You create your own player and do missions yourself or in a posse, things like bounty hunter, collector, hunter or bootlegging alcohol.
There is also a multiplayer option to battle against other players.

Have you played GTA online? It’s like that, but without cars to race around in.

Ch.3 is a good time to slow down and get sidetracked, get some good pelts and whatnot.

I'm there as well but it felt like a chore to gather rare bird feathers.

Haven't got into the animals yet. To give you an idea I finished the game organically and was at 89% complete. Now I'm at 92% having found the graves, rock carvings & dreamcatchers, as well as completing about 6 more challenges (now at 78/90 - Gambler 8+9 were bitches). I haven't played it in so long but just mindlessly getting these has familiarized me with all the controls and mechanics again. Such a good game!

Most of my socialisation these days is through RDR2 online, in a chat party with some friends. Is brilliant to have that option :)

When I got the game I got to nearly the end of main story but stopped a few missions short as I couldn’t bear the amount of shooting it had towards the end. Now I’ve finished main story and beginning of Epilogue is really a brilliant deviation from over the top final missions. Overall the game is good but they missed the trick a little with mission design.

I know a lot of people love this game but i am really struggling to get into it. It feels more like a simulator and way too slow. Also the controls is so cluttered, i have shot people when i didnt want to and end up being killed. Dont know what i am doing wrong. I like RPG in general but i am just not able to get into this game.

Oh, the Controls are shite

It is truly great as a Western simulator; just above average as an RPG/Action-Adventure/etc. game.

If you don’t adore cowboy movies or don’t have ties to this lore and mirrored real-life locations, it would be no surprise if you do not fall in love with it. Still has a good lead character story underpinning it though.

Just finished the main story. Really enjoyed that game it was an all time great.

I will play through it again one day but pay no heed to consequences and try and be the nastiest bastard I can be.

Gonna jump into online now - have little idea what to expect.

Done all the challenges, sitting at 98% now. Done 3 rounds of the Exotics so got whatevers left of that, plus the cigarette cards to collect and it's a hundred percent.

Done a bit online - wasn't sure about it but going to carry on see where it takes me.

There's a fair bit for new players to do online now compared to when it first come out,I enjoyed it for quite a while but the online support has been terrible.

I'm on my second play through. I absolutely loved this game on the first play through, but I'm quite bored in my second. I've spent literally 15 minutes just riding on my horse going from camp to the site of the mission. I feel like I spent the bulk of my time in this game going from one mission to another on horseback, and less on the actual missions itself.

Yeah I’m unsure on its replayability for me. A big part of the enjoyment was coming across new things while out and about and that will be at a minimum now as I took my time, explored loads and did plenty of hunting/crafting too in the first play through .

I played for far too long before finding out about the option to automatically ride to your target while you do something else :)

I've had this for ages but have only just started to playing it and i'm struggling to get into it. I loved the previous versions but i can't get on with the control system and i'm already quite bored.

I've just finished Days Gone where i loved the control wheel, so i'm unsure whether that's a factor.

I played until the part where you first set up camp after the snow thaws out and totally lost interest and never played it again.

Pretty much. Every time I tried to get back into it, I would give up after an hour.

Those first couple hours are a bit of a drag, but it soon opens up and the freedom it gives you makes it way way better.

I owned the game for about a year before giving it a proper go, kept feeling overwhelmed by the scale of it. I’m so glad I gave it that try, because I just couldn’t put it down. Incredible story, and I just loved spending time in that world. It’s now one of my all-time favourite games.

This is without a doubt the most incredible game ever created. The graphics are astonishingly good. The story is even better. The game mechanics are clunky but so bloody what? I’m perfectly happy to get thrown off my horse only to find a Tunguska type crater. It’s an absolutely marvellous open world game. I’m exploring this on Xbox one x and people quite frankly don’t have an idea the absolute colossal work that people had to put in to get to. Run 30 at 4K at decent frame times and without much judger.

This is the best game I’ve ever played without a doubt.

I’m having real trouble with HDR though. I know it has been fixed but I can’t find a sweet spot between clipping out the highlights cause an OLED can get so bright in an instance.

Fantastic game but I’ve never went back to it, played online for a while but don’t anymore. Still one of the best games ever.

This is me trying to work the HDR settings..

It’s a good game but an amazing journey. It’s truly special. In my 20 years of hard core gaming, I don’t think I played the game that had it all. This was just epic. After about 300 hours of single player on multiple consoles, I cannot say that I can pick another game that’s better than this. It’s just my opinion.

I got so immersed in it I was walking down the street thinking about looting guys and riding horses, no other game lives up to it for a while but it wears off after about a year :)

The game is absolutely incredible. Rockstar have done an incredible job on that front. They could and they probably will use some assets in GTA5 for PS5/X.

We laugh about them putting out the same game but they’ve been doing incremental updates for 7 years. You still can’t run 4k @ 60 with 2080 ti. Which shows you how incredible dense their world is.

Anyway, I’m so excited dude, if we can get DLSS 2.0 for Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s going to be incredible. It might cannibalise PS5 and series X sales though.

It's my first day off in 3 weeks so I decided it was time to finally start playing this.

I've just shot my first couple of deer with the bow and arrow and whistled for the horse. A little prompt popped up suggesting I should bond with the horse to increase range, so assuming it worked something like in Zelda, I came around in front of him and tried a couple of buttons to pet him.

Ended up punching him in the face and now, although he eventually calmed down enough to let be back on him, has now gone into a complete sulk and will barely let me control him.

Trust me that horse is gonna hate you even more once you’ve smashed it into every tree and rock available and sent it flying over cliffs...

 this kind of thing will definitely happen a lot more. I tried to mount my horse once and ended up knocking the shit out of a copper, right in front of the police station in St Denis. It wasn't good.

Look after your horse, I lost mine at one point and was a nightmare to trek and get it back. Don't let it die either, if it dies it's gone.

I finally got round to finishing this. I sold my PS4 so I was only able to play it when I went round to my partner's place to play on hers but Covid meant that stopped and I only managed to get up to the end of Chapter 4. Found a cheap PC key a couple of weeks ago and have finished it and just wow. It's a shame that the PC port is so awful because this is absolutely fantastic. I'm going to dip into Online a bit but I feel like I'm going to be disappointed as it seems like Rockstar only care about GTA V still so this might be ignored a bit. :(

Also - the Arthur scene where you're riding with the monologues/song playing. Deep. Rockstar really made you care in this one compared to GTA V where I didn't give a shit about what happened to any of the characters.

I find that it is purposefully done by Rockstar. They tried to go deep with GTAIV and people weren't interested so they've returned the story to being completely and utterly superficial.
