Want him as much as I wanted him two hours ago.

Those who think he's only worth a pittance (with that year left) or think he's massively overrated, are you fine with seeing him joining Chelsea?

Yep. He's not better than Thiago Silva or Zouma.

Poor mans Chris Smalling for nearly two years now.

Everytime I watch him it’s the same opinion. Then 1 bright spark says it’s only 1 game. These only 1 games are adding up

Hasn’t been helped by woeful partners at the back. They’re are ageing and don’t have the pace anymore so are making up with experience. Chelsea’s forwards are fitter, younger and quicker but having said that Varane has coped well in very difficult conditions.

Rather him than Lindelhof. God knows what he would have done in that rain
Lindelof has faced those “fit, young and quick” Chelsea players 2 times this season and it was 2 clean sheets. Nothing to complain about.

Thought Varane was below average today and too passive and confused at the goal.

People need to consider Varane is quite alot faster than both Linda and Maguire, which means we can push higher up, and it also means we probably dont need 2 midfielders shielding our defense. Oh, and we wont have any problem with physical strikers , ever. Or set pieces for that matter.

You seen him win a foot race recently?

I think you overestimate Varane’s capacity.

As i said regularly, son't want him. He is good, but he is not getting better and has looked more miss than hit in recent years. Especially without Ramos for Real, he is missing a leader next to him to guide him. He is not the saviour

Havent looked at him at la Liga but last year and this one have been terrible for him in the UCL. Funny thing is that his worst performances have come against EPL opposition, last year against City was a shit show and tonight against Chelsea was another one, wouldnt touch him with a stick, seems as he's only living out of his fame.

Fine if you think a CB like VL is what’s needed to propel us forward. Personally neither he nor Varane are the answer IMO

Because of one good defender? Doubt it. Especially since Maguire usually looks like a confused mentally challenged child when he needs to defend one.

The defending for Pulisic's goal was absolutely comical. Both him and Nacho stood at goal like mannequins.

Crazy that he's a 4-time CL + 1-time World Cup winner. Very good defender but has been lucky to be a part of great sides in my opinion.

It's Varane or Kounde for me - Kounde has potential to be world class, is younger and has immaculate positional sense.

I still think Varane is the one I'd go for though with his height, ball playing ability and experience.

Lindelof is very underrated here. That's all I can say.
Well why do we play two defensive midfielders who's job is to just sit in front of him and maguire then? Then that forces us to ludicrously play pogba on the wing etc.

He is slightly underrated in fairness. I think he's stuck with that label of having an error in him, however with Victor it's probably justified, see the latest error against Spurs just the other week.

That said he and Maguire do have spells where they are good together, then have disastrous spells like earlier in the season where we went god knows how many games without keeping a clean sheet. He also has constant back issues.

Either way it would only be a huge boost for us to get a world class CB to partner Maguire. I think Varane is a level above.

You think Ole changes his entire structure to facilitate Lindelof? When Bailly has been fit, (a CB who is rapid) Lindelof is still preferred.

Under rated? He's doesn't excel at anything.

Is he quick? No
Is he strong? No
Is he good in the air? No
Is he a leader? No

The only aspect of Lindelof's game that is adequate or better is that he's pretty decent on the ball most of the time. That's about it.

His positioning is usually quite good. And in the few games he has played without Maguire he has commanded the backline quite decently.

It's not like he's a world class player, but a very useful player who I'd like to keep as 3d option even if we buy a new one.

it's not about pace. I think he doesn't trust Lindelof and Maguire without two watercarriers 5-10 yards in front of them. If we sign someone to do Fred and mctominays job then it would be a start. Until then we will play for the odd chance/moment of brilliance and will end up with many 0-0's as we've seen this season.

Varane has looked ropey the last few times I've watched him. Possibly something that could be remedied by a change of environment but it's enough to make you question the merits of a move. In some respects I do think Kounde would be the safer bet.

I do think we’d be better going for a younger CB not a Varane type who’s ending his career
Ending his career? He is 28!
For heavens sake he is in his prime. We don’t need a 21 year old that needs time. This guy is the finished article. Weird comment

I'm interested to know why you think he doesn't trust them?

He actually played well yesterday. Because Chelsea had chances doesn’t equate to him playing poorly.

How much pace has he lost? Is he still quicker than our defenders?

Also we have only scored 9 goals in speedy Baillys 7 PL matches so there is nothing to support the theory that we would score more goals with Bailly because of his speed. It has actually been the opposite.

What?! He’s 28 for crying out loud. He has 5 years left at the top.

He is a younger CB, he’s literally coming into his prime years now. Modern football fans have a weird thing about discarding players once they get past about 26 which I’ll never understand. The prime years for centre backs are 28-32.

He’s a very good footballer but I don’t think he’s a very good centre back. He lacks all of the physical & aerial attributes needed, particularly in the PL. The type who would look mustard in La Liga for Barca then get exposed badly in the CL.
