A discussion that hasn't been had for quite some time has pretty much reared its head once more since our FA Cup win, and, in particular, due to City's players absolute indifference to it as losers.

Then, there's sentiment like this:

I'm sorry guys the FA Cup is an after thought if your not in the final your likely to forget it's on.

It's like the Europa or Comference league finals only people in it care.

It's big in England as a secondary to the league but I seriously doubt anyone outside of the UK gives much of a toss justvlike we don't give a toss about the Polkal or Spanish cup.

I'm not going to quote the author as @ spam isn't the intent of highlighting the post.

Given how utterly dire the season has been, winning this trophy has offered some real welcome relief, and has also led to an outpouring of emotion you wouldn't have gotten for an FA Cup win when we were eyeing up PL's and CL's every season.

Anyway, put these trophies in order of significance and importance to you and for the club:

Champions League
Premier League
Europa League
FA Cup
League Cup
World Club Cup

Premier League
Champions League
FA Cup
Europa League
League Cup
Club World Cup

A full season league campaign is always the ultimate test of a team’s greatness for me.

Premier League has to be top, it's a clear indication of your standing across a 38 game campaign, and WAS our bread and butter. You need luck to win cup competitions.

For me,

Prem
Champions League
FA Cup
Europa League
League Cup
Other continental trophies.

I think the 2nd category is quite close and can depend on a variety of factors including the competition you come across or the 'journey'. Do think a PL stands above a CL win purely because of the consistency needed over a 38 game season.

Head says that order, but we desperately need to reel in Liverpool on the Champions League count, distant dream that this is right now.

Premier league, we’ve not won it for so long. Then champions league, it’s just a different feeling and a buzz about that competition. I’d put Europa league 3rd. Incase we have an off season and finish outside top 4. Then it’s FA cup and then obviously the caraboa.

Being in the Europa League and worse conference League is a complete failure in itself. You end up polishing it, but it's still a massive turd.

The biggest significance of us winning it in 2017 was qualifying for the Champions League.

Overall:

12.Domestic super cup

Tier 1: european cup, premier league
Tier 2: europa league
Tier 3: fa cup
Tier 4: conference league, carabao cup, fifa club World Cup
Tier 5: european super cup and dead last would be charity shield

Tier 1: Premier League and Champions League
Tier 2: FA Cup and Europa League
Tier 3: League Cup
Tier 4: Club World Cup
Tier 5: Conference League

Choosing between different trophies in the same tier is difficult. I think of it one way and the PL is more important than the CL, looking at it from another point of view and it's the other way around. Same for FA Cup and Europa. Very difficult to choose between them.

What I would say is that in Tier 1, if I had the choice of winning one and being nowhere close in the other I'd definitely choose the PL, but if we were close in both but can only get one across the line I'd probably go for the CL. I've always struggled to take CL winners seriously if they weren't challenging for their league right to the very end.

I'd take the CL over the PL anyday of the week. The buzz of winning the biggest trophy in European football in a cup final on the last game of the game of the season is unmatched.

Winning the league title is a bit anticlimactic quite often. You've often win it way before the day you officially celebrate it - and it's usually against an opponent you don't give a shit about. Winning it on the final day though (like 2008) is a massive buzz though.

CL and PL are the big dogs. Win either of them and it's a great season.

Europa League and FA Cup are sort of similar. Depends who you play, our FA Cup felt bigger this season for playing City and Liverpool. An epic game in the EL semi or final could make it feel bigger too. Neither are enough by themselves to make it a good season, but they're fun to win.

League Cup means very little tbh. World Club is basically at the level of a pre-season tourney as far as I'm concerned.

1) PL - 38 competitive games
2) CL - competing against the best in Europe
3) EL - competing against some high quality European teams. Most importantly, winner gets CL (in case we have another shit season)
4) FA Cup - depending on draw will play against a few top team in England. Winner gets EL (in case we have shitter season, like this season)
5) Carling - no comments. Not so important to me.
6) World Club Cup - who watch that if your team not in it?

I agree that the Premier League is the most accurate assessment of a club’s strength, but there’s no glory like the Champions League.

Then FA Cup, Europa League, League Cup, everything else.

Champions League
Premier League
Europa League
FA Cup
League Cup
World Club Cup

you got them right in the OP.

Champions League
Premier League
Club World Cup
Europa League
FA Cup
League Cup
Community Shield

May I ask why Club World Cup is 3rd?

Official FIFA World Champions. I don't care if you have to beat someone from Japan or Australia - it's such an alluring title. Ferguson also recognized its importance back in 2008.

"I'll take my strongest team. I think we look at this tournament as a platform for players to excel, to express themselves," he said."It is a world championship and any player who goes into it will want to play the right way and make an impression. To play in a tournament of this stature is wonderful for them."

  6. League Cup (do not care for this tournament, in all honesty)
I'm sympathetic to the very valid argument that winning the Premier League, especially in this era, is the surest indicator of consistent excellence (and the development/maturity of your sporting project, on a week-to-week basis), so it should be No. 1. Even this year, Borussia Dortmund has managed to reach the final, and it's definitely not the 2nd best team on the continent. But the European Cup is still greater, it has always been the holy grail for the best of the best, even accounting for the fact certain teams have fluked it (and did not boast the best underlying metrics or processes), so to speak; there are dozens of league winners on the continent every year, but only one European Cup winner. Also, perhaps I'm jaded from watching us win 10-ish Premier League titles versus only 2 European Cup titles? A lot of Juventus supporters, for example, might feel the same way — 36 Serie A titles but only 2 European Cup titles. Far away from other heavyweight clubs like Real Madrid (in their own realm obviously), AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Liverpool.

I largely agree.

Tier 1
League titles are the ultimate barometer of quality, for me. Cup competitions, like the CL are more reliant on luck, but the knockout element makes football (already a low-scoring sport) even more of a knife-edge, nerve-shredder. And as an Arsenal fan, I’d love to win the CL, just to join that prestigious club.

Tier 2
I prefer the FA Cup, as you often have to beat top quality teams in the latter rounds to win. Arteta had to beat City and Chelsea for his win. ETH had to overcome Liverpool and City for his. You can play every round of a Europa campaign and not face teams of that quality. On the other hand, it is a European trophy and there are a lot more games (FA Cup is 6, I believe). So in that sense, EL feels like more of an achievement.

Tier 3
I’d put the League Cup and Conference League in the same tier. I don’t really care about with competition, but if we were somehow in the semi final 2nd leg… I’d want us to win it.

Tier 4
Club World Cup (in current form), Super Cup and Charity Shield. I rank any trophy that only takes on or two games to win at the same level.

...huge gap here

I do think we have placed a bit too much importance on the domestic cup wins as a fanbase but that's not surprising given how starved for success we all are. Those just tend to lose a bit of shine for me (compared to Europa) when the best teams often rotate heavily until the semi-finals and you can be gifted an easy run to Wembley somehwat often. You do often have to win a tough final though.

In the order I'd want to win them:

PL
UCL
FA Cup
Europa
League Cup

My gap between PL and UCL is probably a lot bigger than most people.

I think the Premier League is the most important in a way because as the United legends and Fergie said, it's your bread and butter. The cup runs and trophies are a bonus, but if you're doing it week in and week out in the league, it's the best sign that you're a good side. And if you're a good side, you'll naturally have more chances of trophies (odd season like this aside).
