RedCafe FM10 Experiment

i say a list is compiled of the worlds top 30 players and they're drawn out, or a random draw and each player selects a well player dependant on weather they have 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice etc...

i would be in favour of the "release all players and have a massive transfer-fest" idea.

also, i disagree with some of the others here and think that we should not all have top-notch academies and stadiums. we should all start at the same level with average/poor facilities and maybe a 30k seater stadium, and then it would be up to the clubs about how they want to spend their budgets - some might invest purely on getting the best players, others might choose to invest in their infrastructure/academy etc.

this way it would give a bit more room for improvement amongst the clubs, rather than having us all start at the very highest level and not having a lot of ways to actually develop and improve the clubs other than trying to splash out on the best players.

I've already started us out with decent academy/training and a decent stadium, but I'll probably tune it down even further.

As for the "release call players" idea, I'll give it a go. If I can get it to work, we'll do it.

I've sent you a PM, cheers niMic!

Would be cool to do some kind of fantasy draft, but that would be a lot of work

Yea, that'd be fantastic.. Probably a bit too much for niMic to do though like you said.

I'm fine with whatever niMic tries to do. Only thing I wonder about with the "release everyone" idea, is the possible difficulty the Championship teams will have in signing players. I like the idea personally of completely randomized rosters, but I'm okay with whatever is easier.

Is there any way we could ALL get into some sort of instant messanger at the same time?

Like it was mentioned, "alot of work", but it could be done.

Well I'm available most hours of the day, so I could be. It'd be getting the busier, non-Uni student, types that could be a bit more difficult.

I'd suggest a draft done via a thread, but I know that would end up a complete and utter mess. After all, it is RedCafe.

Yeh, that would be the way to do it, but that could take ages, how long did it take to do that PL draft of all time that happened a few months ago.

But if that was to happen, the responsibility to organise would have to fall to someone other than nimic

Does anyone play The Game on the Times website, as a similar thing could work, we all list 20/30 players we want and then run through say in blocks of five players at a time picking the top player from the list if available, and then go back and submit another list of 20/30 players. Definitely has flaws, but quicker

We could do a draft, I can organize the order and draw names out of a hat, and hopefully within say, a week we have all the players picked.

Should we do 18/23 rounds rounds or so, and have the rest of the signings like the reserves and youth sides just be picked up in the run of the game.

But regardless, our teams will still sign the world class players if we're given a huge transfter kitty.

Maybe a draft where we pick 5 players a piece then?

I think we should be able to select the base of our club and let the game do the rest... maybe have different drafts for each position?

Surely we are only choosing the chairman and the tactics, isnt it up to the chairman to hire the manager, and in turn the manager to hire the players which fit the characteristics that each person has chosen for their team?

If your chairman picks a good enough manager, he will choose the right players to buy in accordance with the clubs tactical approach etc.

Either that, or we each choose 5 players each. Then let the game do the rest.

This seems like the fastest and fairest approach to be honest

Good stuff nimic! I'm actually more intrigued by this than my own football manager game for 2010, largely because I haven't got round to starting it yet.

i think 5 each is probably too much and the last choice of the last go will end up with a real bramble'esque player, it would be close to 150 players selected

so 1 or 2 is probably fairest and more intriguing as players must choose carefully

Probably, a fantasy draft of a squad of 23 would be quite time-consuming, whereas 5 or so gives you a good strong core to your team, and isn't that time-consuming, either for the draft or for nimic adding the players in.

I'll second this and add that two players seems just about right. Like you said, it makes our choices quite important, and they need to be well thought out.

Yeah, i'm thinking we base it like:

- Draft for ONE goalkeeper (GK)
- Draft for ONE defender (LB, CB, RB, SW, WBL, WBR)
- Draft for ONE midfielder (ML, CM, DMC, MR, AMC)
- Draft for ONE attacking player (AML, AMR, F, ST)
- Draft for ONE player in any position

I include AMC in midfield because most of those players are centrally based regardless.

Ok, somebody needs to do some sort of random order for the draft then.

Lets get it underway as quick as possible, I say...

Just run it by niMic as to how many players people should draft

Phelans shorts has a good point. 150 players is far too much. Lets just pick two players each. They can be in any position you would like.

Ok so just incase, considering I haven't played this hardly at all yet. Who's the best player in the game? :smirk:

i don't like the idea of a draft. Then again it's up to niMic.

Either do I, still in favour of free transferring every player. Each club has the same reputation so there won't be too vast a gap between the quality of players they're signing.

Ok if it's isn't possible then a two player draft seems the fairest without giving you too much work to do niMic.

That throws a wrench into things. Which is the easiest option for you niMic?

Why not just start the clubs with no players? If they're rich enough and with good enough Reps then they'll simply buy a load of players anyway.
