Rasmus Højlund | Signed for United

This deal will be done in a couple of weeks. Likely the week before the season starts. Also, he's a 20 year old moving to a new league. Even if signed tomorrow, I doubt he'll be starting the first few games.

ETH only throws in those players straight in the starting 11 who know his style of play, like Antony. For others like Casemiro, you would expect there will be a bedding in period. So I wouldn't expect him to start against Spurs or Arsenal anyway.

Indeed, that is what I said. Ten Hag seems to want his players bedded in, and it will take time for Hojlund to do that, even if a deal is struck this week, which it obviously won't be. Which leaves us with no striker for the start of the season.

And don't say Martial, please.

Also he doesn't seem to know more than players who he had at Ajax, played in Holland or have some kind of connection to him. Its like Pep only signing players from Barcelona, Bayern or La Liga.

Mount - Played against him in Dutch league
Eriksen - ex Ajax
Onana - ex Ajax
Martinez - Ajax
Antony - Ajax
Weghorst - Dutch
Malacia - Dutch
Hojlund - Same agent
Sabitzer - Coached at Bayern
Amrabat - Managed him at Utrecht
I much prefer that safer method, as boring as they might be than signing players that end up falling out with the manager, ruining the dressing room and set us back hundred of millions in transfer fee and wages. The cherry on top is they usually can't be sold or sold for peanuts because the manager doesn't want them.

We won't pay more than 60, Atalanta want 85, but we could reach a compromise if we add a very specific 8.5mill in addons on top which is still way less than the 85 Atalanta are apparently demanding? Why does the British reporting on this transfer sound like utter bull all the time it's so weird

Laurie has been so wide of the mark this summer that it’s actually impressive. No Italian source is quoting anywhere near 100m euros.
His reliability has to be checked after these displays.

Antony MKII if we're paying anything close to £70m.

What exactly is the Sabitzer connection, coached at Bayern, what does that mean?
Also having the same agent with Hojlund is really stretch of a connection.
Eriksen wasnt coached by ETH at Ajax so ex Ajax connection doesnt work either.

Why are these reports one minute in euros and another in pounds? It does muddy the waters a bit.

Of course that'd be great. But I don't think we'd keep Greenwood if we manage to get Hojlund. Else the club would have annouced his return already. Imo the top management are waiting to see if they can get a good #9 before deciding on Greenwood.
I find this strange, there is no scenario in which we're getting a "good #9", at best we're getting a promising but risky prospect in Hojlund. Greenwood leaving puts even more pressure on Rasmus, I don't get why we would be keeping Mason up to this point if the decision has been made to let him go already?

To be honest I think this is just an indication of how much ETH values our existing scouting/recruiting departments - he basically doesn't at all. He knows that not all of the players that arrive will make it and there are so many positions that need improving. He needs to know not only the skills of the player but the mentality, since the team has been mentally fragile over previous years.

Once he has fixed the major weaknesses in the squad and it's more keeping it fresh, I imagine by then we'll see a bit more variation in recruitment. Hell - there is only so many players that he's coached anyway.
None of the coaches trust our scouting department. Its a running theme. They must not be very convincing

Hojlund only changed to that agency a month or two ago, so think you've got that one the wrong way around. He changed due to our interest, rather than our interest having to do with him having the same agent.
fair enough
Eriksen being ex-Ajax has nothing to do with signing him for United.

Neither does Højlund, as he has no connections to Ten Hag, other than just recently signing for the same agency, but that's because he wants this transfer.
Fair enough with Hojlund. Erisken was training with Ajax in 2022 to build up his fitness whilst Eth was coach

how many coaches enjoy success with this method. Liverpool and City have not just signed ex Klopp and Pep players

I'd expect Rashford to start through the middle or indeed even Sancho if he performs well in this false 9 role in the remaining friendlies.

I do expect if Martial can stay fit until the start he may get a start as well, but I won't hold my breath over it.

You might want to look at how many players Klopp regularly signs from Germany.
There’s no harm in signing quality players that you can be more certain of.

The thing here is imo as long as we can get a #9 the board would tell ETH 'hey you got your #9 we'll loan Greenwood out sorry'. And there is no final decision has been made yet afaik. At least until we get Hojlund imo.

Imo it's understandable that the club do not want him to get involve in the next season. Would be a PR nightmare and might damage the commercial activities as well. But he's a 100m talent the club won't want him to end up somewhere else on a free then proceed to become a WC player. So they won't terminate his contract and they're still trying to figure out what to do with him. And it's largely depend on whether we get Hojlund or another #9 (if not Hojlund) imo. It's not strange I think.

Anyway it's too off topic now better get back to Hojlund imo.

Where is Casemiro?

This is neither a simulation or a video game. This is a real life business, not owned by a petrostate. We have enough to secure our targets.
It’s an interesting point of debate and you are sticking to your guns. But, you know, nobody thinks this is a “video game” or “not a real business”.

The simple truth is that it is easier to recruit the best players if you have more money. I don’t see how you can disagree with that.

We might have enough money to secure our targets but guess why those players are being targeted by us? Our budget is dictating this. This is, of course, the same for all clubs, but it doesn’t change the fact that if the budget is higher you have more power to pick and choose.

On a related note, we also need a right back. If we had a bit more money we could get one of them as well!

Seriously, I’m more than happy with what we’re doing in the circumstances but, to go back to the beginning of this, the Glazer ownership does have an impact on our budgets and I’m amazed if you can find anyone who wouldn’t rather have a bigger budget, be it an extra £10m or an extra £100m.

As for Højlund, if he is half as good as Rooney was for us I'd be delighted. Still think it will be done this week, Atalanta will get their replacement in and it will be done.

I love this one haha such a reach! EtH could sign any player in England and that would apply.

Not hating your post @Stacks just made me smile

Let's be honest all of them barring Antony, Licha and Onana are a complete reach and the post is a load of waffle.

Completely agree. Talent hasn't been the issue at Manchester United, its been mentality, discipline and character. Ten Hag bringing in players he knows or has seen up close massively reduces the risk of a signing failing, assures he has players who buy into his system and buys him more time to bed in at the club.

Even if you look at his "worst" signing so far, Antony, he doesnt lack character or effort on the pitch.

Whilst the recruitment, scouting and negotitation teams are being restructured it makes absolute sense for ten Hag to do what he's done.

Thinking about this, we really need someone who is 80-90% as good as Rooney!

I don’t think we’d be chasing him that hard if we had more money but I am still excited if we get him and find out if EtH’s vision for him comes to fruition.

Well, according to Romano, they already signed a replacement. So I think this transfer will accelerate in the coming days

If he's as good as young Rooney when it comes into work rate, has Haaland goal scoring rate and the mentality of Zlatan then he'll be successful.

The reason I'm pointing out it is not a simulation nor a video game is because in real life you can't always get what you want. We have plenty of money and are able to address many of the targets we have. We can't buy everyone we want, that's how it works. City, PSG, Chelsea (and Newcastle) have distorted reality for many people, seemingly forgetting that we live in a world of resource scarcity.

Yes, more money would allow us to buy RB too. But similar to how every club in the world used to operate up until recently, there are fight you fight another day. We are spending more than enough, and have been for a long while.

I see people getting flak for suggesting ETH is only after players he already knows. I think Casemiro is the proof that this isn't necessarily true but at Ajax he did bring in some dead weight from Utrecht. We had to get rid of some Wout Weghorsts ourselves after ETH left.
