SAF once said that Gary Neville was a couple of inches short of being a great centre back. That's why it will never be his best position even though he may be better at it than at right back. A central defender needs height above everything, especially in the EPL, where so much defensive work is done in the air and Gary doesn't have it, so can only be utilised as a cover.
And for those people slagging off his ability at right back; exactly how many matches have you seen him play this season? I have been to OT a few times and I can assure you he's been absolutely brilliant for us, and his understanding with Beckham is second to none.</strong><hr></blockquote>
i agree, Gaz is very very effective on the right along with becks. although his speed is just a little off the mark from a great full back. he has been caught out not coming back in time to do his defending job. although once he's back there he does marvelous jobs for us and he's the best in that position for us.
would love to have seen us used Gaz as a CB rather than blanc though.. i like Brown on the right side too.. if blanc can play while lacking speed, then i think Gaz can play lacking height.
