This makes alot of sense to me due to the prices being bandied about for the more established forwards. He's still young and will need time and patience, but his versatility to play across the front line makes him a very interesting young prospect and would allow us to sign a Sesko or Ferguson in the future. He also doesn't look like he's 6'3 in height but rather about 5'11. Maybe bringing in someone more established on the cheap alongside Hojlund would be a sensible approach.

There’s 7 the difference there with 30 goals behind Marcus and it’s not as if he didn’t create a lot of his own goals with great movement or runs. It’s a weird discussion to have when one player has over 40 goal involvements and he’s described as not being as creative with a player who isn’t even close to those numbers who plays in the same position.
It’s just fact, Marcus supplies his strike partner. He’s been in the side scoring goals from the left when Ibramovich was on course for 30 goals pre injury, when Bruno, Martial, Greenwood and Bruno were all hitting 20 goals or their abouts.
Rashford creates as well, that’s just how it is. He is incredibly productive.

Nothing to do with United tax. Everything to do with him being 20 and the immense talent he has.
I mean that's my point. Rashford is a forward and he tries to take shots when possible and score goals. He's the fulcrum of our attacking play. He's our Haaland whether he plays centrally or from the left. Grealish's focus is to playmake, to rotate the ball and pick passes, not to shoot from any angle. The shooting is mostly done by KDB and Haaland.
I don't think this is getting particularly deep into the stats mate. Chance creation is a very basic stat and it's just supporting what the eye tells you. That certain wingers are mostly midfielders and playmakers (Grealish and B.Silva fall in that category) and others are primarily attackers like Rashford. City also used to have a forward on the wing in Sterling.

Bear in mind that I barely watched Atalanta so my observation is limited and leans on the type of player that he seems to be and his stats. Hojlund is from what I understand a skilled and big forward who this season registered 8 goals and 2 assists in 1751 minutes in the Seria. From a stylistic standpoint he seems to be an excellent fit and statistically we are talking about someone that averaged a G+A every 175 minutes which is pretty good for his age and far better than anything we have had this season.
Of course he isn't Kane but I don't know if I would label him as only a backup or state that our season would be killed by his presence as a starter. Though I could be wrong.

In any case, i am not against signing him and think he is a good potential striker to have for now as a back up or understudy from the experience ones. But if only himself is bought then i think fans will have a moan when we see him play next year and be who he is (young and raw).
Prices are crazy these days of course but this a bit beside the point. You are paying for potential.
If you could go back in time and sign Harry Kane aged 20 for 55m would you do it, knowing how great a player he becomes? Of course you would. That's the gamble you take with young players.
My point is more that a “first choice striker” isn’t really out there that’s attainable. You either take a chance on a young player, or bring in a veteran that’s not going to do much other than be a placeholder. Kane isn’t happening. Osimhen isn’t moving. Benzema is going to the Middle East. Kolo Muani is a possibility but he’s going to cost a bomb and wouldn’t come with nearly the guarantees of the other three. And past them it’s a lot of underwhelming production or raw talented prospects like Hojlund.
I also think Greenwood will be brought back, which in that case gives two young strikers along with Rashford for different options up front.
Imho, everyone of us knows and want a very good first choice striker next season to progress our transitions under EtH, and we see that we would have hope to challenge a bit more this past season if we have a proper good striker that our club deserve.
So i just want us to invest first and formost in a very good first choice striker. Then we can think about the potential if we still have funds for it.
It wasn't the question. I would definitely take a more seasoned player at a good price but it doesn't mean that anything else leads to some sort of doom or that a player is backup caliber player. In fact I would point out that this is the type of player that may lead to a bargain, he has the tools and seems to be on the up, if he confirms next season, he will immediately cost 50 or 60 mmore millions and people will complain about why we don't target players before their price skyrocket.
Also outside of Kane there is no interesting strikers, it's Kane or the best prospect possible.
Which experienced striker would you like?
My point rather is that if we take potential then maybe we can look at Ramos, Kolo M. (Try to negotiate down a bit from reported fee of 100m and think he is stylistically matching what we play), L. Martinez (inter)...someone that more proven than him if we going to sign only one striker this year.
However if like you say we will bring back M.Gr....then im ok with Hoilund as the other because atleast MG can be considered as experienced of the two.
Could Martinez and Hojlund work if we can't get Kane. I am convinced Osimhen isn't realistically in out thinking due to price
Thuram and him might be a little bit too inexperienced for this summer is my worry
