Rashford out partying at nightclub hours before reporting as too ill to attend training

There's got to be the other side of the story. The reporting is very one sided. Rashford is just an arrogant immature boy and it's all on him? Same as Ronaldo, Sancho and the list goes an went?

Wonder whats going on behind closed doors. From the outside it looks very toxic. Every player becomes the villain over time.

No one at the club forced Ronaldo to go on Piers Morgan. No one forced Sancho to tweet out deflecting blame and questioning the managers' integrity.

And likewise no one has forced Rashford to lie to the club about being ill when actually he was out clubbing, and being stupid enough to be caught on camera doing so.

Ad nauseam but United won't be going anywhere quick unless the club has a complete clear out.
I think, this time, it may actually be happening.

Whatever is happening behind closed doors, Rashford needs to be smart enough to not do what he's just done. The guy is 26 and on his ninth season in the first team squad. It might be a rough patch we are going through, but as one of the senior players he needs to make sure that he doesn't pour additional gas on the fire. He can't do it on the field at the moment (for whatever reason), but you'd expect he could at least keep it professional off it. Apparently not.

Evidence that he lied to the club? As you say, that would be pretty stupid given that he was on camera.

Same applies to his school meals campaign, I'm convinced it will come out in a few years he barely had anything to do with that and all his tweets to MPs were being written by his PR agency - from memory The Spectator or someone tried to do similar but there was a social media pile on as the whole story was so politicised at the time.

I’ll go on record and say that Rashford certainly
DID NOT have anywhere near as much to do with that campaign as the media portrayed him to have - if anything at all.

He was the face/name of it and not a lot else.

In his defence, I would suggest that he is not the only ‘celebrity’ to do something like this - it will be rife for a good bit of PR

The evidence is the backtracking the club had to do because he told them he was ill without telling them he'd been partying a few hours prior.

We need to rid the club of all these unserious jokers. Pogba and Lingard gone. Sancho and Rashford next.

The slow but sure purge of the modern day toxic culture that has plagued the club.

Ten Hag has made many a mistake and is probably going to get sacked but it's a lot easier to sack a manager and let bad eggs remain in the camp. Rashford is on his 6th different manager at this point and with not much to show for it.

His personal stats last season were top class. He hasn't got a Premier League or Champions-League to his name but he's done a lot better than most players in the league and is still young enough to do something about the aformentioned titles. I simply question why there's problem after problem. And most flair players who never had this kind of problems before have suddenly become so-called bad eggs. What's going on here? Sure Ten Hag plays his part, but before his time the atmosphere was toxic already.

Sancho plays game after game for BVB. He just confirms what Rangnick already said, the boy is alright. Ronaldo doesn't seem to have any performance related problems in Saudi. He easily outperforms all the new European players so he's still got it.

From the outside it looks like Ten Hag tried to destroy their professional reputation. If that's the case, not all people will take it, some will feck back. You don't want yes men you want players with personality and pride. These kind of guys get shit done on the big stage.

Don't get whats the problem here. So the player said something back, bohoo, sort it out in private and overall don't isolate them.

Telegraph digging into Ten Hag because he tried to avoid another Sancho situation and was sketchy about Rashford's absence. Reporter (Alan Tyers) then went on to intimate being unfriendly to reporters is likely to cause him trouble in the long run as they would ramp the pressure up on him.

Yeah, Ten Hag is dangling by a thread, but with this kind of bollocks you know Ferguson would have phoned this cnut up or banned him at least.

There is a conceivable scenario where Rashford didn't lie to the club but Ten Hag/the club decided to use the illness story as cover - not knowing the truth would get out.

It doesn't make what Rashford did any better, but at least he wouldn't be in a situation where he flat out lied to his employer about his absence.

You were going well until you did the Ronaldo pub league supporting chant.
Anyhows SAF never did what you suggesting ETH is doing eh? Cough cough Jip Jaap, Roy. Rudd, Kanchelskis. Paul Ince , Beckham etc

Sick of this drama. Just settle the matter internally between the involved parties and move on. Fine him two weeks wages or whatever and close the matter. The club doesn’t need to feed anything out to the media

I think there might already be a agreement in place for him to leave this summer and will probably replace Mbappe at PSG.

He has obviously decided he no longer wants to play at United for the long term and the club will cash in.

He is not stupid, he knows the backlash this would cause and when you still go ahead with it then its fairly obvious he's not bothered about the ramifications.

You don't do that if you think you have a future at United.

I could agree with that theory. It may explain the half arsed efforts this season as he doesn’t want to risk injury, and new contracts mean shit these days. It says it’s another four years but there’s probably some stipulations, clauses and other pre-agreements in there regarding if Team X came in with £Xm minimum, then we would look to honour that.

I‘ve also wondered whether that supposedly juicy new contract was that juicy in the first instance, and whether it was laden with performance based stipulations, meaning he’s not actually on that much as has been reported and it’s rather a figure he could reach if he did well in a year or two.

Nobody will buy them because the logic behind the contracts handed out to both of them (for Rashford, the second consecutive deal) was a "not for sale" statement on behalf of the club. It's amazing that people are angry or wondering why this has happened. It was the only thing that could happen. You offer wages that make players untouchable, they become untouchable. The least you can do is assess them properly and make sure they're worth their salt before you write the cheque. Otherwise, there's little you can do. Sancho is currently getting a full pay to spend 6 months with his mates in Germany, while waiting for the manager to get the sack. That's his punishment. Martial is using United to get fit and sign elsewhere next summer. I suspect Rashford's brother will want to negotiate Marcus' "future role" in the first team (just like Ronaldo used to do, but he was worth the sacrifice). And if we don't comply, we'll have to endure 4 more years of this.

You're speaking to the converted here. I was probably the first here to highlight the lunacy of giving long term contracts to injury prone players (ex Jones) or player with a career threatening illness. If the club wanted to give these players full access to the treatment room then it could do so by giving these players a short contract on normal salary (ex Tommasi at Roma). Alternatively they could help them go into coaching. I always judged players on what they do on the pitch rather then the charity that they do outside and I got absolutely pelted on the Sancho issue mainly for stating the obvious (situation is unsustainable and unless Sancho's performance improve then expect fireworks), Regarding football staff I was always a big supporter of us hiring top people as opposed to former players and chancers. They understand the football world and won't be taken for a ride as the likes of Murtough does. I always highlighted the risk of us having players who only turn up when their contract was expiring as well.

Yet this is different. Rashford is on a long term contract and on silly salary. If he starts venting against the club while concurrently digging his heels to stay here unless he gets what he wants then we're fecked. Thus we need to act smart this time round. Lets us deescalate the issue, let's hire people who can find a way out of this mess (ie through a transfer) and then lets sell him in the summer. No one should be bigger then the club. Ronaldo, RVN and Kanchelskis left because of that and they were 10 times the player this guy is

Unfortunately, I doubt the club want to sell him. They concocted the lie about him being ill as an attempt to hide the actual truth. This tells me that they want to keep him. They should have just called him out on it straight away.

And he had different type of personalities to work with as well. From a boomer who likes sexual innuendos, the us vs the world kind of manager, nice cops/nice cops combo (Ole & Mike Phelan), a consultant german dad, and now a cryptocurrency. So he has exhausted all possible options. As the old saying goes 'if everyone is a prick, you are the prick'.

It's funny that he starts acting like a dickhead when the manager's under pressure but when a new one comes in that won't be sacked immediately he won't be able to mask bad performances with bad managerial decisions.

absolutely - he also doesn't have the goals/performances to add weight to his name like he might have gotten last season.

Damning.

You're only allowed to have a personal life if you win, is that it?

When you lose, what, go home and sulk for three days? Give yourself 30 lashings for your malfeasance?

This concept that grown men shouldn't be allowed to compartmentalize their lives because they kick a ball for a living is just absurd.

Don't let your personal life affect your ability to perform ahead of the match, yes, but if that's a standard they're gonna be held to, then the inverse must be true as well. Once you leave the stadium you must put that match behind you and get on with your life. As long as you're ready for the next training session, live and let live.

I'd have told the manager what I do on my personal time after a match is none of his goddamn business.

Sancho confirmed what every other manager has said about him - he trains like shit and has serious issues.

Nothing to do with ETH. He didn't put Ronaldo on Piers Morgan or write Sancho's tweets for him. They acted like ignorant cretins and the end results were inevitable. How they perform on the pitch before or after is irrelevant.

Ironic you mention words like personality and pride in a thread about Rashford, who, like Sancho, has neither.

If he hadn't done the lunches during COVID he would be gone already. Kid was living off a piece of nice PR, but that's all over now.

Are people pretending to be thick here?

Its irrelevant whats in the media the manager of Man Utd shouldn't be contradicting the club and confirming a negative story about one of his players.

Well it's been flying for the entire 18 months he's been at the club. So instilling discipline in this group of players is maybe beyond ETH. And speaking about private club matters publicly isn't likely to have any positives for the club.
Maybe he’s just laying the seeds of giving fans something to be upset about so there isn’t an uproar when we sell him

The thing that annoys me about this is how so many people keep referring to Rashford as the 'figurehead' of the club, the player with the highest profile....the most important player at the club......yet for UNITED fans with their eyes open who have watched his inconsistent performances over the last 3 seasons can see he is everything but the main man..... ive seen him sulk about not trying for 9 months for OLE and RR , come to life in ETH's first season to get his new contract and then go back to this sulking demeanour again this season..... how is this guy worthy of being held in such high regard.? How is this acceptable to us the fans ? Its player power of the highest degree.

He feels he is untouchable and can do what he wants because he is a local lad on a massive contract and this latest stunt should hopefully speed up his deserved exit.
No one is bigger than the club, get Rashford out and rebuild.

Quite honestly he could go this week for me if we had the forward line depth of other sides. This is now his THIRD wrong action in 12 months.

The club can’t afford to isolate him like they’ve done with Sancho, we simply won’t score enough goals without him. In the summer if we can get a great fee it’s potentially worth moving him on, but for now Ten Hag needs to do exactly what he’s said, deal with it internally.

He has to fined by the club and be kept out of the team for 2/3 games at least.

He's p*ss poor since July, brings nothing and is not making any effort.

If he wants to leave then go ! We have lost Beckham, Keane, Stam, Van Nistelrooy, Fergie wanted to sell Rooney when he was almost at his peak etc... Rashford is absolutely nothing compared to them, won nothing and is only a selfish player.

Let's cash in with his and Sancho transfer (+others) and rebuild a healthy dressing room.

Can you just confirm the other two for those of us who can’t recall them? I’m assuming that you aren’t including being late for training once as that would be ridiculous!

Is he really that smart, I highly doubt it. Especially if he believes that the fanbase are going to be upset at not having to see him run into hundreds of dead ends every game, hardly ever looking up to pass the ball at 26 years of age.

The sad thing about this whole situation is players like Rashford who come through the academy have bred such a bad attitude. As a boy he would have given his right leg to play for United and now million of pounds later he can't even be bother to track back, run or turn up to training. Sad state of affairs with the only correct decision is to sell him for as much £'s, a.s.a.p.

How is ten Hag getting blamed for this? Its his job to enforce rules not lie for the ones who break them. Rashford was on the wrong path long before ten Hag arrived.
Because everyone dislikes him now so he gets blamed for everything.

Missing that meeting which led to him being on bench against Wolves. Going out after we had lost 3-0 to City. Yes it was his birthday but surely he could have had people round instead.

The problem with some modern players however is that they fail to take the necessary sacrifices to be a top level performer.
I don't really want to get into the weeds of Rashford's night out post City because I see both sides. However, what I will say is, when you're asking for a bumper new contract you must be prepared to make the necessary sacrifices and put in the hard yards. Rashford has not done this both on the pitch and off it.

If we can get 120m for Sancho and Rashford in the summer, we should take it.
