RAWK Goes into Meltdown 2014/2015 - The "We go again" Edition

They aren't though. They may have more history, but these days I'd say Chelsea are at least on par with them, all things considered.
I'd say Liverpool are more world renowned and famous, they have won so many more trophies in their history it makes Chelsea look a joke, they still have a huge global fan base and are simply a bigger club in my eyes and always will be.

They are still nowhere near as good as Chelsea though in terms of their team now, and most years out of the last 15 years.

Everyone starts somewhere with their success. Right now we are bigger, in the entire history of football obviously not.

Fixed. No club can go this long without winning their domestic league and still be considered big.
That is utter bollocks. Man Utd went 26 years without winning their league and were still the most supported team on the planet and the most famous club.

Well, right now you are a much better team yes. Still doesn't make you a bigger club and never will be. Everyone starts somewhere with success but in the case of United and Liverpool it's the 1910's not 2004. They are institutions of English Football.

If in 70 years time we have totally dwarfed Liverpools trophy haul and become consistently better and more supported than them then yes they will.

Simply being one of the first hugely successful teams doesn't qualify you to hold the titles forever, it just means you hold them until eventually maybe another team takes them off of you. We have decades and decades to go, but then thats how everyone built up their histories.. over decades and decades.

Think that might be a dubious claim. Most supported team at the moment? Yes. In 1993? I really doubt it. Our global brand really kicked up a level after the 98/99 treble season.

You can't say that either. Any club can eventually be overtaken.

To be fair we were always the most supported team in England and worldwide got loads of fans in the 60's. That's why we dominated the early Premier League seasons because we were who most people wanted to see.

Ok. So the first game we didn't score early. In fact we conceded early. We were outstanding in the second half though. Explain to me how your point in your initial post is backed up by that?

We didn't deserve to go through based on the last 75 minutes (Chelsea really didn't do much then either though). We battered them the previous match and a half and did everything well except for finish of the chances we created.

Yes you were 'outstanding' but you failed to turn that superiority into goals and take control of the tie in the first game. They didn't fade away in the first game as the game resembled attack vs defence (Chelsea got an early goal and were happy to sit on a 1-0 score). Tonight it was a more even game and after pressing well for the first 60-70 mins Liverpool lost creativity and stamina and posed little threat whilst Chelsea got stronger.

Due to Liverpool's lack of cutting edge in the first game Chelsea didn't have to do much tonight.

Well Chelsea aren't close to Liverpool. It's not as though Liverpool have been in Chelsea's shadow for years anyway. They only finished above them just last season.

Of course it's a subjective topic with no definite answer. I do think you are getting drawn into the 'romanticised' view of it though, which Rob mentioned.

Liverpool are just another big club now, and not a very good one at that.

Coutinho has been very hit and miss to be fair.

I've never seen somebody so talented, score or create so little. The run he made was one of my favourite moments of the season, though glad he missed it.

Finishing 1 place and 2 points above us in nothing compared to the 11 major trophies we have won to their 2 in the past 10 years. If that rate continues we will eventually topple them, of course that doesnt mean we will be at the top of the pile, theres United and other of course.

Yeah well, I think Liverpool are a bigger club and I'm sure a lot will agree with me despite your good points.

This is classic of RAWK threads on the Caf. Almost a whole page and the only link is to shirt sales.

He's worse than Lallana, Sterling and now Markovic. Even Suso isn't far from him.

Before the takeover, it seemed very few people outside of London supported Chelsea. There definitely were a few pockets of fans scattered around the place (players like Zola certainly helped win Chelsea a few followers), but nothing too major. After the takeover there were suddenly "hardcore" Chelsea fans everywhere.

Are Liverpool the bigger club? In terms of history, it's not even a contest -- Liverpool win. In terms of recent history, likewise, but it goes in Chelsea's favour.

Seriously though, as for the debate you guys are having, I don't think Chelsea are on Liverpools level of prestige yet, but you could argue Arsenal are a bigger club than Liverpool.

Now we need more posts from RAWK on here!

Chelsea got more fans when we became successful. Why do Liverpool have so many non scouse fans? Because they were incredibly successful. Being a glory hunter is not a new thing.

Yeah I agree, but the difference is in the rapidity of the thing. Liverpool and United gained fans gradually as they became successful, you didn't stick your head out the window one day and suddenly notice a flock of Untied fans... it took time, so much so that it seems big clubs have always had millions of fans. With Chelsea it was almost overnight.

Not really, it's been over 10 years.

I think that's right. There has to be a time when past glories fade if they're not renewed. Otherwise teams like Preston with their previous haul of trophies would still be bigger. Everything's transient.

Well done, you successfully proved how useful most stats are with that post. Coutinho has been brilliant this season, probably our best so far.

I'm not watching every Liverpool game, but he was the worst player on the pitch everytime I did.

He had one or two dodgy ones at the start of the season so maybe it was those that you caught, but after a shaky start he's been consistently very good. Could do with improving his finishing though.

Liverpool are a massive club. That's why, historically, we've always seen them as our main rivals. If you have a grasp of football history, it's pretty obvious.

At some point it has to change, and I'd say Chelsea are bigger.
Not only more relevant (and having the better side for most of the past decade) but trumping them in most aspects off the field too.

Not that it matters.
