootout. You even assume the taker should score so the perceived danger is when you are shooting and hoping not to cock up.

That is immense from Deco. Suddenly it just looks like a slip away from level when a minute ago it seemed like a possible strike 2 :nervous:

To take the next kick the responsibility is on the shoulders of the Brazilian legend Kaka. Inducted into the team just before this game, he seemed to fit in seamlessly and did plenty of damage, but will he carry it on here?

He's looking relaxed, takes a short run up and decides to go for a panenka!!!

Absolutely embarrassing for the former Ballon D'or winner as he hides his face. Peruzzi saw it coming and caught it comfortably.

Cutch 2-1 TITO

Unless I'm mistaken, the penalty taker is effectively moot, as they are decided by L vs R etc (for keeper/striker)...

No point to my question other than generally wondering

That is correct! But whoever picks the penalty taker chooses who scores and who doesn't.

There you go, almost level, just don't screw up err, whoever shoots now.

Actually, do, I have a great pic ready

A huge cheer from the crowd as the genius Savicevic walks in towards the middle.

He needs to score this to bring his team back to level terms. He is never guilty of lacking showmanship but seeing what just happened he might be looking to keep it safe.

Which side will he choose? He goes in and looks to slot it in the left corner.

And he gets it! Canizares repeated the same by staying in the middle, a big error.

Cutch 2-2 TITO

Finally, the man all were waiting for. Hristo Stoichkov has been sent to take the 4th penalty by his manager Cutch.

The star player of his team, and scored twice in the game, but all that would go to waste if he cannot put this one in. His team cannot afford two misses in a row.

He's gone for power and the ball is heading for the top right corner..

And there's no stopping it!

No doubts with Hristo, I still remember his perfect post-and-in penalty at Euro '96.

It's all gone quite realistic so far, particularly the part where the English guy misses.

In comes the controversy king, the Uruguayan Suarez. The whole stadium boos him as it's filled of mancs except one flag in the corner from his compatriot cheering him on..

A man known to deliver in pressure situations, he needs to keep his team level here.

He goes towards the right aiming exactly for the corner. Will it go in or hit the post?

He just manages to keep it in! He goes on to celebrate despite the crowd showering garbage!

Walking in, is Romario. Not the best of games for him as he failed to get on the scoresheet. He needs to forget all that and clear his mind.

A short run up, he seems to know what he is doing and goes for the left.

What happened to Peruzzi? He just didn't move!

Cutch 4-3 TITO

So this goes down to Romario vs. Totti

Ouch! It really should be sudden death then, they would both score here.

And the last kick of the shootout. The Roman God Francesco Totti has the job to keep his team in the game.

He's as focused as a laser, and blasts it right down the middle and the ball hits the crossbar...

But it manages to bounce just inside the goal while Canizares couldn't do anything about it.

Montero will sky it, has to be Cafú for Tito, then Ferrara.

Lucho for Cutch, surely. Or Alves?

Oh come on Tito, my index finger is getting cramp and Cutch is crapping himself at some random train station.
