Obviously not. But to score as a striker, you often need supply, unless you're Agüero or Ronaldo who just dribble through defenders and score. Højlund could have done much more today in terms of forward play, but blaming him for not scoring today is silly.

There were also a couple of occasions in the first half where he held onto the ball for too long instead of releasing it to one of his teammates making a run beyond him. However it feels harsh to be too critical of those moments where he received the ball because it felt like he was given very little to work with.

Just think he has far too many flaws to make it here. He's not effective with the ball at his feet, doesn't have the technical ability to let others play off of him, and is still very raw in learning how to move off of the ball as a striker. Great pace and power and a very good finisher, but that's not enough at this level and we aren't some charity club that just needs to give all these "developing players" time if they can't produce a decent baseline of performances.

All in all, I do feel bad for him with these kind of performances and do think that we need an upgrade. It doesn’t help though when the wingers are also subpar. Maybe I have too much faith in him but I think he could do great with better wingers. He should probably be a back up striker and we should be in the market for somebody at least.

Even when the basics come off they look like such hard work for him, very rarely does it appear smooth and easy. These are the things that concern me, we can discuss service to the end of time but unless you are a Haaland level scoring freak you can not be that one dimensional and technically raw, we have already seen that with guys like Chicarito and Lukaku, yes they could score but they weren't good enough footballers to be long term successes. . A striker who can't get involved in the build up or reliably hold the ball inevitably creates predictability in attacking patterns.
