Looks dead in the water this deal.
We're going after the guaranteed starters first which makes absolute sense. A 9 is very important. But if we sign this guy he's more of a project and will share the center forward minutes with Martial and Rashford. We'll come back to it surely.

Also for the next signing possibly and certainly for the one after that, if there is one, we will need to make sales. Expect (and pray for) departure announcements before more arrivals.

It's crazy how much money we have wasted, which doesn't help the FFP situation at all

Wasted so much money and are horrible at selling. At least if we were decent ats selling we could have gotten half of it back.

55 + 45( GK) + striker would be our in comings.
If we sell McT, then a DM will be signed I guess.
if we can sell Maguire, then a Defender also might be coming in.
I would suggest with new projected record income of £630-640m we could probably do the 3 at £160m without any player sales providing the Glazers agree

I think Onana will come next and Hojlund after. I feel the sell to sign will apply to signings like a back up DM (if we manage to ship out Mctominay) and Cb (if we manage to ship out Maguire).

Like the summer when we finished 2nd and bought Ronaldo, Sancho and Varane. Or when van gal got the schmidfield, Depay and Martial. Or when Mourinho snuck into the ucl through Europa and got Lukaku, Matic and Lindelof. This is a myth thats been peddled for a while on redcafe.
Good point

That's the big question though. The Glazers are busy infighting over the sale because they're all greedy cnuts and all want what's best for them individually. There's no guarantee they'll agree to anything, or if they do it'll take weeks to get them to pay attention.

If they were already gone and we knew we had owners that would greenlight signing both a new ST and a GK we would have bid for Onana already. We wouldn't still be in a 'dialogue' with DDG. EtH obviously wants to replace him, but we're in limbo at the moment so need to keep both options on the hook.

Regardless of if it's Hojlund or not it has gone worryingly quiet on the striker front in general. We seem to be doing that thing where we can only focus on one thing at a time, first it was midfielder and now it feels like we won't her a single thing about a striker until we sort out this GK mess

I think we are just letting Atalanta stew. It was widely reported he would be available for around 40M Euros this summer and yet as soon as were linked they started briefing anywhere from 80M to 100M and you know that would never have happened if Juve came calling.

I think we are just going to concentrate on the easier deals to get done and see if the price settles back down to a more realistic level. I guess it is also possible we are holding off until we can sort some outgoings and maybe even resolve the issue of the sale of the club before we take a serious swing at Kane.

....and that is actually a good sign.

The deal will be done soon, both Højlund and Garnacho will get as good as Haaland/Foden at the same age.

Doubt that's true but encouraging if so.

Goes along with the narrative that Italian media were confused why British press were quoting such high valuations.

Maybe the 85m numbers were just leaked in the press to make us look like good negotiators.

45m euros sounds alot more reasonable.

English media will have it at 145m euros with 800k a week though.

Italian sources are even worse than Portuguese sources.

Not reliable in the slightest unfortunately, but wish it was cause the price is much more reasonable

If true , highly encouraging. Probably will close at 40 m which is inline with our budget. Mount , Onana, and Hojlund is a decent summer. Add a young DM and it would be even better. If the club sale goes through and if we sign Kane it would be a perfect summer.

I think this is not a million miles from the truth. Lots of conversations will, no doubt, be going on that we have no clue about. But we don’t have much money and we are doing things one deal at a time.

Once the Mount deal is fully sorted we will probably get the GK deal wrapped pretty quick whilst trying our best to sell a MF or two. Then we’ll try to get a striker with whatever is left in the pot. Tedious but probably the only way we can proceed.
