He was fantastic the other night and I am loving how much pride this back 4 are taking in making defensive contributions. Fecking love it. Just please for the love of god stay fit so we don’t have to see Maguire back in the line up.

Man Utd 3:1 Arsenal
Him and martinez did really well considering they didn't have a midfield for half the match. They had the second best attack against them today and only conceded one under huge pressure. For me both great.

Poor today I felt. He was never comfortable with Jesus and even for the Martinelli goal that was chalked off I felt he should have been much quicker to peel off to the right to prevent Martinelli getting the run on him.

Jesus is one of the best players with their back to goal in the league yet he didn't give him a chance on goal. How is that a poor performance? Also using a disallowed goal against him aswell? Are you serious?

Well yeah....obviously. The goal being disallowed is irrelevant because it wasn't disallowed for something that happened to him so his actions in the situation are fair game to analyse. I'm sure EtH will be taking a look at it certainly. And Jesus is hardly peak Drogba.

He was great today. Been very solid these last few games. Hopefully he'll play like this for the full season with no injuries.

I'm surprised by the extent to which Gabriel Jesus dominated both of our CBs. Varane found it far more difficult than I would have expected.

He was marking Jesus in that play, Martinelli ran from behind Dalot who was caught out.

Nothing Varane could've done there.

Another solid game overall. Yes, some mistakes will happen but overall, no complaints

He was shaky and that means our whole defence slipped down a level. Yet he was better than Martinez imo, we got lucky on occasion today.

Not quite at his best but I felt his first half performance was very solid.

Gabriel Jesus switched to Martinez side later on in the game as he wasn't getting much impetus off Varane even when Arsenal had some 80% possession.

Jesus isn't gonna get 25 goals but he's world class at bothering CBs. Just isn't a job City needed done because they have the ball all the time.

Jesus was dangerous but I wouldn't go that far that he dominated our CBs.

I swear you would think Jesus had 5 shots and created 5 others if you listened ti Gary Neville in commentary and some of you in here.

Jesus did all of his “domination” Outside our box. Exactly where we wanted him to be.

Thought it was another solid performance from him although it was a misplaced pass from him that led to the equaliser for Arsenal. Hopefully him and Martinez can stay fit.

He's getting there as a Utd player, agree Jesus got better of him at times though

Looked a bit edgy all match I thought but everyone has off days and he’s been great recently. Just pleased he’s managing to stay fit.

Struggled to get the ball away from Jesus who was extremely physical with the tussling and grabbing.

Solid game overall though.

Any defender is in difficult situation to deal with fast player making diagonal run with someone else on the other side.

Best CB playing for Manchester United since Vidic left, and that is by far. He brings the calmness for the other 3 in that back four and also for DDG, to focus on them self and do their job. Strikers try to avoid him. Last 2 seasons with Maguire and Lindelöf we had opponents marking them and almost expecting them to make a mistake. Maguire made his teammates doubt not only him but even their our defending because his mistake made them get in situations that shouldn't happen on this level. That doesn't happen often with Varane. He is the one that will help you if you make a mistake.

He has still at least 5 more years to give for us, and Martinez 10. It's like we got 2 new CBs this year because he was so often injured last year. Basically we have a new back four, Dalot have been the first choice before this season and was also on loan to Milan. They will just get better as they play more games together. What a difference it is from the last seasons.

Dalot is good and gets the job done, just needs to be aware of whats happening behind him.
Malacia has a big potential, needs to add some muscles and get used to the pace in PL.
Martinez is a beast, but needs to keep his head calm and try to avoid to get in situations when he needs to throw himself to the ground to often. Might result in yellow/red cards and penalties.
Varane is just a monster, has the pace, good in the air, strong in duells, excellent positioning, great awareness, a true leader for our younger defenders. If Bruno is not playing, he should be the captain.

His words today on Instagram made me fall in love a little more with him today:
"This club, this team, your support!!"

Gave the ball way for their goal. Good performance on the whole against an excellent Jesus

Jesus is brilliant at everything except for finishing. Varane did well to keep up most of the time. Hope this inspires him to improve even more.

True, but looking at context, Jesus was able to barge into Varane at every opportunity, use his arms as much as he wanted without the refs doing anything. Every time Varane gave it back to him, the refs awarded Jesus with a free kick. Still, Varane statistically came out on top in terms of duels won.

My favourite part of this season so far is how he was ready to square up to Saka after he put in a serious challenge on Malacia towards the end, the ref was in the way and told Varane to go away before he got there but its been a long time we've had someone like that in our team.

Think there's been a marked improvement so far this season. He did cock up for the goal but I've been happy with what I've seen the last 4 matches.

This is it. As good as Jesus was, the reason he didn't have any real changes is because Varane was always there in time.

Varane's defending in the box was still excellent.

Got dominated by Jesus I thought.
He didn't really, Jesus done well against him outside the box and away from the goal (even then it was quite close between them), inside the box or near it, Jesus got no joy.

Agree with this. Jesus did well, but when it mattered, our defenders deal with his threat..

Varane was solid, again

Funny now, a lot thought he would be dropped by the manager as they felt he wasn't going to suit the passing game he demands.

Never doubted him one bit i knew injuries were his only concern, so glad he's proving everyone who ever doubted him wrong.

Wut? Jesus was shite. Ran around like a headless chicken all match, but Neville tried to insinuate that he was the second coming of Messi.

You've gone from one extreme to the other. Jesus was by no means shite, but his impact on the game was minimal in the end as he offered no actual goal threat. He did outmuscle Varane and Martinez on a couple of occasions. Both overall had decent games and won the battle though.

Meh, he was shite, in my eyes mate. Reminded me of classic Welbeck performance for us; ran around a-lot, was an annoyance to the defenders outside the box, but done feck all of note with the ball in any dangerous positions.

I used to like Jesus and rated him as a decent backup at City; but the over-rating of him since his move, is fecking ludicrous. Oh and saying he 'dominated' Varane is hysterical horse shite.
