I agree with your first part but as for the bolded? I don't think you'll find many people in agreement with you.

Not on this forum, no. I’m comfortable with my opinion though. A list of the better left wingers in the world would be very short.

Selling him in this window is one of the worst ideas I’ve ever heard. We don’t have enough forwards, one of the ones we do have is permanently injured and another is currently absent with unspecified personal issues. We’d have to sell him, find a replacement at a cost likely to be circa £100 million (with clubs knowing we were desperate) and then pay them at least £300,000 a week, as well as finding a CF to replace Ronaldo as well.

If we were to look to offload him, we should be quietly identifying a replacement for the summer, getting that deal agreed now and then looking to sell in the summer. That in itself is madness as he’s one of the best left wingers in the world and I don’t see who we could obtain who wouldn’t be a downgrade but that seems to be the preference of this forum.
We’re idiots if we pay anyone that much.

The number of players who deserve that much are very very low and basically unattainable.

Rashford needs a pay cut or at least a heavily performance incentivised contract. He’s been woeful for the majority of his current contract and getting a pay raise would be a fecking joke.

Rashford is not getting a pay cut either at Man Utd or any club he moves too. It won't happen.
The best you can hope for is him accepting some more incentives and keeping his same wage he has now.

Keep hearing rumours about hm going to PSG. If we could let them have him and £200m and get Mbappe, I'd say sell in a heartbeat! Unlikely I know but if Rashford is considering moving away then I'd say let him go. He will never be the no.9 we need

Can’t see him wanting to move. He’s very close to his family, has strong connections to the local area and continues his charity work.

Just don’t see it.

But that's fine, isn't it, if we don't expect him to be and don't play him as a 9? I think it's brilliant to see this renaissance. Early days, for sure, and it won't all be puppies and rainbows from hereon, but the signs are good. As a local lad that came through the ranks I'd love to see him succeed more than most alternatives.

Mbappe wouldn’t even contemplate moving to us.

Sometimes people overrate the attraction factor of this club.

No, people constantly under play the attraction of our club meanwhile we sign some of the biggest names in the game or even the lesser known players who fans tell us we missed out on because team x /y/ z are now in for them

Quite the opposite

See Casemiro

I mean sure but look at Frenkie De Jong.

Casemiro was like 30 when he joined us.

If we want Mbappe at 30 - sure I can believe that but Mbappe at 23?

No not really for me.

Maybe once the Arabs buy the club maybe then we can at least match the wage- let’s wait and see.

I’d happily let it happen but not getting my hopes up.

De Jong was open to joining however the issue with his wages prevented it.

Varane is another example.

The attraction of the club is constantly downplayed since Sir Alex but you only need to look at the signings to see that’s not the case.

It may be true but I see no evidence of this and think it unlikely without UCL and a year of Barca bench. Even then Chelsea seemed more likely.

Speaking for the 14.8% who voted to keep Rashford I think everything we say on this thread shoud automatically be treated as unquestionably right from now on. It's only fair.

worth a try. you never know what drives him - and City must surely be out of the running unless football become 14 a side! (I wouldn't argue that Madrid are favourites)

are people on here crazy??? swap for Mbappe I mean I get annoyed with people calling out FM posts but seriously some people been smoking some powerful stuff on this board.

Unless Rashford refuses to sign a new contract or states that he wants to leave, why would you even contemplate it? if he was at another club 90% of the posters here would have pre-jizzed over themselves at the prospect of signing him.

As for wages unless we fire everyone and start again I am afraid that it is not as simple as getting rid of one player if they refuse to reduce their inflated wages, there is a bigger problem with all those players that are on 40k instead of 10k, 80k instead of 20k etc... and lets face it the only thing that has been attractive about Utd post SAF is the wage levels, take that away and we are next to useless in attracting players, ok if ETH achieves some success then we may be able to start bringing in players on lower wages but it is going to be a long process.

The other thing with wages that annoys me, everybody moans about players on too high wages but I would rather the money go to the players than the Glazers which is the realistic alternative.

Agree with that ;)

Honestly. Can we not restart the pool? Would be really interesting to see the result now.

How could anyone in their right mind want shot of him? A lot of top level clubs would love to have him in their squad.

He had a shocking 12-18 months, largely down to physical injury, burning out/being overplayed, plus some mental health issues as well, which he has spoken about.

This season he has been brilliant, he looked good in the WC and should have been used more, and was on fire in the first game back. He's 25, and about to hit his peak. I'm not sure who some people want to compare him to, but I agree with the poster above, we won't find any better left winger, at his age, without seriously breaking the bank on both transfer fee and wages. Plus he's one of our own?! Get behind the lad ffs! Plenty of other gaps in the squad, players to move on, before Marcus even comes near the equation.

Agree. When he's physically and mentally fit he's a very good player. Most teams would want him. If we can keep him without giving him Sancho level wages we should do that.

I don't think it's feasible paying good players WC wages or it just sets a precedence. With Sancho on 350k Rashford is well within his rights to ask for the same. Antony has a good season then he'll be asking for parity. Martial to re-sign will be asking the same and we're stupid enough to give it to him.

It's time to get the wage bill under check. Rashford would be a great place to start.
Agree. We should offer 50k a week more and add more to the gametime bonuses, appearance, goals scored, assists, team wins etc. In fact if we did this with every player we would win more games.

Wow. First time entering in this thread and I'm seriously shocked at the result. No patience and support for our own players. Terrible.

It's one thing what we think, but it's probably the manager that has the biggest say and I can't imagine he is wanting shot of Rashford given his comments and use of him. I don't really see that happening. If the manager tells the club to make sure a deal is done it is probably going to get done, even if it is for what fans believe is an inflated pay packet. Most likely scenario is prolonged negotiation and he eventually signs.

I'd probably go with what the manager thinks as well, he sees his attitude around the club, his performances, he has all the facts. If he says we've got a better chance of success with Rashford in our squad for the long term I'd go with that, his business so far has been shrewd enough.

I don’t know how people can’t see Rashford ‘s struggles have all been down to never getting proper top level coaching before. See Bruno, Dalot, Martial for other examples.

Rashford even his decision making has improved massively… in the past he’d never have laid off that chance to McTominay.

We all know Ole left it to free-styling in the attacking front and Rashford never even learned how to head the ball till ETH specifically recruited someone to train them.

Not just under coached but also burnout and being overplayed along with this extracurricular political activities no doubt took a toll on his performances

It’s honestly mental isn’t it, I haven’t seen a single United player for YEARS before the hag EVER look better for us than they did before they signed us, they just never seemed to develop and kick on.

Our desperation to keep him should be matched by his desperation to sign a new deal and stay. That would mean he won’t be asking for £350k a week, he’ll be realistic and know the going rate.

If not. Then the only way to stop the club paying ridiculous wages to players who have not deserved it is to let him go. Not something I want but if that’s what it takes for the longer term good.

How will losing him to someone like psg who will pay what he wants be “good for the long term”

PSG made Mbappe something akin to sports director and 6 months later he still wanted to leave. So PSG are not some yard stick.

For the long term? If you need to ask then you don’t know where we are and where we’ve been for the past 8 years and people’s perception of us.

£350k is more or less the going rate though. Does he not deserve the same pay as Sterling and Sancho?

Yeah, it's tough to argue against this. Rashford had some good seasons considering our team wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders.

People act like he'd be easy to replace, but goals from out wide are damn near impossible to find. Even if he's just Calleon with speed that's still 15 league goals a year from a wide position, and a real threat in big games where we play higher lines.

If he wants to stay, then you sell Sancho if you have to in order to afford it. Much easier to find a clever 10 goals and 10 assists kind of LW (Gapko might be on the team by next week, and even someone like Trossard could hit that for a well run United) than someone with Rashford's goal threat and pace from out wide.

Fair play to Rashford for turning it around. Nobody was good last season but he looked fundamentally broken. I really wasn't sure he'd return to any sort of level for us. Ten Hag has done a great job with him.

Do you think if City had signed Sancho he’d be on £350k per week there? I doubt even Sterling was on £350k per week at City, but he’s one of the most successful players in the past decade, so to go from City to Chelsea the pay rise was justified.

United confirmed they have triggered the 1 year extension on Shaw, Dalot, Fred and Rashford. Players don't typically get a wage upgrade when they have a extension triggered do they? Also those numbers suggesting he's the highest earning English player seem off considering even on the low end of the reported wages Sancho and Sterling are on more than 250k.

Thought it seemed like bollocks.

So, they're publishing barefaced lies as fact, then?
