Unfortunately defending is very much a team sport at the elite level and one defender cannot change a shit defence into a world class one. Its probably the area on the pitch that requires the most communication and organisation to function even remotely well. Hopefully next season when he has better players around him and more protection from the midfield he will look like the player we thought we were signing.
Maybe that's why he was sold. Another injury prone player who will only play 20 games a season at most. Its difficult to get form when he gets injured after every other game. We haven't had a chance to form a partnership anywhere on the pitch which has been the reason he has been so bad.
Oh please come of it.Amazing what Ramos holding your hand throughout your career can do for you

Where are the stats since we bought him. Don't need the stats before this.Right. I love how fans just make stuff up based on no facts.
20/21 - 41 games 31 La liga - Missed 8 games all season 4 with Covid
19/20 - 43 games 32 La Liga games - 0 injuries all season
18/19 - 43 games 32 La Liga - Missed 5 games 5 with Flu
17/18 - 44 games 27 La Liga - Mieed 4 games with Injury
But yeah he was sold because he is injury prone. Probably saw someone on twitter say it and took it as fact because it suits a narrative?
Did you ever actually watch Ramos? A brilliant player but if there’s one thing he specifically didn’t do, that’s make life easy for his defensive partnerAmazing what Ramos holding your hand throughout your career can do for you

Or maybe they offered him multiple contracts and he refused.Or maybe Madrid’s medical side were of the opinion that his body was on the edge of breaking down and they spotted a mark to waste their money on him. Even ignoring the injuries he has been, at best, poor this season.

Yes they did all that because of some conspiracy you made up in your head. Its clear they wanted to keep him and the player wanted to leave for a few years. You are aware they can offer contracts they know he’ll never sign, right? It’s quite a common PR tactic. Gets their own fans off their back if things are rocky at the back initially, as they have a fall guy.

No I am not. It was widely reported for the last few years of his time there. The only one making things up is youYou’re making up a story that they were desperate to keep him, either is just as likely as the other, and watching him play the standard of football he does once a month it’s hard to believe anyone would be desperate to keep him.

Wouldn't be shocked if he leaves for a CL club this summer. I bet he can't believe what he's walked into.
I feel like we've had major issues with centre backs getting injured for as long as I can remember.
Even when Fergie was here, even if Rio and Vidic were largely ok (still had their issues), the lads behind them were always going down.
We can all remember playing Carrick and Fletcher back there in big games.
It certainly seems like something we need to be looking at.
Yeah it's not like we'd miss him. He's been far from the Van Dijk like figure many talked like we were getting.feck off with him so.
He's hardly been a rock at the back...WHEN he isnt unavailable

I don't place the blame on him for us looking Shakey tbh. He's a proven world class player.
Shaw/Telles, Maguire, AWB/Dalot and Fred, Matic and Mctominay on the other hand are definitely not.
He's never stood a chance. We are a team of average PL players and wonder why we are struggling. The recruitment has been woeful.
The Premiership is a more Physical game and we will see how many games a season he plays here. You do if you think he was sold due to being injury prone.

I’ve watched him a fair bit during his career and I’ve always thought he was a little overrated. He’s a pretty good defender but he’s always been more of a secondary centre back (for want of a better term), basically the guy next to the defensive leader who’s actually the top centre half. A bit like Joe Gomez or Matip at Liverpool. Varane often looked a little lost without Ramos at Madrid. He's not that old, new to the league and playing in a dysfunctional team. Won't be judging him just yet. Anyone who has watched him over the last decade knows he's elite.

No he hasn't, he's been good overall.Or maybe Madrid’s medical side were of the opinion that his body was on the edge of breaking down and they spotted a mark to waste their money on him. Even ignoring the injuries he has been, at best, poor this season.

It’s like people are afraid to say he’s been shite because he’s Raphael Varane, World Cup and Champions League winner. If everyone judged him by the standards we do Maguire and Lindelof it’s hard to see how he’s been anything other than shite. He absolutely hasn’t. If that’s what counts for good then standards are in the basement.
Maguire has had half a season of particularly good form in his three seasons here. Meanwhile he was absolutely terrible for the first few months of that same season, and has again been absolutely terrible for most of this entire season.Does Maguire get this support?
He was good last season wasn't he? and now plays in a completely dysfunctional team?
