Rasmus Hojlund (Out)

It's a shame it's not worked out for him but I think it'd be smart to move him on this summer. I think too many of the basics just aren't there.

Italy is probably best for him, a transitional team.

He’s awful. We ain’t getting anywhere near half what we paid for him.

He will make it here if there’s someone who can help him, expecting him to lead the line at 21 was ridiculous

Unfortunately he just isn't particularly great. Maybe in a few years he'll become a decent forward for some EL team (not us) but we simply can't rely on him for the short term.

He has ability, scored some beautiful goals, but the premier league is far too physical for him and I just can’t see him improving his first touch which is atrocious. Italy would suit him far more. Hopefully because he is young we can get £25-30M for him

I still think there’s plenty of potential there and he may go on to be a good striker for a top club. But right now we can’t afford to be babying him and having him lead the line for us.

His book value should be about £38m in the summer. If we get offered that for him, sell sell sell.

He's a big lad , really shouldn't be a physicality issue for him . You don't need to be build like Traore to be a successful forward.

Think he is suffering from being too young/naive and not ready to be the main man - But this comes with the territory of being the first choice striker at a big club with a huge price tag. Has been really exposed by the new system and needs to improve.

Owes Zirkzee big time for taking all of the flack - Properly got away with being anonymous all season.

And his wage appears to be around £85k a week, shouldn’t be hard to sell if we find a suitable replacement.

how about viktor gyökeres ? can he thrive in EPL ?
I think he can, as firstly has played for Coventry, albeit in a lower league, but most of the best performing young strikers have done well with loans there.

He also has the core aspects required in a striker, which will do well in any league and has thrived in Amorim's system, becoming a beast of a striker with the best best record last year.

You can never say 100% but he will easily do better than our strikers by a country mile.

Really like Rasmus as a young prospect but he looks a serious victim of this formation, being left very isolated. He needs to be able to hold the ball up until we get others up in support but he seems totally incapable of it. Long balls up to him never ever stick. Gets virtually no chances in a game but that cant all be down to the service so needs to look at his own movement and decision making

I really like Rasmus and it’s a shame it isn’t working out for him. He’s struggling so badly though, it’s best he moves on.

I think a Bundesliga move would be good for him.

Whether we sell him or not, I hope we never buy a young prospect for 70m or whatever we paid for him ever again.

Simply too much can go wrong. You pay that money for someone established, or you buy young for 10-40m.

Obviously adjust for inflation and don’t quote me on these specific numbers in 2059

It was a joke that he was deemed a 70 million striker. I think we can get a championship striker for better price and better performance.

Please, please be true. If we sold him, and bought any player identifying as a ‘striker’ to replace - we’ll almost certainly improve the team. I can’t think of one striker that United could feasibly look at (so excluding Walsall’s centre forward etc) that would not be better than him. Even the strikers we have been linked with that I am NOT keen on are all better than Hojlund I can concede.

Then there’s a chance we could actually sign a really great one too.

If we keep him next season, we are committing to another year of amortization, so the book value we should take into consideration for a transfer this summer is his book value the following summer, which would be about £25m.

would 70m be enough to buy a 18 year old R9 in today transfer market ?

We should never have such definitive rules. We should have paid 70m for Mbappé after his first season at Monaco for example, if the opportunity arose.

Fact is there are no guarantees. Regardless of age, we shouldn’t be spending 70m on any player who hasn’t shown the requisite level of ability. That should be the only rule.

It’s a classic risk and reward situation. A young prodigy who gives you 10 years playing at a high level is cheap for 70m, but to me that is the exception rather than the rule. Buy 20 promising players for that much at a young age, and you’re lucky if 2 or 3 of them reach their potential.

There is a risk with buying a 25 year old who is established and has been consistent for 2-3 years, but it’s not the same level of risk as someone whose upward trajectory you’re gambling on, rather than it being guaranteed
