Recommend Some Great Music Albums

Where do you work at to listen to your ipod, HB? Try Dark Passion Play by nightwish. Some of it's quite heavy, but listen to "the islander" first, it's an amazing acoustic song.

Nice one. Don't like ipods, and can't find a decent dock for my mp3 player. :(

Been really into Cat Stevens recently for some odd reason. You should definitely download Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for The Tillerman and Catch a Bull at Four if you don't already have them. Good stuff.

Live album by Joe Bonamassa - From Nowhere In Particular

My dad's a big fan of him, went to see him in liverpool not long ago. Must give that a listen.

I mainly like rap, rock, but have all sorts in my collection - from Pavarotti to George Michael to The Smiths.

I've never got into Radiohead, should I give them a better look in?

If you like to listen to great music then yes.

Which would you recommend first, I'll download one if I like it I'll get the others?

Mona Bone Jakon's my favourite but they all differ and bring different things to the table. But yeah, start with that I guess.

Or just download a best of compilation maybe?

 I might bump it with one of the Fail pictures.

EDIT: I've just got Loyalty to Loyalty, cheers.

:D Go for it, I thought it was a damn fine discovery myself, next time I won't bother sharing.

No, listen to Robbers first man, it is by far the best of the two, I'm still undecided on Loyalty as an album tbh, wouldn't be as good an introduction imo.

I need some good music for work, I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing my current ipod collection, I need some good music & I'm pretty open minded.

Thanks in advance.

Hip-Hop?

Which Album 1st Nome - think I've had OK Computer is that the best?

OK Computer is their most highly regarded album, along with Kid A, but that's probably not the best place to start. The Bends is their most instantly accessible, closely followed by In Rainbows. Hail to the Thief is brilliant too.

Actually, all of their albums are great.

If you'[re considering them, Think Tank and 13 by Blur are of a similar ilk (although they owe more to Bowie, as you might see from the first video below), so they're worth a shot too. Here's a couple of tracks from them;

Then there's the Pixies, who Thom Yorke was a huge fan of. Check out Doolittle, one of the best rock albums of the 80s, or since.

Now we're talking. :D

You should start with Come on Pilgrim and Surfer Rosa though imo, Doolittle gets all the plaudits but I love the raw sound of the first two. The drums in Surfer Rosa stand out in particular.

In actual fact their last two albums are probably more accessible for someone who hasn't listened to them before, less abrasive and easily the more tuneful.

Alice Cooper - Love It To Death
AC/DC - High Voltage
Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
The Stone Roses - (Selftitled) & Second Coming
The Georgia Satellites - In The Land Of Salvation & Sin
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Sex Pistols - Never Mind The Bollocks
The Ramones - Rocket To Russia
Queens Of The Stoneage - Songs For The Deaf
Nirvana - Nevermind
Rose Hill Drive - (Selftitled)

Most are well recognised classic albums, but if you are missing one, get a copy.

santogold: santogold
the klaxons: myths of the near future
joe budden: padded room just came today
n.a.s.a: spirit of apollo

i can and will provide links to all if needed

Well Doolittle was the first Pixies album I listened to, so as you'd expect, that's the one that has stuck with me. Plus, I think the overall sound is much more polished and generally more diverse and interesting. "Hey" is my favourite Pixies song, while "Here Comes Your Man" is, as you say, more accessible than just about anything else they've done.

That said though, "Where Is My Mind?" from Surfer Rosa is usually considered their best song, and "Gigantic" is a great track too.

Anyway, Handjob Bob, you should try out some of these as well;

Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Yo La Tango - I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It in People
Portishead - Third

All depends on what kind of music you like I suppose! I'll try think of some different sounding stuff.

The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
Lou Reed - Berlin
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Primal Scream - XTRMNTR
Anything by Sam Cooke!

Or ofcourse you could just listen to one of the best albums EVER made -

London-Calling.jpg

Besides that I've been giving these two lovelies a lot of play time on my pod of late -

Bob Dylan - Modern Times
Robert Plant and Allison Kraus - Raising Sand
