Rashford out partying at nightclub hours before reporting as too ill to attend training

Great attitude that.
I can’t wait to see the back of him. I can take this shit if he puts in a shift. But the bloke just walks all over the pitch.
I think he's irreversibly damaged his reputation with the fans this year. He's supposed to be a senior voice in the changing rooms at this point, especially when you consider his wages, and yet he's acting like he's a youth team player still.

I can only hope that INEOS have made it clear to everyone on a big contract that they'll be sold if they don't perform, and I'm basing that on the noise around certain players leaving or not having their big contracts renewed after being poor for an extended period of time.

Adds nothing to the discussion
He needs to be burnt, and publicly too as a warning to the rest of the squad and any new incomings that things are changing around here.
The kind of thing that redcafe posters live for..... Until the inevitable backfire. Then onto the next underperformer/scapegoat!

Groundhog Day

It's indefensible, a shocking attitude and lack of respect for his position. The club is in a right old mess with this because he is on a stupid contract so it is going to be extremely difficult and costly to the club to shift him, and Rashford knows this.

I'm not sure selling him is the big threat ye all seem to think it is. There would have to be a carrot there for him to agree.

I've been so sick of Rashford for so long.

He's been allowed to get away with so much for so long by multiple managers that I'm not at all surprised by stuff like this now.

He's detrimental to the team and the club and he shouldn't play for us again.

Perhaps we need to add 'recalibrating the club's relationship with its fans' to Ratcliffe's ever increasing list of necessary improvements. The disrespect particularly to match going fans is as poor as our performances and the two aren't mutually exclusive, it's one thing to play poorly but to play poorly and offer no effort on and off the pitch is unacceptable.

I don’t care if he was in a nightclub on Thursday night but even if he was deathly ill on Friday, you come in to training - you can go sit in a jacuzzi for 3hrs if you’re unable to train.

The real stupidity here is in letting the media get a negative story when your entire season so far has been negative after negative.
He apparently did come in to training. His flight landed before 8am. The fact he apparently reported, but wasn’t able to train, suggests it might be a minor injury rather than sickness?

“But ETH clearly said he was ill.” Yes, but this wouldn’t be the first time ETH has confused sickness and injury by saying players have been “ill” in a press conference this season. Happened with at least three other players at other times this season alone. They talk about this nearly every other week on the Talk of the Devils podcast, how the manager uses “ill” as a catch-all for players not being available.

Who else could we sign for his wages and the transfer fee we would receive for him?

ViniJr/Mbappe/Son/Leao/Mitoma/Chukwueze

Or use the money on a striker instead and leave the left wing for Garnacho as the starter.

Ohsimen/Schick/Toney

Either way I think it's time we cashed in and sold him to PSG. I think they go for it and give him Mbappes place in the lineup.

Do you think they’d find a buyer though? Haven’t United just put him on 300k+ per week in order to keep him long term?

PSG are probably the only ones I can see pulling a deal off, especially if Mbappe leaves

However I think any new manager would want to keep Rashford. Complicated personality but if you tap into him you have a top class player

I think that psg ship has sailed.

Firstly you need to find someone to buy him, and then the player has to agree.

Not really much of a threat.

its not just Rashford, the club have rewarded mediocrity for years.

Even with the Sancho situation. If reports are true the players are probably looking on and seeing Sancho rewarded with a loan to a team still in the champions league and paying part of his wages. I know from the clubs point of view they will spin it with long game and trying to increase value with the clubs FFP issues. The club should if tried to make an example of him.

The main thing for me is that it demonstrates what we have long suspected. Lack of determination and application.

It's often visible on the pitch, but I'm generally wary to assume it as truth as it could be a mix of other factors fans aren't aware of (tactical instructions to conserve energy, personal issues or playing through injury for example). But it's increasingly apparent over time, and the off field stuff just reinforces what people have been saying for years.

Difference now is we actually have Garnacho, so Rashford's (largely undeserved) status as untouchable is no longer a thing. The squad is one genuine starting RW away from Rashford being a bench player. Mount can also play LW and provide more control. Youngsters like Pellistri, Amad, Hannibal, Gore etc on the fringes looking to break through (to varying degress of likelihood and like-for-likeness). Rashford leaving seems like much more of a possibility in the not so distant future than it ever has before. And rather than fighting tooth and nail to turn things around, it seems like Rashford is content with that outcome.

I think we need to move him on. We need to make a statement saying it’s unacceptable and the player is suspended/for sale. It’s just completely unacceptable.

Losing Rashford and Martial over the coming 6 months will be the best start INEOS could make. The standard needs raising and Rashford has shown both on and off the pitch that his attitude is terrible.

Get rid, remove him from the squad.

Maybe he shouldn't have agreed to giving Rashford new contract with £350K/week just because Rashford had 6 good months after being horrible all 2022/2023 season. Maybe he shouldn't have agreed on signing Antony for £86m, while nobody will even pay half that if we wanted to sell him just 1.5 years later. Maybe he shouldn't have kicked De Gea out to sign a trainwreck like Onana for £43.9m.

Too many maybes. Sure, he was surrounded by morons and had to cosplay multiple roles in addition to being an actual manager, but he was part of many feck-ups. He doesn't get to blame shit we are in entirely on others

What a thoroughly stupid post

No, my friend, you simply don't get it. If only one of Howe, Potter, De Zerbi or Ange were here... they would have made this all go away with their charisma, their linguistic skills and their ability to organize "happy-time" training sessions. There's simply no way a culture that allows employees to financially max out while delivering the bare minimum will breed individuals who will act like children and mentally check out the moment they're asked to step outside their comfort zones. All it takes is a little convincing, or so the Caf is telling us.
We need to go away from pretenders, tiktokers, instagramians that have been in our club for far to long. It might hurt us in short run but in a longer run, it would be good for the club. Sell them all. Until then, fine them all for everything that goes against club or normal human behaviour. They behave like children that lack everything in terms of being good employees. Non grateful, zero character, no passion or desire and disrespecting the ones who gives them salary.

Fine them every week. Let money stay in the club. Let it hurt in their wallets and lets see if their game will rise. People talk about Glazer taking out money. The amount of money lot of our pretenders have taken is shocking.

It’s a show of disrespect to his teammates and us fans who count on him if it is true that he was out the night before training in Belfast.

But did the manager/club allow him to stay at home?

Plus sections of the British media don't need an excuse to run a negative story about Man Utd and especially Rashford.

Ten Hag is in dire need of some media training it has to be said.

That would be insane considering he could infect others - depending not the type of illness of course. You don't go in anywhere if you're ill with something contagious. That said, Rashford is a fecking idiot for going out clubbing - and should be punished accordingly.

It's as if he wants me to dislike him even more than I already do. Just get rid.

If he was ill due to being out the evening before as someone said a session in the sauna would have done him good. If he was actually ill, then no way would he be allowed to stay around the squad.

What I think should happen

1) Rashford apologises
2) out of the squad for a few matches
3) return to the bench
4) Rashford keeps his head down and trains well

Could be a blessing in disguise this:
Hopefully, this will be the start of him getting sold. Any funds, like Greenwood too, are good for FFP. Rashford is easily replaced and wages will be half of his.
He won’t be missed. This season alone should serve as reason that he’s way too inconsistent to continue to start for us. Bruno will stay and he’s too inconsistent also - can’t afford to have 2 of them starting.
Unfortunately, I think he comes out and apologises and gets back in the side. His poor season continues and we are back to square one.
