I would love it if it happens the way everybody hopes it pans out, but my biggest worry is that Woodward just won't leave.
Don't know why people are expecting instant and significant changes. Pep took over from a EPL winner and spent 1 season, Klopp took over a decent team and took a year. Rangnick is not even a serving coach, he has retired years ago. The best that he can do, is to take a RED approach, recruiting trusted specialist from various pensioner homes, if available, to superimpose his ideas and style on top of Carrick & McKinner.

He has won nothing and has done not a lot as a manager, why are people going overboard about him? He has an old style of playing that his "students" have moved away from.

I've put on my protective gear for any kicking that comes my way but I'm not sure that Woodward staying now is that bad.
Let me, by way of explanation, say that the signing of Rangnick (for me anyways) shows that the club have maybe acknowledged that the need a person in to change things at all levels. Previously we got excited by LVG, for example, but that was more based on the squad/players.
Maybe the realisation has become " we don't know what we are doing" and it's at all levels.
Rangnick has previously been successful at major changes throughout clubs, his trophy haul etc isn't impressive.
Maybe just maybe this is what is needed to train not just the players but also the heirarchy? Maybe likes of Woodward will benefit most from this with regards to football rather than just commercial deals?
For me it's time for a clean slate and hopefully enjoy the ride. I don't see a great impact on the pitch in the next 6 months (maybe different after the January window) but hopefully a massive impact for the club as a whole.
Patience will be key for us fans as we generally go by what we see on matchday.

Yeah spot on and personally I find the guy very engaging, passionate and knowledgeable about the game. That alone is something this club has lacked for years.
The interview with him on YouTube talking about how he realised the players were happy with the food by them taking it home to their families I found particularly fascinating.

You do not hire RR to be a successful manager, you hire him to build a modern club. If this season is successful, it would be a surprise. RR will build the fundamental for success, next year we will have a modern manager, a new team, a new philosophy. This man is all about development and development needs time.

People seem to be unable to understand this. Rangnick isn't here to be squad manager. He isn't here to challenge Pep, Klopp, Conte and Tuchel. It's just that we need an interim, so he interims. His real work is after that. I'm more excited about that, than his coaching period.
I agree. And if the reports have been accurate, he will be in charge of transfers as we move forward which would forfend the type of random, haphazard transfers that have taken place since Ferguson retired.

Hargreeves responded to this not won anything by saying that he has significantly improved every club he has been at so its not always about winning trophies. The other major point is his consultancy for 2 years. This is the most exciting point. The muppets upstairs have failed for 6 years and failed with 4 manager appointments. Surely its exciting to get an actual football person in to help make these decisions. Would you rather Woodward decide our new manager?

DAZN Germany has a video series called "decoding" with Rangnick. In one of the recent videos he talks about PSG and Pochettino who he calls one of the most exciting coaches in Europe. Also says it's a difficult job where you don't have as much power as at other clubs, so the coach has to make some compromises. He was complimentary about his Southampton and Spurs team.
I mentioned him in 2018 as an option to organize the football side of the club. So in a way I'm the Rangnick of the Rangnick idea.

People wanted the likes of Valverde and Conte. Better managers and more successfull. But they would be short term approaches. The forum is weird though. Happy to give Ole 3 years, want trophies now and start again in 2 years with the same cycle relying on the manager to get us out of the dark ages. At least now we have some continuity and competence for the next 3 years to build something that lasts.
Conte and Valverde would have no chance in this league and our current setup to make any sort of lasting impression or challenge for the big titles

Rangnick career can't be described without mentioning the acquisition, development and introduction of young, sometimes very young players to the first team. Keep in mind that he worked at a level where it's a necessity if you want to be sustainable, you need to produce young talents and eventually sell them at a profit. The difference for a club like United is that they don't have to sell players when they are developed and good enough for the first team.
On a side note, Rangnick approach or the approach used by Paul Mitchell and Ajax, which is to heavily rely on academy graduates and post-formation(players between 18-21 that need development and elite coaching) is something that was preconized by the ECA. It's considered as the most efficient way to manage a football club in the future because it reduces the amount of players that you purchase at high fee and homegrown/post-formation players tend to spend more time on inexpensive contracts which is good in terms of resource management. It's a model that Bayern try to follow.
So yes, the youth players should be at the heart of his concerns and if he stays these type of players should be the backbone of the club's logic.
