Red Cafe predicts the premier league table(!)

The amount of people who had us in first, deary me.

Good to see the caf not setting unrealistic expectations for a new manager anyway.

Looks like alot of people thought United would win the league or at least challenge for it.
Mourinho and United have been underwhelming however way you want to sugar coat it.
Conte on the other hand......

In an exchange of PM's in June I challenged a member to make predictions for the forthcoming season as he was gobbing off that City wouldn't finish in the Top 4.

    Gentleman Jim
Well you certainly are not afraid to make bold predictions:)

  2. My Top 4 for next season
  3. 1 Chelsea
  4. 2 City
    3 United
    4 Liverpool

    A Caftard.
    Mine are:

    United
    Arsenal
    Spurs
    Westham

conte will take a season to get it right

Think I'm going to be nearer the mark.

I think we have played well enough for most of the season to be considered a solid top 4 team. Those 5 home draws in our last 15 matches obviously stand out.
Not sure what your point is? I think we might get top four but it's unrealistic to think we'll get top two.

We also have the worst remaining fixture list of the top six, we're away to Arsenal, Spurs, and City, and our only home game is Chelsea.

I think Jose's actually done OK as the competition is particularly fierce this season compared to last when many big clubs were at the end of a managerial cycle and opportunist Leicester nipped in and committed an act of Grand Larceny.
You're very likely to win silverware and are 50/50 IMO to get CL.
The stagnation of the youngsters and possibility of Zlatan doing one at seasons end are the downside of Mourinho's tenure so far.

There's 5 points between us and Spurs in 2nd and yes, we play all the teams above us besides Liverpool still. We are at their level and have shown that for a long time even if we've been 6th forever, with Chelsea well above the rest. Given how tight it is, and how inconsistent all of the 2-6 teams have been, I don't think any one of those teams can claim a strong advantage with this much of the season left. As frustrating as our draws have been, we've strengthened in the last few months while others have faltered. So is it likely we finish 2nd? No. But it's certainly within reach.

1 Man City (3rd)
2 Man United (6th)
3 Chelsea (1st)
4 Arsenal (4th)
5 Spurs (3rd)
6 Liverpool (5th)
7 Leicester (16th)
8 Everton (7th)
9 West Ham (9th)
10 West Brom (8th)
11 Southampton (13th)
12 Stoke (11th)
13 Watford (10th)
14 Bournemouth (14th)
15 Hull (18th)
16 Swansea (17th)
17 Middlesborugh (15th)
18 Sunderland (20th)
19 Burnley (12th)
20 Palace (19th)
Teams doing better than I expected: 10
Teams doing worse than I expected: 7
Teams in position I expected: 3
Teams within 2 places from where I expected: 15
Teams more than 2 places from there I expected: 5
Team doing the worse than my prediction: Leicester (predicted 7th, position 16th)
Teams doing the best than my prediction: Burnley (predicted 19th, position 12th)

A lot can change between now and the end of the season but I feel like so far I've got the general position in the tables pretty good.

This thread is so funny now. Majority of you didn't even have Chelsea making the top 4.

Eh? Most had Chelsea 3rd which isn't a bad prediction considering the same team finished 10th last season.

I was confident we'd challenge for the title though considering we had the best player in the League & was certain we'd win it after the David Luiz signing.

My mistake then. Shouldn't have made that assumption without looking out most of the posts. Say a lot of 6th and 7th predictions. To be fair, I thought we'd come 3rd myself.

To be fair to the cafrards, did you even read any of the predictions before posting this?

Everyone on the first 2 pages had us in the top 4 apart from 1 joke prediction (had chelsea, Man City and Liverpool in the bottom 3).

How wrong did I get Burnley lol. Still think my top 7 could be right and I did day top 3 could be any order. Behind that I've had a shocker.

Been meaning to work out our caf average. Got a spreadsheet saved. Will work on it yowards the end of the season and then we can see how little we know as a group.

Will only take 2016 predictions, and only those in the few days after i made the thread.

Can't remember my predictions but had City to win it iirc, Thoight Swansea would just about stave off relegation which, fingers crossed, could be the case.

1. Chelsea
2. Spurs
3. Man. City
4. Liverpool
5. Man. United
6. Arsenal
7. Everton
18. Swansea
19. Boro
20. Sunderland

Sadly, I think United need to hit 74 points for a better than 50/50 shot at the top four and I just don't see them doing that.

I did predict Chelsea to win it & Liverpool to do well. Mainly due to the fact neither were in Europe, & Chelsea seriously underachieved the previous season. This seems to be how it has panned out. Different situation next season though. If we don't get top four or win the Europa league, pray we miss out of Europe altogether, & we may challenge for the title.

We won the League Cup so we're in Europe whatever happens in the PL or EL

Just had a quick & dirty look on posts until Sep 5th. No poster expected United to finish below 4th, less than a dozen expected United to finish below 2nd.

Yeah we all had a shocker...
Didn't mean it as dig; I'd rather it's the well-known fanbase bias. Happens across almost all fanbases. :) If you read across some Dortmund fan forums, you'd find a similar pattern: in some, about 50% predicted us to win the Bundesliga; complete nutters. :wenger:

Oh i know. We were all way too optimistic! I think i had us second. Even that was expecting way too much!

People concentrated more on the impact that Jose and Pep would have due to their history in Spain.

Clearly both need time to create the squads for their football and perhaps then the league will see the 2 Manchester clubs as top 2 in the future.
