RAWK Goes into Meltdown 2014/2015 - The "We go again" Edition

I take it you didn't see many United - Liverpool or England - Scotland games. I would have loved to see them both in a United shirt, but if I could only have one it would be Robson. Because of Liverpool's dominance at the time, Liverpool never really needed a single player to get a grip of the game and turn it around. Robson did that most weeks because United weren't a well oiled machine.

That "Nuke Manchester" banner is from about 10 years ago. Nukes were weaker back then. :)

@BarneyLFC Robson was clearly the superior overall talent however his injury proneness didnt help him.

Saying Robson was better than Souness strikes me as people saying Gerrard was better than Scholes.
Robson 607 appearances 116 goals 90 caps 26 goals

Souness 539 appearences 73 goals 54 caps 4 goals

no comparison
Didn't Souness play deeper and Robson was more box to box ? Bit silly to judge them on goals anyway, especially when you look at Souness honour list compared to Robsons.

Comparing a players honours list is equally daft in my opinion. I mean the likes of Luke Chadwick, Quinton Fortune etc have more Premier League medals than Steven Gerrard purely because they were part of a better team.

Woah, we aren't allowed to take that into account when comparing Scholes and Gerrard so that can feck off.

The thing is the first statement is accurate, the second is obviously total bollocks.

They were all good players, nobody is dissing any of the players. But when you compare what Robson did for the England team and United versus what Souness did for Scotland and Liverpool there really is no comparison. Souness was a key cog in a well oiled machine, and played his part exceptionally. Robson, was more like the heart and sole of a body. He led the team with his head and heart, probably going that step too far resulting in a lot of injuries.

Comparing Gerrard and Scholes is less easy. Scholes was surrounded by many very good players over the years, Gerrard only really excelled when he had Alonso supporting him. Gerrard has however been the cornerstone of Liverpool's poor squads for the last decade. It is probably true that neither Gerrard nor Scholes took to the big stage particularly well. Both, imo, failed for England and did not excel in CL, odd bits of magic, but largely invisible.

To be honest it does seem to get brought up when comparing them two, i was going to make the point that it strikes me as comparing Scholes to Gerrard when you look at the parallels in their careers. Except Robson didn't slip on his ass when he was about to win his long awaited league title :p

We werent comparing teams were we? Its the same excuse the dippers use when the Scholes/Gerrard debate flairs up. Besides Robson was clearly a superior player and athlete.

They weren't the same style of player so looking at goal records is pretty fecking stupid. I could show similar statistics that would 'prove' Lampard is better than Gerrard and Scholes when he isn't actually.

It does, all the bloody time! And you'd be right in saying that, but players will be compared and in the end it should be the players alone, not their trophy cabinet, well individual awards aside. And ah, one thing United fans and Everton fans alike will enjoy for a long time!

Yep in 20 years time when my mates bring up Gerrard and go on about what a player he was etc. I will just reply with ' yeh but remember that time he slipped on his ass and cost you the league". Every.Single.Time.

My dream in life is to empty my bowls on the kop...

Someday......

True story: my best friend got married at Anfield in 2010. I was his best man, and the only rule for my speech was not being allowed to use the term "bin dippers." When I got to the podium I realized there was a giant picture of Michael Owen directly in front of me, so I started by thanking the Anfield staff for making me feel welcome by having one of my players up on the wall.

I wish we had some form of thumbs-up type system implemented to show my approval of this post.

Lampard was better than Gerrard though.

He wasn't and I'm not going to get involved with that debate again.

Lampard was the central player to a Champions League, Multiple premier league and FA cup winning side. Scored a ridiculous amount of goals and had a ridiculous amount of assists. He just didn't come with the hyperbole Stevie Me does.

They robbed you...Didn't they?!

Its a good starting point. I still dont hear a compelling arguement that 'the tache" was better than Captain Marvel
