Ralf Rangnick's consultancy role has been scrapped

That's absolutely not the case. Mourinho spat out his dummy because we refused to buy/sell the players he wanted, and Ole was little more than a figurehead had even less power than that.

Ronaldo arguably has more power than the manager, if reports about improvements at Carrington are anything to go by.

We can go back and forth about who made every single decision the club has made post-SAF, but the fact remains, the decisions have been almost exclusively poor and it's because we have failed to build a modern footballing structure to support the 'Head Coach'.

Rangnick is genuinely the worst appointment this club has ever made, he’ll definitely go down as the most pointless at the very least. Yes he highlighted the many issues surrounding the club but at the cost of our season which was more than salvageable when he took over.

Really confusing and it's hard to see a direction with the club, ETH might do well but he won't be here forever.

After everything, wasn't there someone else who could've come in and just been an interim manager? Would Laurent Blanc have done any worse for example?

I wonder how ETH would feel working with a club who can forget about promises made with a high level employee just few months ago.

This is what Murtough said in November. Rangnick's advisory role was only ever an afterthought (Link).

And as you can see from this Tweet back in November, the consultancy role was Rangnick's own idea. Not the club's.

It's no great loss to United either way. We only agreed to it in order order to secure him as manager.

The role was never clearly defined which made me think it was more of a carrot and stick kind of thing than what some here were suggesting, which was to revolutionize our club or something

Don't we have a pending overhaul of the social media team? He seems far more qualified for that job. Utterly hopeless at management, but good at press conferences

The club should of said from the start that he was only hired as a weasel. He probably told the club something they didn't want to hear, like get rid of Fletcher.

If anything this should have happened early February at the latest. The club tried to save face until now, but glad it's done with before the summer.

And just like that I have no confidence in ETH also being successful here based on the decision making of the geniuses at Manutd. There is too much incompetence from too many people at this club. People say gradually they are changing things. Nothing has changed because there are no footballing people still making the footballing decisions. One corporate pension to another, that’s all it is. They don’t even know themselves what path they are treading on, it’s still hit and hope on and off the pitch.
Huh? Surely this is proactive decision making..

They appointed RR with the expectation he would perform, he did not - his services are no longer required as a result. Bad decision making would be persisting with a man we have no obligation to.

I’m totally with you on Rangnick. I think it’s the worst appointment a top club has ever made and considering it was reported Woodward had nothing to do with it I’m not enthused this new era has any more of a clue about what it’s doing than the old era.

The only reason we should have hired Rangnick as manager is if he was going to stay on as a sporting director. That's were his true quality lies. FFS we're talking about a man who has barely ever won anything as a manager, a man whom despite being in his sixties had never managed a top club. Even if he had the CV, his football is polar opposite to what our team's strength. What's the point of having him as an interim? Is there anyone in that club with some football brains?

I dont get it either, utterly bizarre.
It's just difficult to think things are going to get better when the club talks about a new structure led by Murtough and Fletcher and then bringing Rangnick in is the first major decision they made.

Why the feck are people upset? Who the feck is Rangnick? People bought his bluff, hook line and sinker.
Club building, gegenpressing guru my arse. Unbelievable.

His near mythical status amongst some on here is truly baffling.

Terrible manager, who for some reason was celebrated for such great insights such as:

“Having a clear transfer strategy, signing players who fit into that system; that’s what both clubs have been doing in the last five or six years,”

or :

Manchester City and Liverpool… have been built together and recruited over a period of five or six years. All of them under the premise of how the coaches want to play. I told the board this is what has to happen (at United),"

What a genius!

Just makes it an even more bizarre appointment. If we didn't want the Red Bull model why did we hire someone who was surely going to look to implement something similar to what he's done at previous clubs?
Playing Devil's advocate here but maybe we hoped he'll be able to scale up that model to a club of our size. But certainly based on his comments and some of the names he is rumoured to have suggested ( of course we can't know for sure) it seems he couldn't comprehend these are not really the players a club of Utd's size need. I mean Zakaria and Haidara were mentioned. Sure they may be better than McFred but are they gonna go toe to toe with top European midfields like Real's last night?

Or it could be ETH didn't agree with his vision, in which case it's better Ralf left now than sticking around and causing issues later on.

Fecking hell

I have a bad feeling about this summer. We seem so unorganised.

Maybe we should’ve stuck with Carrick

from a purely interim manager perspective then you're right. Rangnick has never worked in a top club. His football is totally different to what this squad is built for. Rangnick made sense if we were going to give him the sporting director role afterwards. He would have the time to assess the rot as manager and act on it once he's at board level. We just wasted 6 months of his and our time. What a train wreck of a club we've got

Good, he was a worthless appointment who has been in soft self protection mode for months now.

He proved himself a fraud on the touchline so why on Earth we'd listen to him behind the scenes? All very well 'club building' small startup clubs like the RB lot but he proved this clubs too big for him here fishy fishes

Maybe we should’ve stuck with Carrick

I actually wanted this  i thought his 3 games in charge was the most assured we looked all season and haven't looked any better since. Granted hindsight is wonderful and it was most like just a tiny bounce.

He did absolutely woeful job as a manager so I’m not surprised to see this. I’d be more worried if we were actually giving him any authority over clubs business after the last 6 months.

In any case I hope we will bring someone in who can do what Ralf was supposed to do.

Overmars would be a good choice but he would be far too problematic unfortunately

Fecking hell

I have a bad feeling about this summer. We seem so unorganised.

How? his consultancy role was a non-job basically, he was clearly going to have no say in anything major except give his input. Before we all overreact at least give Murtough and Ten Hag the summer.

What a United thing to do. His subpar managerial performances could be tolerated given his main role was the consultancy stuff.

I was hoping we could use his RB connections for players like Nkunku and now that's gone...

But with this... why didn't we hire a proper interim and go for the CL?

This club is very much still a mess.

The board said Rangnick could do both jobs - no problems. But now Rangnick leaves United, because he can not do both jobs? Circus United.

Most predictable outcome. If this was the idea all along, why not get a more current coach and try to save the season when we sacked Ole? fecking pathetic management.

In that case we have hired what? the 7th bad appointment as manager? Will someone take responsibility of that?

Well this didn't exactly work out how we all hoped did it .

Luckily we got Ten Hag, otherwise it would have been a complete train wreck.

Completely predictable to anyone that didn't buy into the idea that he was somehow running everything behind the scenes. He's been a disaster.
