Ralf Rangnick's consultancy role has been scrapped

He's got far too big a mouth (especially when he'll have a platform to talk with Austrian national team) to be kept in a background consultancy role.

If he could just stfu every once in a while he might have been worth keeping around

To be fair, he was completely shit and I imagine that had some bearing in the decision. A 37% win rate is shambolic.

Another win for Rashford... the guy really is untouchable.
Exactly what came to my mind when I saw the news. I can imagine him going to glazers and the teammates congratulating him afterwards with Lingard doing the west coast signs.

We are a fecking joke of a club. Nothing have changed. Absolutly nothing. It still sick to the core. United have no clue how to plan anything other than a sircus show. Yes he has never been a top class manager, but its not what he is. He is a builder of clubs.

Im convinced this summer will be a joke like before. Chasing players who doesnt want to come or bringing in players who doesnt suit the way we want to play.

Just bend over United and get fecked yet again by every top club out there.

Going to chalk this as another key moment in time since Ole's dismissal in the club's turnover. Let's see how it plays out and the decision to completely disengage from Ralf.

I find it odd. Ralf did a reasonable to good job as manager until being knocked out of CL. Then things went off the rails like injury, form, and continued discontent of players, a recurring theme that pre-existed Ralf.

Murtough seeked him out and has discarded him one week after the season ends. Within that week, nobody really knows what Rangnick has contributed in terms of opinion or analysis, but regardless, a consultant can only give strategic advice and it is ultimately up to the client to consider it, then implement.

EtH wouldn't have had any direct working with Rangnick, as the initial remit was Rangnick to work with Murtough and support him.

In all of this I can’t help but spare a thought for @Hansi Fick who must be feeling quite vindicated after all of the arguments that they received, when pretty much everything they said about Ralf has turned out to be true.
I think if you analyse Ralf's comments about how he views the club should operate over the coming years, I think it's best we've parted ways with him.

Just because we are currently a shit show doesn't mean the first alternative we come across is the best way to go. His vision seems to revolve around following the Red Bull methodology but that is not how we were going to get back to the top.

I suspect ETH didn't really want to work with him for whatever reason. Also, although I liked his honesty, it was only to an extent. He put too much of our business out there and that's never going to go down well with any organisation imho.

We still need to have someone with the right credentials overseeing football operations I think. Or at least someone to help Murtough - not Fletcher. ETH will need a good scouting set up as well.

Anyway good luck to Ralf. Let's hope he doesn't do any further interviews on United.

@Adnan and @Tom Van Persie

Give me something that isn’t negative about this please?!

Concerned he’s butted heads with the club and they aren’t fully committed to the changes he’s very publicly sought to implement.
I don't really know but my gut feeling is ten Hag and Rangnick have different views. ten Hag is happy to work with the director and other people above him (as seen with Overmars at Ajax) but he also wants some control. If ten Hag and Rangnick are not on the same page then the club probably thought it was pointless keeping him around. It sounds like the club feel that they're in a stronger position now since Rangnick came in and they can move forward without Rangnick's input.

The consultancy role was part of negotiations! What is this 'old regime', you think sacking a couple of people and giving more authority to Murtough is a 'restructure'?
It was a demand from Rangnick, not from United.

United eventually gave in because they wanted Rangnick as manager, not because they were desperate for a consultant.

The consultancy role was never a requirement on the job spec.

People are being deliberately obtuse when they cite Rangnick’s (shite) win record as a manager here. It’s a completely different role.

Probably because he can't keep his mouth shut. Granted, he's identified the problems, but that doesn't mean he comes out to the media every week to talk about the state of our club. We can already see that!

I'd say thanks but what did he do? He spent half a season at the club and there were no signs of progression or change in style of play to what it was like under Ole. Not really manager material, especially not for the club the stature of United anyway.

Wish him the best of luck with Austria, though.

Would Real or Bayern have hired this guy for a 2-year consultancy role? Was a dumb move in the first place.

There is big bottom lined clause about him not talking about United in that last settlement
/I sure hope so. Nothing against him but was way too honest with the press. Can't have that.

And people fell into the idea that positive changes were happening. Entire idea behind hiring him was this role and now he's already gone which made his disastrous time here even worse now because we have pissed away CL qualification for legitimately nothing.

Probably good news.

Have to wonder how the season might have gone if we’d hired Valverde instead (never mind Conte).

The man had a geezer in Russia watching the game and relaying tactical decisions during the match, he was a failure as manager and coach here.

Probably good news.

Not sure Valverde was ever a serious contender because I think he only wanted the job permanently so he was ruled out quite quickly. The other serious contender was Rudi Garcia.

Not many professional organisations the size of United with this level of strategic ignorance and confusion. What an utter joke of a club we’ve become.

Should have hired a better manager as interim. This was utterly pointless.

Us sticking to a plan was never going to happen

Yeah, but it's hard to command respect and speak with authority within an organisation when you've already failed in one prominent role.

They're both well run clubs already. We are not. Hence why the appointment was made. It's not rocket science.

Listen to ten Hag's response when he was asked about Rangnick in his press conference. I think he has his own vision and isn't really that interested in hearing Rangnick's thoughts moving forward so the club probably thought it was pointless keeping him around.
We should tell ETH to keep his pointless opinions about club structure to himself and focus on his role.

Ralf was hired to be manager and try and get top 4. That was his objective. There was talk of him staying on as a consultant but let’s be real… that was more likely used to justify the interim short term nature of his contract.

He failed dismally as manager and whilst he probably is more suited to a consulting role… the idea that this was why we hired him is nonsense. It’s pure deflection to excuse how bad he was doing as manager. Like yeah, he’s getting terrible results but what a great job he is doing exposing how shit we are. Laughable really. I can’t lose any sleep over this.

Exactly. I feel for the Ralf fanboys.

Bought the club time to sell another 'restructure' and avoid hiring Conte.

Meanwhile Spurs prepare for the Champions League..

Players must be pleased with themselves. Got what they wanted

Just makes it an even more bizarre appointment. If we didn't want the Red Bull model why did we hire someone who was surely going to look to implement something similar to what he's done at previous clubs?

Why the feck are people upset? Who the feck is Rangnick? People bought his bluff, hook line and sinker.
Club building, gegenpressing guru my arse. Unbelievable.

You could argue we’ve already taken on board what we need to from Ralf. There has been a massive structural overhaul with many long time employees moved on and we’ve hired arguably the most progressive coach available.

There was a danger that ETH would have been undermined by someone else having the ear of the board.

So, the club hasn't really changed. We move on from one idea to another quickly and scrapped everything at the first sign of trouble hoping the new manager can sort the squad out.

I never thought Rangnick would have anything to do with the team after he work as consultant, but maybe behind the scene he will still influence the restructuring of the club. What a pointless appointment Rangnick turned out to be.

As i've said for months, he's done an absolute awful job and that's it, got sacked

The way some people have reacted you'd think he won us the champions league
