Way too early to make a decision on any player based on performances in the early stages of the World Cup. Iran, Wales & the USA are two to three levels down from England.

He's always been an excellent player who dips in form the way most attackers do. Selling (unless for some crazy Neymar fee) would be a ridiculous decision today as it would have been at the beginning of the thread.

How about waiting until the end of WC to evaluate? Or even better, wait until the end of this season to evaluate?

The knee-jerk reactions on both sides are really funny.

Not sure i ever want to know what happened last season:lol:
Marcus was just one of many players that looked like they were attending a funeral instead of a game of football.
Back to his normal self again. Still makes a fair few mistakes here and there but he is a player that can change the course of any game.
Few players have that in their locker. Glad he is ours!

Yeah which is why it's crazy for Rashford or anyone to be singled out based on last season (and I say that as someone who was really pissed off with him last year)

It also shows why Rangnick was a joke, skilled tactician or not he managed to destroy the mentality of an entire dressing room. We had more than enough quality to finish top 4 and deliver way beyond the 38% win rate or whatever he had, they just downed tools because the relationship with him was so unbelievably poor.

They'd already downed tools before Rangnick. We did better under him that we did under Ole last season. Quite a few players actually improved once he came in. Certainly not all, but some did.

Yeah, feels rather pointless to single out players, agree. Even if they all, of course, carry a lot of responsibility for that clusterfeck of a season.

Even if the appointment of Rangnick was a mistake, the players looked miserable and disinterested way before he came in to the dressing room.
Quite clear there were more stuff going on behind the scenes.

He's doing quite well. Lets still see if he can actually be consistent again in a United shirt.

Rashford is a true potential for the ages. I truly believe he can do magic on the pitch if he is coached properly. He's been running at defenders without a clue for the past few seasons. He needs to keep a clear head and make use of his pace and power like Mbappe does. Sad I have to compare him to a player younger than he is..

I think Rangnick was shite too but that mentality was long gone before he arrived. Solskjaer is the one who obliterated it.

Glad I was in the 14%.

Same. Rashford is a classic example of a player that needs to work with a top coach. Bringing in ETH was always going to be the making of a few of our underperforming players and the end of some of our overrated ones. Further underlines what a footballing disaster Ole actually was, with so many players getting worse under his watchful eye.

I don't think it is the mainstream media, they tend to like him. It's just caf hipsters and I bet there's a lot of overlap with the people who don't like Bruno either.

Bruno hasn't been much this season for us but I think he will shine now that Ronaldo has gone. Ronnie II was all the Glazer footballing dysfunctionality manifested in one human being.

I just can't understand how Rashford is so overrated on here and in the media. He hasn't played a decent first half of football in the last 2 seasons and has played well in 4 second half appearances during that time. He was fortunate yesterday to be playing against Championship Level defenders. He didn't even need to go the free kick above the wall he just needed to get the shot on target.

Leave the contract till the end of season and see what his stats and play has been all season. As others have said he been ok for Utd and decent for England, but the amount of games ok compared to the last couple of seasons where he was awful, isnt a big enough timescale to see if its sustainable long term.

Yeah it's mostly world cup nonsense. Everyone got overcaffeinated by Bellingham, then demanded Foden and now Rashford is everything. But he is playing better since ETH came along and he had a proper pre-season. If he gets over-used like Ole did then he might be back to square one with his confidence and health. He is basically better than Sterling though.

He’s a decent squad option, but no way is he getting into the top sides starting 11. He’s just too inconsistent.

I’d leave it up to him, offer him 120k a week (the same as what Martinez is apparently on) or say on your way.

Maybe it would be an idea to put performance related add ons in there.

With your username you’ve got a cheek

Come across like a bitter Pogba fanboy the like you’d see on twitter, not a Utd fan at all.

it's actually a good time to sell him to PSG for 100M + .

Let's admit it. With his technical skills level, this is his prime time and he has achieved his potential ceiling. with that, he is still performing very inconsistent and you can't really rely on him as the core to win back the title. He could be just one injury away to go back to ground zero of his form like last season, or fade away like Sterling slowly when his physicals degraded.

Similar style but better technical wise, Gakpo would be a good replacement with lower price and higher ceiling of potential.

I hope he is making good use of this winter World Cup to work his magic on Sancho then who has been so disappointing. Psychologically it must be hard for him following England on TV so ETH needs to work on his mindset aswell as his football and fitness.

Gakpo is going to cost 100m in the current market if he continues to keep scoring on the center stage that is this winter WC.

He's played against two championship teams, he's got his goals, fair play to him, but this in no way should have any bearing on him being in a Utd shirt long term or not. Maguire has been half decent in the WC so far for christ sake!

No decision should be made until the season is done imo.

Okay. Lets assume he wont accept 120k a week because that seems likely since he is on higher wages now. Rashford leaves on a free.

Manchester United needs to replace Rashford. Players who are at Rashford his level are costing atleast 40m i would imagine. Certainly if Manchester United is interested in that player. Gakpo would be an excellent replacement since he fills in the same role at LW and CF and he will cost even likely will cost even more than 40m. Will Gakpo accept 120k a week or is he deserving of more? Im not even sure if Gakpo is better than Rashford.

Rashford might not be a world class player but he has specific qualities that make him very good in certain tactics (speed and decent finishing in counter mostly) and he is a good enough player in a non-counter tactic. He certainly is better than just a ''decent squad option'' like he is some John O'Shea.

Need to flog him while his stock is high, busted flush of a player. Use the money to get Toney or Choupo-Moting instead.

Why on earth would PSG want to add to their front 3 with another player that would expect to start right now?

It's an interesting point that few have dwelled upon. World cups have historically advantaged teams whose style suits the heat and whose national team players have enjoyed a winter break. Neither of those factors are at play this time so England might suddenly look a lot stronger than we have historically.

On your main point, I'm sure Sancho will be fine. He's had to adjust to a lot in a short period of time. But he's shown his quality.

How much have you watched of Gapko to come to that conclusion then? And how exactly would it be a lower price? Rashford would be on the higher wage but Gapko would cost 50m+ and probably looking at 150k a week too.

Rashford ceiling is comfortably higher than Gakpo’s.
You come across like a bitter Rashford fanboy on Twitter. He is an average player with pace and little else to his game.

You know, since we are making completely unfounded statements and there's no need to back them up, I thought I'd fight fire.

I reckon a performanced based contract. I would shot other wide players we have before Rashford because at least he TRIES to pose a threat where as our others just pass back to the nearest man. Definately should not get an increase. If PSG come with 85/90 mill it may be too good to turn down. We will be taking a risk though

Chill out guys a few scruffy goals versus a shite goalkeeper and a Championship level team is not worth the hype. Even average players like Kramaric and Enner Valencia bagged a brace at this World Cup. Did he play well apart from the goals?
