Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

Salzburg are already very happy that Jaissle brought stability to the team after what Marsch did. It was spectacular, but not always successful.

I don't see Marsch in the mix, he is clearly worse than Hasenhüttl ever was, and he wasn't seen as good enough for Leipzig to go forward, so Rangnick let him go.

To the Jaissle thread! :D

But seriously. I see your point but I'm more on the lets give the younger managers time, half a season seems a bit short.

City brought in Txixi and had a massive success despite being a team with no real history and trying to copy Barcelona and spending gazillions. They're forward thinking though and seem to always have a plan.

Hopefully this will be the start of it for United. Structure, future plans, being proactive than reactive. Top 4 is okay for me. I dont expect more this season. I expect more in the future, 2-3 years from now. We might actually operate as a modern club and feck me how refreshing itd be.

If Gary Neville and Paul Scholes really care about Manchester United, they should simply shut up.

Both were barnacles on a sinking ship in Ole's torturous last months when pretty much everyone had called time on his reign. They have no credibility as pundits and are just tarnishing their legacies.

It will only take a few iffy results and performances before they start clamoring for Carrick or some other member of the 'old guard' to take over.

What have they said?

Yeah, Leipzig seems to stabilize a bit in the last weeks so I doubt he will be sacked now (assuming this trend continues), but I doubt he will prove himself worthy for bigger jobs there.

I tend to be on board with @Adnan , IF United sign a previously RB affiliated coach it would be most likely Adi Hütter. Has left RB to break a clubs dominance over a league in Switzerland and proved to be capable of big game wins with Frankfurt and Gladbach (his last three results against Bayern were 5-0, 1-1 and 3-1) as well as a deep run into the Europa League, onl stopped narrowly in the semi final by Chelsea., while not having the most consistent squads there.

Hütter is a great shout and the kind of pure head coach profile that I expect. There are so many new options that I can't settle on one.

Exciting decision. Very curious how this will play out. Whether Rangnick is the right man and up to the job or not, this is indication that the club is looking at the right profile, IMO.

True. Of course the irony of the beauty industry is that the only real anti-aging cream is suncream yet so many women spend £1000s on bogus anti-aging products and go and cook themselves on a sunbed or at the beach.

Actually women are usually far more aware than men and have protection in their daily moisturisers. But the UV that damage skin penetrates both cloud and glass. And the lighter the skin the more vulnerable you are. So smart people wear SPF indoor and in winter. But we digress.

Is this some hipster code for Fred being played as the third man in a double pivot on Tuesdays only?

So you aren't just glazed but likely also glistening with all that cream?

PS: Years of patience for that joke.

How do you think this will work out for Sancho. I remember you always insisted we needed to change system to get the best out of him.

No but the wife is. I look like more like Clint Eastwood skin wise.

So Laurie Whitwell/Andy Mitten going with Murtough wanting the 2 year consultant role and Sky going with Woodward. Sky and Woodward really do deserve each other don’t they.

Do any of you 3 credit Mike Shorts with our League and Champions League double in 2008? Or our multiple league titles and CL final appearances after he was promoted to assistant manager?

I’m guessing the answer is no?

The coaches are only as good as the manager instructing them. Carrick and McKenna can’t just decide to coach a pressing game or a single pivot if the manager doesn’t want to play that way.

Meh. Most of our players declined individually as well, even if tactical is a problem individually they'd be fitter, quicker, sharper if they're doing their job.

Imagine what ole must think, all the rubbish spouted of knowing the dna of thr club, united way, heritage etc.., gets the sack and that's that, no behind the scenes role at all, then he sees rangnick hired as interim and is then also going to stay on as a consultant for the club.

It's good to see some footballing sense prevail at the club.

Lingard would fit in well in a Rangnick team, always pressing, always moving, quick movements & passing. Think we could potentially see a VDB, Fred, Lingard midfield with Bruno, Ronaldo and Sancho up front

Klopp is not going to say anything else than that he rates him when asked about it in a press conference. But if you read between the lines, the anecdote about how Rangnick used to call him about opposition info could give you a hint of just how much Klopp regards Rangnick as his "mentor", "teacher" or philosophical "godfather"..

Jesus you are still at it

What is the crack with the German club fans on this, they seem to pop into anything United rated and like to shit over the lot of it.

Shades of the whole Sancho saga never seen as much butt hurt folk in my life, rival fans gutted that rival team was losing a player to a English club..............bizarre

You can imagine what these managers like klopp, pep must be telling their team about united before the game.
This season De Bruyne said that Pep said before the game they didn't train against any specific system, because it's so unpredictable as to which Man Utd side will show up.

Have to love the bitterness of Klopp that he is that obsessed he is talking about us again

I've got to admit, I can't fully recall how he set up Leipzig at his last managerial stint in detail. But Rangnick is sort of the spiritual father of the German pressing and transition "movement" and his teams were always very methodical and "extreme". I remember in his Hoffenheim days he used to play training matches where players weren't allowed to pass backwards and stuff like that.

I think the structure in general will help Sancho a lot but I also believe he's better suited to a more possession heavy style than Rangnick stands for. That being said, Sancho was also excellent when Dortmund won the ball high up the pitch so that might work for him. I don't think Rangnick had players who were really comparable to Sancho for Leipzig, so it's also hard to predict how he might use him. But in general, I think he'll profit from this appointment.

Love the story of their shared second league season. We broke point and goal scoring records in the league that year, while Klopp/Mainz had to stay there and were not promoted. That's exactly the season I became a football fan.

German club fans have a massive inferiority complex, small league syndrome I call it. They despise the premier league, to the extent they would even rather players in the Bundesliga move to Bayern when they don't even support them, rather than move to the PL. Very odd some of them.

This is how a proper manager work. Not taking a break in the middle of crisis. Excited how he is going to change our club. For all the talk of United DNA bollox, the closest we have seen a team played like prime SAF United was Klopp with Liverpool.

I have always wanted to say that. I think people have forgotten what SAF used to do. Granted we didn't always press from the 1st min but when we laid siege to the opposition goal we would harass and hound them right away like the press we see now, wasn't called gegenpressing at that time.

What Rangnick is talking about in the videos isn't all that diff from what SAF used to do, no?

Never heard of that, can you point me to a link? Curious

Yeah well, no...

A lot of German fans hate Rangnick because he established two artificial constructs in the Bundesliga which replaced real traditional clubs. That might be a reason for some of the negative comments.

Yep, all my posts about how I consider Rangnick not good enough for a club like Man United because I despise the Premier League so much and have such a small league syndrome.

You want to watch the German inferiority complex in action? Go look at some YT videos called something like "Rangnick, Father of Gegenpressing" describing how the mighty "professor", inventor of modern football in a Swabian 6th division village club in the 80s, is now going to teach Cristiano Ronaldo how to play football because Germans are so good at coaching.

Hard to get it so wrong, but you did it.

No, we're just less tribal and can't stand half truths and wrong information. You guys are the ones who are butt hurt because people correct your alternative facts. Stop being so tribal. People speaking facts are never in the wrong, regardless which stance they take.

You can’t be less tribal if it’s Germany or die?

Literally in the video of the press conference from today that were posted above and on which I commented.

It was literally not in the video. But I found an extended version of the video. Anyway, I think you're interpreting too much into that. Klopp was never really a disciple of Rangnick but that doesn't mean he rates them. But Rangnick definitely had a huge influence on the careers of Tuchel, Nagelsmann, Rose, Marsch, etc.

It's so funny because if there's a personification of the German inferiority/superiority complex and small league syndrome in football, it is exactly Ralf Rangnick

It's like you actually hired @Zehner to be your new manager because you liked his posts about modern tactics and German coaching so much

You can’t be less tribal if it’s Germany or die?
It is just because we coincidentally know the most about German stuff. We could argue to no end about anything if someone is posting nonsense, only when it is about Bundesliga related stuff we all assemble because we all know about it. Nothing inherently tribal about that.

Another tid bit here

I meant this video.

And I don't think that, if you compare my post and the one I was responding to, you will end up thinking that I am the one interpreting too much into it. As I responded to someone claiming that Utd players will watch Klopp compliment Rangnick and Rangnick will draw authority from that...
