Ralf Rangnick | ex-interim manager | does anyone rate him?

I'd really like to know what he thinks of the McFredMaguire Sausage, sandwiched by the fluffy WanBissakaShawberto warm bread.

According to some pundits, RR is a pragmatic *********** of football. He doesn't need to have his teams pressing on high all the time. Ronaldo could just stand in between two defenders to force the goalie in a particular direction -- then they press from the middle onto that defender or DCM.

My biggest question will be Pogba. I cant see Pogba having that sort of discipline of pressing in packs/overloads that's required under RR especially in the middle of the park.

I really don't think United will factor Pogba into any plans. I assume he will just be super sub when healthy until he leaves on his free to hopefully PSG. Perfect for him.

This is horrible. United just went backwards. I don't know why people are excited but his style of football went extinct in somewhere between 2000-2006
Really??? That’s a bit strong isn’t it. The guy is pretty much world renowned for his style of football. Baffled by this.

Man Utd have scored a wonder here I think

Hes going to struggle in the interim..

There will be some teething process, I guess. However, Ralf staying for 2 more years in a consultancy role does indicate that he will provide his expertise and advice when it comes to football matters. He is very likely to have a say on who could be the best bet amoung available managers. Rangnick is probably the most knowledgeable football person who is/will be involved in training sessions, which, I believe will have a terrific effect on our squad. Frankly speaking, we have been underachieving for too long, so if there was one person who I would trust to unlock the potential that our players have, it would be the German Professor.

If this is really happening, I have a bad feeling it will be quite painful at the beginning.

Yep! me too! Rangnick may have pioneered the 'high press'... but shouldn't we be seeking to hire the man who can find a way around it... certainly with our current players?
Ppfftt.. Negative mentality. We hipsters let the normies worry about finding their ways out of our now worldclass press.

Based on what I've read of him so far Rangnick is probably one of the best experts in modern football. The only reason big clubs haven't signed him yet is him demanding full control of the football matters, which of course wouldn't go well with most of the big clubs.

He refused the coach position at Chelsea so in order to persuade him to come here we must have offered something bigger, the DOF role with full power for example. Imo his first six months is actually only a trial, if things go well he'll be escalated to be the one who run the football side of United from now on. We'll definitely hire a new coach this summer but he'll be the one to decide who. Also the whole structures and organisations of how that side would be run. While the commercial side would be run by Arnold and co.

This potentially would be the life changing, absolutely required appointment United has been desperately needed in the past decade post SAF. Maybe a bit too hopeful and premature from me but I really hope it's the case.

We play a bad version of 90s football in 2021. Is it even possible for us to go backwards?

I'm actually more excited by Rangnick the exec than Rangick the interim. It also makes it feasible he can step aside midseason if one of the other choices became available before summer. Am honestly not Ten Haag or bust. The other candidates are pretty good in their own right.

Yeap. Plus moving for free will only mean one last paycheque for Raiola --- leaving behind a legacy of unfulfilled potential and probably forgotten in 2-3yrs time.

Just hope that the club will actually wait until the end of the season this time to evaluate before making any decisions, instead of being contract sluts and start dishing out extensions to everyone including the prawn sandwich lady.

Man Utd have scored a wonder here I think

He turned down Chelsea after they ditched Lampard. Ragnicks 2000-06 outdated football got him to a CL semifinal in 2011 and won him a German league cup in 2019. Goes to show how much some know

Does he have any interest in being long term manager? Maybe he accepted this interim role after apparently turning down other offers in the past because he’s looking to long term move into a technical director role and that’s the basis of his agreeing to come.

If so I don’t believe he’d agree unless he was told exactly who the club wanted to bring in full time. You wouldn’t agree otherwise and be left with a good chance the next manager is someone you don’t think you’ll work well with

With how much our online fanbase loves to moan, I am surprised that most of us here think Rangnick was the right choice. Expected more people to come and make excuses for those we didn"t get and for those we missed out on, while being certain we got some leftover turd again.

Thats what i thought which is why I'm asking: why do people think Rangnick's appointment makes it more likely we'll go for Ten Hag over say Poch, or any other manager? Seems like a complete leap in logic to me.
Well as someone says above, Ten Haag will thrive in the structured environment Ralph will provide, while Poch wants absolute control. Footballing philosophies or not

Or at least told that he'll be involved in making that decision. By all accounts Murtough admires RR very much and has been looking at him as a candidate for this "consultant" role (I don't think the latter will involve him sitting with his legs up and offer the odd piece of advice) for a while now.

There's also the fact that RR and the club (which should mean Murtough again) apparently didn't reach an agreement until RR was given assurances that he'd be allowed to oversee a "project" that goes well beyond just steadying the ship for the remainder of the season.

In short, what it looks like is that RR will function as a sport director/DOF in practice - working closely with Murtough (and possibly Fletcher, who knows) on a long-term strategy.

(At least I choose to interpret what we know in this way).

He was runner up in 2019 but I agree with your point on the whole. His tactics are extremely similar to the ones used by Klopp, Nagelsmann etc., not sure how people can't wrap their heads around this.

It's all title. Ceo doesnt mean arnold will be bothering about football. He'll just ended up signing dotted lines.
I don't blame you for being wary of the power afforded to Rangnick with the way our club has been ran the past few years. But I'd rather be optimistic, this is at the very least a step in the right direction, let's see if we can reach the goal.

This is all pretty laughable. What's so ambitious about hiring a 60+ year old guy who has never worked at a top club? Who has never won a title but a single German Cup with Schalke? How come that's the extent of his career if he's such a messiah of football wisdom? Is Man United's aspiration to run like the well-oiled, unstoppable winning machines that are RasenBallsport Leipzig or TSG Hoffenheim?
I realize that German managers are in high demand, but hiring Rangnick now is about the equivalent of Arsenal signing Podolski when Germany was starting to produce all this amazing young talent.

The state of these posts. Ignore all the context and just pure stupidity. We've really let a lot of clowns start posting freely and openly wumming in the Manchester United forum.

Laughable thing is that this is not the first time he has done this. The bloke continuously trawls through United forum and leaves no opportunity to not shit on the club/or make a WUM post. Utter clown.

There weren't really any popular interim choices, Rangnick is the most intriguing.

Valverde - Most people think Messi carried him and his football was rather dull.
Favre - His Dortmund side was exciting at times but still a mess at the back.
Garcia - He underachieved in the league and most french posters here think he's rubbish.
Fonseca - Newcastle turned him down.

What are the chances of him being in the stands on Sunday, would be ironic as he nearly joined them after Lampard sacking

We should just let Rangnick manage us for the entire next season and get him to use his personal connections to lure Pep whose contract is ending in 2023.

Personally I wish we scrapped the whole team who was responsible for coaching and our current brand of football, but I guess Ralf has to see it himself how much each of them really brings.
My guess is Michael and Mike will be shown the door in second hour of his regime.

The United of old signed LvG and Mourinho.

Ole was a one-off. He came in as caretaker and nobody expected him to sign a longer contract. But the players fell in love with him and our biggest asset, Pogba, seemed re-born. It would have been a bigger risk not to sign Ole at that point.

You can't use the Solksjaer example as the template for the way United operate, any more than you can use Dan James or Cristiano Ronaldo as the template for the way United buy players. It would be like saying Chelsea operate the same way because of what happened with Lampard.

Sticking with Ole for as long as we did was the problem, not hiring him

McKenna and Carrick are young, no reason why they can't learn from Ralf. Phelan should go though.

I'm reading some of the posts since the Ralf announcement has been made and the concerning thing is that some come across as suggesting or thinking there will be a massive shift in our playing style etc straight away and we could be winning trophies by the end of the season.

Now I'm not saying we won't win a trophy or that it wouldn't be nice to suddenly see a team performing to a high level. However I think we need to be cautious and patient here. I think there maybe a bit of pain initially and a lot of banter/abuse from opposition fans. Depending how n how much work is needed to get the players, culture of the club etc back on track.

For me these next 6 months are not as results focussed but seeing a change in attitude, culture, players used or dropped etc

Ultimately what I know of RR (and I was touting him a couple of years back) has me excited as I think we will be having a plan and a structure in place that we don't currently. His appointment isn't about the short term but benefits for the mid to long term.

We have done it already.

Idk what he is thinking. Our tactic is from the 80s. Speedy wingers, hoof the ball from the back and no off the ball movement.

I think people are entitled to be impatient with the board. They have a track record of making some fecking dire decisions that are often based on revenue and not football. It's a pleasant change to see them make a football decision for once but don't expect fans to be dancing in the street and singing their names just yet.
I don't expect full on praise for the board for sure
But to me it does highlight that decision making is a thought out process for once, rather than rash kneejerk decisions.

Most excited I have been about an appointment in my lifetime, was only 1 when Fergie came in and felt Jose was appointed three years too late.

McKenna reaction to Rangnick tactical knowledge : "wow very good very good, but guess who is going to stay here for 25 years? me, I am highly rated".

We certainly won't be turning into a club that buys cheap young players and sells them on for mega profits,

As soon as the selling club see that Manchester United are putting in the bid - the price will shoot up and rumours will spread which will pick up rival bids.

The likes of RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig can do this successfully because... one, they can give the players a chance as their expectations are not over the top and... two, the big clubs don't mind letting those teams buy players because they know the player will develop but they'll still be able to sign him for a decent fee, not an over inflated fee.

As a manager Ralf Rangnick does not have the best record and yes the Red Bull clubs he's been working behind the scenes at have been successful but that wasn't just down to the one man.

Personally I think we have a good squad so it shouldn't be hard to get good results out of them, just like Solskjær when he first arrived,

But in terms of him being moved upstairs at the end of the season - this isn't a small club which is looking to grow - this is a real big club, moving it forward will be a hell of a lot harder than what he's been doing at the Red Bull clubs.

So much hype about him - why is he working in Russia? was there no big clubs trying to sign him up since he left RB Leipzig?
Alan Pardew words in Russia.

As with any manager, I wish him well, I just feel a lot of the Twitterers claiming we've pulled off a master stroke should relax a little and not be too expectant.

One thing I do think though is that if Ralf Rangnick comes in as manager until the end of the season and does well / manages to get some consistency into this squad, I would like to see him stay on as manager as we've seen with Sir Alex that an older head can be successful while being wise enough to build on it.

I think he’ll be offered the job if he does well. I mean, why wouldn’t he?
