Real Madrid 2017/18

Real don't even celebrate CL wins with much fervour anymore. brehs were just walking around like it was a league cup

La Decima was the special one for them in 2014....I think. Also won it after a 12 year gap and a considerable period of underachievement (think they went 6 years constantly losing in round of 16 before Arsenal took over that mantle).

Winning it year in year out loses a bit of shine although great achievement when you think of the great club sides in last 30 years who haven't won it back-to-back.

Not really sure about that. Judging by the comments on Marca, ForoRealMadrid, Twitter etc, I'd rather say that Bale has actually got a lot of support among the general RM-fans despite his injury problems whereas Benzema gets either abused or hardly gets the praise he deserves.

Interesting. Always felt Benzema is more loved there because he's seen as more pure football (Bale is more a moments player with his long range shooting whereas Benzema on good days links up well) and also speaks good Spanish while Bale is obviously seen as outsider by not conversing much.

Playing for Real Madrid must be quite confusing for many. Obviously great guarentee of medals but the constant switching between adulation and whistling from the crowd must make many of the players down the years wonder if they are ever truly loved by the crowd.

They are a great side that does not feel like a great. They do not have a clear style of player, they never look like the most cohesive side, they just have a side filled with players who are able to pull off the spectacular.

What was lucky about it?

Probably Lewandowski falling over last minute when central in penalty area. Bayern Munich missed a shed load of chances over the two legs they would score with their eyes closed v a Hamburg/Wolfsburg.

You also had a clown moment from their keeper which ironically Benzema also pounced on.

Real Madrid were also 3-0 down in one of the ties.

It's probably correct to say this is the least impressive of their four recent wins but doubt they'd care about any of that.

2016 was their least impressive of this run.

Think it ends here. A lot of keep players are getting old and want a change of scenery. If I was Perez I’d use the warm glow of triple CL’s to do a generation change at the club and bring in some new blood.

We do need some new blood

Benzema out he did well tonight but he was awful during the whole season.
Bale out since he want to leave and I dont think he is happy at all living in Spain.
Ronaldo out ? I dont see him being able to do another year at top level.
Isco out ? I love him but I dont see him able to really be a world class player in Madrid while Zidane is coaching us, he need to join City/Barcelona.

In
Lewandowski
Neymar/Hazard
Salah
Pjanic/Eriksen
Oblak

Assuming you're saying Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema and Isco out and Lewandowski, Hazard, Salah, Eriksen in then that's a major downgrade

Lewandowski aside all of the others need these current Real Madrid players to get them to that next level, I know you did mention him but only Neymar could come in and fill the void left by those players you want out

The team could use some new players as currently this team is weaker than last season. That being said the change needs to be gradual and it's nonsense to suggest we need that many players.

They have decide between Bale and Isco, have to start looking for a replacement for Benzema and maybe another CB other than that they are fine.

According to the press 50 players leave Madrid and 50 new players come in every year but usually the same end up remaining. Madrid fans wanting to get rid of vital parts of the squad that won 4 Champions Leagues in the past 5 years are insane. It obviously won't happen either.

Their league campaign wasn't good enough so there will be new players for sure but they need to be very careful on deciding who they sell. I wouldn't be surprised if every one of their regular players ended up staying. I think Majoral, Vallejo, Ceballos will be loaned and they'll simply sign more players to give more competitiveness in the squad.

Is there any chance of James returning or are Bayern going to exercise the right to buy him?

According to the pres he had no relationship with Zidane, so if Zidane is staying, James is definitely not coming back.

This is so true. No club other than perhaps us gets linked to so many players by the press. I guess that’s what happens when you have 2 sports dailies in your city and they have pages to fill. Over the past Madrid has been linked to every quality player there is. I guess agents plant these stories to keep their players in the news and paid accordingly.

Madrid will buy 4 or 5 mid level guys to substitute the reserve players that Zidane clearly did not rate (Ceballos, Llorente, Achraf) . If Bale is as unhappy as reports say he is, then maybe he is sold and then Perez goes all out on Neymar or Hazard. But no more than that.

Zidane press conference at 13:00, people writing that he could abandon :nervous:

Leave Real. Probably the right time.

Where does he go from 3 in a row?

Hmm interesting, he signed an extension last season and there was no press conference about it. I think he's resigning. I'm quite confident about this.

Smart man if he goes. He's won 3 consecutive CL's and at the peak. The team is due a rebuild soon and he might not feel up to it.

What decnt jobs are open though - where would he go? Replace Conte at Chelsea?

He's really his own man and doesn't follow conventions. He could take over the French National team or go on sabbatical and then take over in the likes of Marseille or Juventus.

According to someone in COPE the replacement is Guti
Exit: haha,they did a joke,I think

I just don't see what else it could be except Zidane leaving. Would be a smart move as he'll be a legend forever. If he doesn't leave now he'll have to oversee a rebuild which is never easy. I guess we'll know for sure in an hour or so!

Edit: I just realised.. if he leaves chances are Bale will probably want to stay at Real to see if the new coach will give him a starting spot.

It's not that unlikely, is it? Madrid has had good results with in-house coaches (Zidane, del Bosque, Miguel Munoz) and it's not like there's a lot of big time managers out there they could hire. Pochettino just signed a new deal and he was the one I saw as most probable.

A few months ago I thought it would be a joke, but maybe it would not be a bad idea. He has an strong personality and would not leave anyone indifferent, but perhaps he lacks a little more experience. Zidane was a year with Ancelotti in Madrid, Guti has only been with the youth

Do you think someone like Conte has a shot?

Wow, I would be amazed if he resigns after 3 consecutive CLs and La Liga title in between given he's only been there for 2 and a half seasons. But why?
