Football Manager 2010 Experiment
Season 2 (10/11) - End of Season Update
These things are just getting bigger and bigger. I'll do only the Championship now (and transfer news). Premier League might come today, or it might come tomorrow (or the day after, even).
Club News
There were no more takeovers this season, but there were some stadium changes:
- Licking - 8244 seats ready for 1.11.2011.
- Paz United - 8197 seats ready for 9.11.2011.
- GDH - 8193 seats ready for 11.11.2011.
- Manchester Buccaneers - 8021 seats ready for 11.12.2011.
Managers
There were only a few manager changes in the second part of the season. In the Championship, only WL102 had a change, as van Hanegem was sacked and replaced with Dalkey's Krasimir Balakov. Dalkey replaced him with MK Dons manager Paul Ince. At Halcyon, Luciano Chiarugi only got 5 months on the job before he was sacked himself. For a couple of days he was replaced by Assistant Manager Jesus Calderon as caretaker manager, but before long Halcyon hired former FC Searl manager Hugo Sanchez.
Transfers
As with the manager situation, there weren't quite as many chances as there had been during the summer. There were still some big ones, though. After selling Rossi during the summer, Chili's finally decided to splash the cash on a replacement, bringing in David N'Gog for a healthy £23.5 million. The Gate also decided to spend some money, making the £18 million signing of Diego Buonanotte their most expensive signing ever. After spending
heavily during the summer, FC Delhi wasn't quite finished, signing among others Banana Co's Marinho for £17.25 million, a player who had only the season before joined for £3.4 million. Other big transfers included WL102 signing Dutch wonder Georginio Wijnaldum for £11 million and Scottish international James McFadden for £9.5 million. There was also a big transfer out of RedCafe, with Victum selling Jesus Navas to Barcelona for £15 million. FC Searl, who had signed no one to replace their two stars in the summer, now signed 9 players, all for free. The average age of the batch of players that included Brian Mcbride and Rivaldo was 35 years.
The Premier League also saw less transfers than the summer window, but it also had a few high profile moves. The biggest was Paz United shoring up the defense with a £26 million Jonny Evans. Forest Heath had signed a lot of players in the summer, but all 5 January signings were more expensive than the most expensive summer signing, with the biggest being Chinedu Obasi for £25 million and Cesar Azpilicueta for £24.5 million. Other high profile, but less expensive, transfers included Tomas Rosicky and Richard Dunne to Longsight Athletic for 7 and 8 million.
Championship
There's no point delaying it: Foot FC came last. There were relative positives, though. For one, they no longer had the worst goal difference, they had the
joint worst goal difference. Another positive was their record for the second part of the season, which read 2-2-10. Not fantastic, but compared to 0-0-18 for the first part, not so bad after all. Above them perhaps no surprise itself, FC Searl. They also slightly improved their form for the second part, and got two consecutive 3-2 wins, and later two consecutive 4-3 wins. And no more 0-10 losses. That's not to say they didn't concede a lot, which their 103 goals conceded should disprove. In 15th, Crack, and so far the table is the same as after the first part. Their highlight for the second part was definitely a magnificent 5-1 win over top RCC club The Wovers, in between a 1-4 loss and a 1-6 loss, with a 4-0 win before the 1-4 loss, and a 1-3 loss before that. Consistency?
Above them in 14th, and a far cry from last years Cup final, Victum hadn't been doing so well, the only highlight being a 3-0 win over Gotham.
Also a far cry from last years cup final, WL102 found themselves in 13th, five spots down from the end of the first part of the season. They usually scored 2 or even 3 goals, but conceded much too many, only conceding less than the bottom two. Jubilee Hill sat in 12th, a long way from their bottom placing from last year. It seemed that Paul Sturrock, still Jubilee manager, was turning the ship around. Let's just hope he doesn't continue turning it around after doing the full 180. In 11th, right where we left them last time, Torpedo Ubergrad. And fans of the club could probably thank Fabio Quagliarella that it wasn't worse. Though quite a few players had scored goals, only Quagliarella scored more than 10. And he scored 29 (27 in the league).
Blackheath sat in 10th, after being in 5th at the turn of the year. Also they could probably thank their lead striker that it wasn't even worse, as last years £15.75 million signing Oscar Cardozo kept banging in the goals, finishing with 33 in the league. In 9th, Emirati FC, who had spent
heavily this season. And the January signings evidently paid off, the club finishing the season with 5 wins and 4 draws in the last 9. Equal on points with them in 8th, Athletic Shorts, who had dealt much better with relegation than
the other two. They had improved on their form from the first part of the season, so they could only hope to keep that going into the new season. In 7th, right where we left them, The Gate. Though Kaka had done reasonably well with 11 goals and 10 assists, the real star of the team was the striker, Villa. That is, £3.7 million signing Emanuel Villa, who had 24 goals in the league.
Ridgebacks was another team who had done better than their situation a few months ago, form that had seen them climb to 6th position, much better than their 12th finish last season. In 5th, right outside of playoff, Chili's had been in 4th just a couple of games before the end of the season. A 0-3 loss to The Gate set and end up a great run that saw them win 5 games in a row, conceding only a single goal. In 4th and 3rd, Gotham and Banana Co. They were equal on points, and had equal goal differences, Banana Co sitting 3rd only for their one more win. The playoff was a right affair, with Banana Co taking the lead. Unfortunately for them, Gotham came back and won it after goals by Robert Pires and captain Fernando Torres, who scored his 49th league goal of the season; his 101st league goal for Gotham in two seasons. Perhaps it was mercy on the RCC defenders that he would ply his trade in the Premier League next season.
Eto'o, Lassana Diarra and Gary Cahill would as well, as The Wovers finished 2nd, a point off Lecton but with a much better goal difference. Though they didn't quite keep up their form and win the league, Waverley supporters were still happy to gain promotion after last years FA conspiracy. In the top spot, Lecton had done brilliantly to work their way up from 6th, 8 points behind then leaders The Wovers. Though they had finally spent some money in January, after only having free signings during the summer, the total £26 million spent was peanuts compared to what some teams spent. One of the players signed was United player Mame Biram Diouf, who disappointingly never scored 4 goals in a game. Still, 2 goals and 7 assists wasn't too shabby. More good news for Lecton; Cristiano signed a new deal, taking a
slight pay cut, now being paid £40,500 p/w.
